I had to go to GP earlier with ongoing bowel issues. She asked me to lay down so she could listen to my abdomen. I laid down, she pressed the stethoscope onto my stomach and I ended up involuntarily farting loudly. She actually jumped back at the sound. Absolutely mortified, I start to apologise and my stomach starts making loud squeaky noises and I end up farting again mid sentence. She remained professional throughout but I’m so embarrassed. I have to go back tomorrow and I’m dreading a) seeing her again and b) it happening again.

DH says will have forgotten all about it. Is he right or just being nice? I feel like cancelling the appointment

You are alright OP. I once projectile vomited an entire bottle of orange fizzy liquid over a doctor (face and all) while trying to get a diabetes screening test pregnant.

McGregor33 · 25/09/2025 22:32

If it makes you feel any better, my newborn was getting a hernia checked over and projectile 💩 on the drs face. Thankfully during Covid and she was wearing a mask 🙈

At least you were in a doctor’s surgery. This week I farted in a room where there was only one other work colleague and me. I tried to style it out but I was mortified.

How does one style that out? (Asking for a friend).

Are you on the wrong thread? I'm confused.
Afaik there is many homeless people in hostel accommodation without social problems, a lack of housing and extortionate rents.
I scrolled back on the thread, are your quotes from a separate thread?

Edited

Yes they have quoted me from a different thread for some bizarre reason

Had my check up at the local centre after having my second child. Complications with both births so totally used to the prodding and poking. "Let's check your stitches" she said .Took my trousers and pants off as instructed, hopped on the bed, legs spread. A pause and a slight lift of my top, "oh you were a C-section this time!". Oh yes, yes I was, sorry I was induced with tearing the first time and on auto-pilot. My sister roared with laughter about this for years. I'm sure a wee fart or two will be an everyday occurrence to tired new mums advertising their vaginas upon request 😆

Laugh it off Op.

Just don't laugh too hard lest you let rip again.

SleepyLemur · 25/09/2025 22:29

Seriously she will have dealt with far worse. Don't worry about it. You didn't do it on purpose

Mercurysinretrograde · 25/09/2025 22:27

I am quite proper about such things and certainly not an habitual public farter, but a few years ago I was in a charming bookshop filled with nice quiet people reading away, probably all raised in the 70’s when librarians shouted at you if you dared to breathe in the presence of a book. Anyway I let rip a raucously loud fart that everyone around me heard. It was unmistakable. It startled even me. It was so bad that I started shuddering with laughter and exited the shop at speed. I blame the cookery book section! Go to your appointment tomorrow and don’t give it a second thought.

I farted in the consultants face when I was sat up on the edge of the bed back arched backwards when they were lent cross the bed trying to put an epidural needle in my lower back 😳 (I blame too much gas and air!)

All he said was a muffled “don’t move” 🤣

I’m sure she’s had worse happen!

Why was it muffled? Had he covered his face?

You should educate yourself then - homeless people are homeless because they don’t engage with authorities for various reasons (trauma, mental illness, drugs etc). They’re not on the streets because people escaping persecution from other countries have taken their spaces. Ffs

As a health professional (ICU nurse) I really can not adequately explain to you how much the doctor will NOT care about this. I have seen more vulvas/penises/anuses and heard more farts and other bodily sounds than I could count in a life time. It literally doesn’t register, it’s no different than looking at a leg at this point. Please don’t be embarrassed!!

Blinky21 · 25/09/2025 22:26

The most unapologetic farter I know is a consultant gastroentorologist. Doctors are well aware of what bodies do.

I think it takes an awful lot than that to phase a typical doctor.

Faze. Agh! This thread. Why so much ‘phasing,?

TheSpiritofDarkandLonelyWater · 25/09/2025 22:25

They will have seen and heard worse all the time so try not to worry. I know it is easier said than done.

Take it back to the original thread if you want to discuss it.

She’s a Dr she knows that bodies do this. She’ll have experienced worse. As a Dr she will have been covered in all bodily fluids at some point in training/work. She’ll will have experienced much worse and funnier.

In fact when you put it like that, she should be the one who is embarrassed for choosing a job where she gets to push people's tummies to make them fart.

It's reminding me of a teddy with a squeaker.🐻

WearyAuldWumman · 25/09/2025 22:24

This kind of thing is quite common when a patient has a bowel problem. When I had to got the hospital for an investigation, I was told by medical staff that it was normal and not to worry if it happened.

bozzabollix · 25/09/2025 22:21

Doctors have seen and done it all. I wouldn’t worry.

My toilet humour loving doctor husband may have found it hard to keep a serious face though.

nomas · 25/09/2025 22:21

She has to regularly stick her finger in men’s arses to check their prostate, your little bit of gas is the least that she has to contend with.

mimi14 · 25/09/2025 22:19

I was having a tv scan once and really needed to fart. I was trying to hold it in, until the sonographer said oh we just need to wait for this trapped wind to pass because I can't see anything. I had no idea it would be seen on the scan, and had no choice but to let it go 😳

Iwasneverafan · 25/09/2025 22:16

… double post 🤷🏼‍♀️😜

Just think of the hours of endless entertainment she’ll get passing this story onto her mates on a night out 🥴😂…. Embrace it - she’ll remember the sound but not the name or the face
