No payment for her 3 naans

We all got a curry, to cut a long story short(er).

4 friends in total, including me. Person who hasn’t paid is new to group. All happened last week.

I paid for the takeaway and said it’s fine, just everyone transfer me the money tomorrow when they get a chance.

We were going to share but this particular friend wanted her own. All fine. We still agreed to all go 4 ways, despite her not getting anything to share out, and ordering 3 naans!

Today is Monday and the meal took place last Friday. Still no payment. I reminded her on Saturday and she said she was so sorry, send bank details and she’d send it. So I did.

Still nothing. I messaged again this evening and she left me on read. Messaged friend whose friend she originally was… who said she’s now on holiday! I don’t even remember her mentioning that

We are suppose to be going for an 80s night next month. AIBU not to go if she goes? Told other friend and she said she probably just keeps forgetting

I wouldn’t mind but she asked to take the left over coke bottle and the last of the butter chicken. We all said yes because we were stuffed

Cheeky woman has an amazing figure to boot, so maybe I’m just jealous!

Sorry… whut?

it’s been 3 days… I would chill. She should’ve sent it ofc but I’m sure it’s not that much money? Life is short.

You’re a cheeky fucker if you think it’s ok to leave a friend waiting days to be repaid THEIR MONEY. It’s irrelevant how much it is.

They might get away with that sort of behaviour in their twenties but carry on like that and people will start to mention it to their friends and then the CF will gain a bad reputation, others will slowly shun them and she’ll eventually find herself friendless and a social pariah.

grlwhowrites · 23/09/2025 08:49

I voted YBU to not go to an event just bc she might be there. Don’t miss out on things just bc of her presence! She’s more likely to feel awkward about you going if she hasn’t coughed up the dough (lol) by then.

I also agree with previous posters who said to put a message in the group chat. I’d add your bank details and put “here you go, Naan Girl. Only waiting on your share now”.

Also don’t pay for anything of hers in the future.

SunshineAndFizz · 22/09/2025 19:53

She ate 3 naans to herself?

Three naans Pam forever.

scaredfriend · 23/09/2025 08:47

Definitely call her out in the group chat:

”Thanks @ Mary and @ Jane for pinging the money across for Friday 🍛! @ 3Naans - you still owe me £25 - here are my bank details again. Ta’”

Lovely assumption, but no - no I don’t.
I remember going out with friends for a birthday hike and my phone battery died so I had no way of paying (I rely on my phone to pay) a friend covered my lunch but as soon as I got home they text me asking for the money. It gave me the ick, esp considering it was my birthday. I had no intention of not paying but it was how immediate it was.

It’s just not how I treat my friends. In fact, I’ve covered things for my friends before and I would just say get it back for me in another way, like maybe get the coffee or the meal next time.

If a week has passed and she hasn’t paid back, I would be reminding them and would feel the way OP is, but not after 3 days…

You do understand that some people might actually really need that money.
That every pound they earn is accounted for and required for bills or food. And if that person doesn’t pay it back then they might be really struggling.

BallerinaRadio · 23/09/2025 08:45

ConnieHeart · 23/09/2025 08:37

Obviously, she had curry & rice too

But the post itself says no payment for 3 naans. I'm assuming like you that she did but the OP isn't very clear and why would they say no payment for 3 naans and not no payment for takeaway meal?

I've tried rereading it but it still isn't overly clear

ByQuaintAzureWasp · 23/09/2025 08:41

How much were you asking her to pay, when her costs were £28?

Flakey99 · 23/09/2025 08:40

GimmieABreakOr3 · 22/09/2025 20:12

So it’s only been 3 days?

You think it’s ok to leave people waiting days to repay them the money you owe them?

@TheAquaCrab I’d be making sure that all the other group members know what a massive cheeky fucker she is and I’d be hassling her daily until she repays you. Then refuse to include her in any future outings.

ByQuaintAzureWasp · 23/09/2025 08:38

I suspect she's a bit peed off at having a 4 way split when she only ordered naan breads.

ConnieHeart · 23/09/2025 08:37

Finteq · 22/09/2025 21:26

3 plain naan was £28

That's expensive

Mumstheword1983 · 23/09/2025 08:35

Had a similar situation. Friends birthday. All had numerous drinks at a bar. Group left early as taxi turned up pronto and unexpected . I and another friend were left with the bill as we didn't get in taxi. Came to £150 for 6 of us so we paid £75 each (I only had 2 wines personally). Sent a WhatsApp the next day asking for the rest to contribute. They were mortified that they forgot to pay the bill but one friend needed a few reminders and took 10 days to pay. I think some people genuinely do intend on paying but just aren't very organised. Good luck OP. Send another reminder!

MrsPositivity1 · 23/09/2025 08:34

Can you send a payment link from your bank? I know you can do it with some online banks.

Izzywizzy85 · 23/09/2025 08:27

Go to the 80s night! Perfect chance to get your money back
”Stacey didn’t pay me for hers last time so it’s her shout tonight, she will cover mine.”

TheArtfulNavyDreamer · 23/09/2025 08:26

Just chase her again. She might have genuinely forgotten with going on holiday but she can transfer from wherever she is so just ask her. Why would you miss a night out with your friends over it. Alternatively it does sound like she’s overpaying for what she had so maybe she’s pissed off about it now and felt obliged to go along with a 4 way split? Chase her and if she doesn’t pay again ask her what’s going on.

AleynEivlys · 23/09/2025 08:24

Charredtea · 22/09/2025 19:57

Doh, I was going through the thread so I could post this but as soon as I saw there was a link, I knew. 🙁

MyDeftDuck · 23/09/2025 08:01

Definitely ask her again for the money on the group chat, everyone else has paid up so why shouldn’t she? It’s not rocket science to access online banking and transfer payment from one to another FFS…….they could all have done it on the night.
This sort of avoidance really pisses me off, rather like those who are selective in offering a lift to others but will happily take up a seat in anyone else’s car!
In future, refuse to bankroll anyone by paying upfront for all the food so you won’t get caught out like this again.
If the new person needed to wait until payday to be able to afford the food she shouldn’t have been ordering anything, you wouldn’t go to the chippy, order fish & chips and then say “I’ll pay you at the weekend when I get my wages” would you?

3 Naan girl has entered the chat.

Brilliant, nearly spat my coffee out 😂

Cantbleedingcope · 23/09/2025 07:58

I hate when people just ‘forget’ to transfer the money - they aren’t forgetting - they are hoping you just give up or don’t ask.

Id bring it up on the 80s night and just tell her you need it transferring

I had this with a very close friend of mine - nice restaurant, expensive, paid the bill on my card and she never transferred her half. I didn’t chase it because I do earn a lot more than her, but it’s still annoying - she chose the restaurant too so she knew how expensive it was

beAsensible1 · 23/09/2025 07:58

Why would you not go if she goes? It’s the perfect opportunity to ask her to send it you while shes there? Odd logic

BallerinaRadio · 23/09/2025 07:53

TheAquaCrab · 22/09/2025 21:02

Total was roughly £28 for hers alone

I take it this is the full amount and not just the naan breads. Does she owe you the full £28 or just the naan breads it's a bit unclear

GimmieABreakOr3 · 23/09/2025 07:42

Theextraordinaryisintheordinary · 23/09/2025 07:40

Cheeky monkey.

I’d defo go to the 80s night and while you’re there tell her she can just buy you a few drinks if it’s easier than transferring the cash she owes you. Tell her it’s embarrassing asking her again but you’re skint and it was 2 naans too far.

Thank you!

So you're a CF. Got it

What the hell is a CF? This thread is a joke.

Wkanznjs · 23/09/2025 07:36

I’d message her again. Being on holiday is no barrier to making a payment in 2025.

She sounds like a cheeky fucker.

I would not pay costs for the group again. Just say that you had difficulty getting reimbursed so you won’t be doing it.

chaosmaker · 23/09/2025 07:36

@TheAquaCrab not read all but you should go just so you can get the cash back!
