Something that stays with you, or something that you reference all the time?

Mine is Autoglass Repair Autoglass Replace. Literally, the second my windscreen got a crack this week, I knew i'd just contact them.

They're actually just called 'Autoglass' as well, but i still say the full tagine for the fun of it.

'Don't you want me baby? Don't you want me... woah woah woah woah'. Think it was car insurance or something?! The actor pops up on TV occasionally still!

Also agree with 'Julie knew her killer', all those public safety videos were so well done. I've always been terrified of open windows on trains.

ElizabethVonArnim · 26/09/2025 23:10

The one that sticks in my head was - I think - for Malibu or Lilt and the general vibe was about it being more relaxed in the Caribbean. There was someone like a management consultant training fishermen, shouting ‘Do you want this fish?’

Sparklesandspandexgallore · 26/09/2025 22:38

There was an advert about fire prevention. I still remember the jingle as the couple went around their home, checking everything was switched off before they went to be.
Get a routine, show your intention, fire prevention, fire prevention. Check and make sure you close every door. We mean, your life could depend on your bedtime routine.
It must be over 40 years old but I still remember it.

Theanswerisinthestars · 26/09/2025 22:33

I’d rather have a bowl of coco pops!

a is for Alpha
b is for Bite
c for yourself that
they taste just right

there was this beans one about a hairdresser woman complaining about her hands:

”they were like two dumpling and half a pound of chipolatas…”

Ovaltina
here you see her!
Bouncing up and down

Try saying Matessons
without saying
mmmmm

The Julie knew her killer ad has clearly stayed with many people given all the comments! I was going to say that too. A few of the Think! ads have stayed with me to be fair. There’s one where a man is going about his daily routine and a dead girl is hiding in every space (under his desk etc) because he killed her in his car. Another in a pub where the guy is having too many beers and suddenly lurches forward. They were all very effective/scary! Feel like they’ve softened now.

NSPCC used to do lots of creepy ones too - especially the ad where a man has a little girl puppet on his lap.

On a more positive note I love the Jonathan Glazer banned Flake advert. And have still never stopped saying Compare the Meerkat!

Bobbittie · 26/09/2025 22:30

I always remember the cartoon hedgehogs crossing the road, singing 'King of the Road'. And yes, I have been known to sing it to the little ones 😂

OneFootintheHedgehog · 26/09/2025 22:11

There’s juice loose about this hoose!

TeddyOatmeal · 26/09/2025 22:07

Showing my age here but every now and then this pops into my head:
whitbread big head, trophy bitter, the pint that thinks it’s a quart.

Auburngal · 26/09/2025 22:06

Scotch video tape with the skeleton “re-record not fade away”
Mr Soft - Softmints
Ferrero Rocher with the ambassadors and the platter of the FR in a pyramid. I remember watching a comedy sketch of a piss take of the advert. Someone picked a FR from the bottom of the platter. Which then made the pyramid collapse and roll the chocolates all over the floor, tripping up the waiter. Think it was French and Saunders

CesarSoubreyon · 26/09/2025 22:05

And Herbal Essences! Yes, Yes, Yes!

CesarSoubreyon · 26/09/2025 22:04

gamerchick · 26/09/2025 21:46

The advert of the 80s where they were warning us about electrical stations. Why we shouldn't climb power lines and Charley says.

The 80s adverts had staying power

I've remembered that the most effective ad for me was for Bounty. A coconut falls on a tropical beach and splits in half. The voiceover says, "Bounty, a taste of paradise".

Not only do those tropical beaches represent paradise for me, but the word Bounty actually tastes of paradise (I have synaesthesia). And I also have a pack of Bounties in my cupboard, with only one left.

A taste of TROPICAL paradise!

BlossomLeaves · 26/09/2025 21:31

Julie knew her killer was the one that sprang to mind when I saw the thread title. Can’t sit in the back seat of a car til this day without thinking of it.

BeRoseSloth · 26/09/2025 21:26

I think the “Back to Sleep” campaign has been pretty successful at reducing SIDS.

PansyPotter84 · 26/09/2025 21:25

We love "Chewier than Barrow-in-Furness Bus Depot!" from Chewits, still makes us laugh and has become a household running joke.
Benson & Hedges print ads in the 80s (when they banned overt cigarette advertising) were outstanding, particularly the pyramids one.

meganorks · 26/09/2025 21:07

The Detol ad where they try and scare the bejesus out of you when someone has touched some chicken and the proceeds to leave germy, florescent finger marks everywhere. DH takes the piss out of me every time we are cooking chicken as it honestly scares me more than anything!
