I wonder what will be the threshold will be for his supporters to stop listening to him?

The military? When he says the sun is blue?

My thoughts for what they are worth ,on why the rates of autism have increased
Is the widening of the criteria of autism to include Asperger's.
Perhaps Autism should mean people who are non verbal or limited communication skills needing a lot of looking after ect .
Since widening the criteria to include Asperger's,you have a huge umbrella under which many many people all completely different in ability are having the same diagnosis.
With the same autism diagnosis you have people in full time work ,and having families and a mortgage..and also people who need 24 hour care .
You have the diagnostic criteria changing to widen it's criteria of autism, and assessors now are much better at including women and girls and spotting how they present differently.
I doubt very much rates of high needs support people with autism have increased outside the lines of any population growth..but I could be wrong .
I get the use of the word aspergers was offensive to some people, but I think we do need a verbal distinction between high support needs autism and able to function in society autism .
Once that is in place I believe it will be obvious there is no rise in the rates of autism.
I say this as a woman diagnosed with autism age 50 ,and two of my children also diagnosed with autism..
My eldest son has very high support needs autism, and will never live independently..I have to be his carer ,which feels weird as I have the same diagnosis.my youngest son sits somewhere in the middle of us needs wise .
Yet we have the same diagnosis..I'm not diminishing my struggles at all ..believe me ,every step of my life has been fraught with difficulty and miscommunication..
but I've never smeared poo everywhere,or weed all over the house ,or smashed things up or been incredibly violent or not been ble to be left alone with other children incase I attack them ,as my high support needs son has ..
The use of the word autism to now cover such a huge umbrella of need ,has made it incredibly difficult to try to explain to people just how effected my eldest son is by his autism..it has ..in my opinion, made the general public think autism is less of a disability than it is , because of the huge catch all..
And I think it's doing a huge disservice to the people who need long term care for their autism

You specifically said "the studies used shots with adjuvants in them or against other vaccines, not saline. It would be good to see those results surely? If they show nothing, then that's great."
I am saying those studies have already been done.
I am also expressing surprise that you think no one else would have thought to do that already.

The rise of 400% in autism DIAGNOSIS is due to increasing sensitivity of diagnostic methods.

The studies done to prove safety so far have used injections with adjuvants, or other vaccinations, as the 'placebo'. True inert placebo studies for any of the vaccines on the childhood schedule have never been done. Crazy isn't it? They've gotten away with so much and trained everyone to be aggressive towards those of us who value true science so we would shut up.

This isn't my solution, I present no solution. I am welcoming testing and scientific research on toxins, including vaccinations, that has been announced today. RFK Jr is saying this should have been done 25 years ago and I agree.

I am curious as to the causes of the 400% rise in autism and keen read the studies when they come out. The answers to your questions will be in the testing methods outlined in the studies they do. I guess those who are angry this is being looked into can ignore the studies and keep doing things the way they have been done. That's ok too.

How exactly can Trump and JFK state that the rate of autism in Cuba is lower, when there has been no records collected of autism in Cuba, ever?

Surely it would be as simple as asking them to offer the autism rate in Cuba and a source?

SpidersAreShitheads · 23/09/2025 03:07

The autistic community are STILL having to deal with the fallout from the Wakefield charlatan. The lies he told have caused long-lasting damage and led to a drop in vaccinations.

And now we have this utter horseshit. I’m torn between just wanting to cry and raging.

People will believe him. Just look at comments on this thread already.

Individuals who clearly have NO idea about the extensive research that has been done and continues to be ongoing are suggesting this is good because someone will finally discover the cause.

No they fucking won’t.

Trump and RFK Jr have absolutely zero interest in clinical research. Trump wants the Nobel Peace Prize and to be credited with finding the cure because he’s driven by his ego and cares nothing for the truth. RFK Jr shouldn’t be have any responsibility for health due to his batshit conspiracy type theories.

What they have said today will potentially lead to babies either dying or being born with severe disabilities - the risk of fever during pregnancy is significant if not treated.

Nothing they have said is evidence-based. Nothing they will do will drive further research.

It’s soul-destroying to see people falling for this.

Sincerely, an autistic woman born in the 1970s when apparently none of us existed, who also took no paracetamol during pregnancy but somehow produced twins who are both also autistic, one with severe learning disabilities. Must be a miracle, right?!

Angryhag · 22/09/2025 22:17

The cause of autism is complex genetic. I have an autistic (adult) child and I didn’t touch any paracetamol or ibuprofen or indeed any drug at all during pregnancy.

Me to
Can't tolerate it ,so never use it .how has he come up with this ,what research have they done ..there must be studies ..or ...not ..I don't know you can't just go around making things up

Have you seen any evidence that they're about to launch any properly controlled, deep dive studies?

I mean, surely with all these anti-vax parents out there, they could have decided to recruit volunteers and spend a couple years compiling some real statistics and doing actual research instead of just randomly firing all the medical experts and changing the childhood vaccine schedule and blaming a common medication?

The evidence presented in the lawsuits the manufacturer of Tylenol is surely about to launch is going to be pretty interesting.

Edited

Yes, it will be very interesting to see the results of the studies and also the see the outcomes of the court cases. The more information released to the public and studies done, the better. Knowledge is power, I welcome the information, whatever conclusions are drawn.

What Are the Causes of Autism?
Experts don’t fully understand all of the causes of autism spectrum disorder. It seems to be genetic, but things such as parental age and prescription medications taken during pregnancy may be involved.
For instance:

  • A person is more likely to be on the spectrum if a brother, sister, or parent is. But it doesn’t always run in families.
  • About 10% of kids with ASD have a form of genetic disorder such as Down syndrome and fragile X syndrome.
  • A large Danish study found a link between ASD and the advanced parental age of either parent.
  • Women prescribed opioids just before pregnancy are likelier to have a child with ASD.

Do you seriously think this has not been considered?
1 You would have to give half the kids non-vaccines. So you want to risk them getting eg measles or diptheria. That's your solution. Let half the kids get measles and let's see how that works out.
2 What makes you think these studies haven't been done in analogs? eg mice have been tested for effects of the adjuvants.

This isn't my solution, I present no solution. I am welcoming testing and scientific research on toxins, including vaccinations, that has been announced today. RFK Jr is saying this should have been done 25 years ago and I agree.

Why Is There a Rise in Autism Cases?
Autism used to be considered a rare condition, but the CDC states that about 1 in every 31 children have autism spectrum disorder. ASD cases have continued to rise each year.
The rise may be because doctors have better screening tools and awareness of the condition. Some experts think it also has to do with many different genetic and environmental factors. Research to understand what causes ASD and why it’s on the rise continues.

School, Jobs, and Autism
Studies have found that young adults with ASD are most likely to choose a STEMM (science, technology, engineering, math, and medicine) major over others. They’re also more likely to choose these majors compared to people without ASD or those with a different disability.
Children with ASD and average IQ levels also tend to have better math skills than kids without ASD in the same IQ range. Experts think this is because people with ASD have special organizational patterns and skills that tend to make them great at problem-solving.

I do think that efforts should be made to understand the cause of autism rather than just accepting that increasing numbers of people have neurodevelopmental problems and doing little to about. Where would it leave us long term if half the population were unable to work or function without support? However, coming up with unproven theories and blaming women for what they did or didn't do during pregnancy like its the 1950s is not helpful.

The thing is that the studies seem to conclude that the increasing numbers are due in large part to diagnostic changes. The John's Hopkins summary says this, below, which implies that the group that is unable to work or function without support is not increasing.

Changes in the diagnostic criteria and increased screening at wellness visits seem to be the main contributors. There have been a few studies over the past two years that have looked at a specific subgroup of individuals on the spectrum who frequently need 24-hour-a-day support and care from a caregiver, often have very limited verbal communication skills, or have intellectual disability that co-occurs with autism.
The data has shown that rates of autism for that subgroup have increased minimally, if at all, over the past nearly 10 years.
Rates have increased the most for individuals who are not in that subgroup, who may have more subtle phenotypes and fewer significant co-occurring conditions. We think this is most likely due to our ability to identify these subtle traits and symptoms better.

Sorry, but we have no use for your facts.

In fact, they probably cause autism and should be banned. Weak correlation and foolish conjecture will save us.

Kennedy, a couple weeks ago:

Speaking at an event in Texas alongside the state’s governor, Greg Abbott, Kennedy claimed: “I’m looking at kids as I walk through the airports today, as I walk down the street, and I see these kids that are just overburdened with mitochondrial challenges, with inflammation. You can tell from their faces, from their body movements, and from their lack of social connection. And I know that that’s not how our children are supposed to look.”

This is another study. Started back in 1982.
"A population-based cohort of children born in Sweden 1982 through 2006, with follow-up for ASD through December 31, 2009, were included. "

Large number of people involved.
"The study included 37 570 twin pairs, 2 642 064 full sibling pairs, and 432 281 maternal and 445 531 paternal half-sibling pairs. Of these, 14 516 children were diagnosed with ASD."

"Because ASD is rare, estimates of heritability rely on few families with more than 1 affected child, and, coupled with the time trends in ASD prevalence, the heritability estimates are sensitive to the choice of methods.
...
However, in both analyses, the heritability of ASD was high and the risk of ASD increased with increasing genetic relatedness."

I have found it curious that the Trump administration is referring to a specific brand name (Tylenol), not the American generic name (Acetaminophen).

Has Johnson & Johnson done something to piss Trump off? Maybe they’ve not raised their overseas drugs prices enough for him?

Cos Donny can’t say acetamenophen, I’d imagine.

I'll probably cop a lot of abuse on here.....but, if there are several causes for autism, and RFK Jr is going to do a deep dive and find out possible causes (environmental, pharmaceutical, etc), why wouldn't you want to know? At the moment, there are no true placebo studies that show the side effects of the childhood vaccine schedule - the studies used shots with adjuvants in them or against other vaccines, not saline. It would be good to see those results surely? If they show nothing, then that's great. Then they could test some other things and find out what's happening. Bracing to get smashed for even suggesting anything so sensible 😂

The rabid anti-vxr is a qualified attorney who has spent decades fighting on the behalf of families who have been gaslit. He happens not to be anti-vaccine in principle however he wants them to be safely administered and tested out in the first instance.

Or he's a self-serving grifter

An Irish politician Michael Healy Rae brought this subject up the other day. He’s calling for investigations into the sheer amount of kids being diagnosed in recent years.

I have no idea, our class sizes were 30 kids in each year, right from Junior Infants in primary to the last year in secondary. Nobody appeared to struggle or did poorly in exams. This was the 80’s and 90’s. Now it’s everywhere, my son’s school has another school attached for SEN kids and we are in a tiny rural village.

I would love to understand more. Like I said there was nobody looking back through all my friends, siblings friends,
classes, housing estate that you could look back and be confident they were probably autistic. Zero.

The spectrum of ‘autism’ is wide. In my country, most cases fall within the bucket of what we call ‘ASD’ - ‘autism spectrum disorder’. Some go to schools for their particular needs, others only require some extra assistance at mainstream schools. It’s just that parents are more proactive at having children diagnosed, and doctors are more skilled at diagnosing.

As an aside, does anyone remember Askit powders and others like it in the 70s and 80s? My mother used to eat those, even in pregnancy. They’re banned now. (Those were a bit dodgy, though.)
