To wish rape cases in Court were taken as seriously as this Epping sex offender?

I am sure this will be an unpopular opinion but here goes.
This guy has put his hand on a 14 yo and grown woman's leg/thigh and said he wants babies with them, told one they'd make a good wife asked two teens to kiss in public.

Don't get me wrong, creepy perv and sexually deviant with a minor yes. I'm not suggesting he should get asylum or not have been arrested.

I am shocked this is being suggested as the most important sex offender crime the Courts have had to see this year. All the coverage! We have so many men who rape and abuse for years and victims don't see a court room for years. How has public opinion pushed this relatively minor incident to the fore? Why do the men draped in flags setting fire to things and peeing all over monuments not care about the low rape convictions, for example?

I'm so confused about this. Do men actually now care about rape and sexual assault or is it because of the way this one looks? The BBC is going in heavy with only a few references to what he actually did. Frankly, and this may say more about my local, I used to get older men doing this to me and my friends as a teen all through the 90's. It was grim but I doubt I'd have got far if I had reported it as sexual assault.

It would be nice if they just deported him and refused his application for asylum on the grounds you don’t come to Britain illegally to sexually abuse children then get to stay there.

Sure. It would be even better if everyone protesting would look at the majority of abuse, femicide and rape of women in this country and caused a riot about the lack of police care, length of wait for a Court appearance, the abuse of counselling transcripts by accused - actual violence and abuse against women, the victims.

Men are taking crimes against women and using them to push their political beliefs rather than help women.

Have you been living under a stone? I’m guessing you didn’t watch the news when there were protests all over the place after Sarah Everard?

It certainly didn't go on for months though did it, or have 150k people turn up using it as a political football

Do you think we should let sex abusers come and live in the uk? Asylum is not a right its a privilege. Sexual abuse should be a long prison sentence for all rapists. Not just a tiny minority..

@FirstCuppa "Even Wayne Cousins didn't get people protesting all over the country in so many locations and for so long."

There were many protests and vigils. The Princess of Wales even attended the one on Clapham Common. And if I recall correctly women were being dragged away and having their heads bashed into trees by the Met Police - the very institution that murdered Sarah. You are right OP, the country isn't safe for women. That's why we don't need to import any more men - most of whom have no background checks or forms of identification.

Yes for MURDER and RAPE
My point is even that is the only other case in memory where people came onto the streets.

See my previous post - if you counted all of the news stories about this and the linked riots, add up the spends on policing... No other sex offender in memory has cost the UK so much. Even Wayne Cousins didn't get people protesting all over the country in so many locations and for so long.

Sadly we are stuck with homegrown abusers but we do not have to let additional ones live here if we don't want to. The man that you mention did not have to be here. His victims did not have to be his victims. It is entirely our decision as a country what level of additional sexual assault we are willing to tolerate. Currently the answer to that seems to be quite a lot, especially if its mainly confined to poorer people in poorer areas.

It would be nice to see the same men protesting vow not be part of the statistics that beat their wives when their football team loses, for example. Maybe joining some femicide awareness campaigns.

Something more tangible than "we have the right to be the prime sex and violent offenders in our own country". Something that might actually lower rates of abuse against women, rather than focusing it on immigration.

We certainly don't need to import perverts and sex offenders but it will be interesting to see whether the Court deems it unsafe to deport him under the ECHR. I don't want to see the UK withdraw from the ECHR, I think that would be a dangerous move, but it isn't currently being applied as it was originally intended. It is far too frequently protecting criminals rather than victims. And as you rightly say OP, those victims are more often than not women.

I am shocked this is being suggested as the most important sex offender crime the Courts have had to see this year

Please can you link to a credible source that suggests this?

Also, what does the 90s have to do with anything?

Are you suggesting we should go back to ignoring sex crimes in the ‘Men will be men’ sort of way that was common in the past?

"I'm so confused by this"

I don't think you are, OP. I think you know exactly how you feel but thought you'd start yet another thread on this subject.

I haven't seen another thread?
I'm annoyed but also actually confused. We hear all the time how Courts take years for rape victims, how unsupported they are and how costly and damaging it is. Yet this has had news coverage and protests and likely millions thrown at it.

Unfortunately we can’t ship the homegrown rapists anywhere but we can send back rapists from another country that commit the crime here.

Obviously I can’t speak for every man but the ones I know care about rape and sexual assault regardless of how the perpetrator looks.

Be glad things have changed since the 90’s and teenagers don’t have to put up with the behaviour that you did from men. I doubt the woman he approached felt it was a minor incident either, luckily the CPS don’t agree with you as well or he’d be able to do this to other women.

GlowWorm13 · 23/09/2025 10:35

A very disingenuous thread, OP, full of faux eyed innocence.
