I've been constipated for 20 days now!
I've been taking senokot for the last 12 days and Movacol twice daily for a week.
I even tried glycerine suppositories over the weekend.
Nothing!
What else can I do?
It's really uncomfortable and I have a pain in my side.
Aibu to this one of these should have worked?

Eat a whole bag of sugar free sweets.
My friend swears by it.

This!!! I accidentally found this out! Sugar free Haribo gummy bears or the Aldi little foam fruit flavour gummies. Shitting through the eye of a needle for 24 hours!

Best wishes to you in hospital, OP, if you get a chance to read this. Flowers

Hi! I'd ring docs and ask for a telephone appt for lactulose; a medication to help with constipation. Google it, totally harmless and my savior during pregnancy and post partem!

caringcarer · 24/09/2025 00:40

Sugar free Werther's. They have sorbital in them in place of sugar and it goes through you fast. Eat 4 or 5 to start with. I have 2 a day and they keep me regular.

Enigma54 · 24/09/2025 00:25

How are you getting on, OP? x

sweeneytoddsrazor · 23/09/2025 23:23

I find these work really well

Constipation- nothing works!

Leave all the medications alone for a week and try the old methods. Personally tinned pear is known as the bomb in my house. I have had a lot of surgery over the last few years (16+ operations) and it blocks you up afterwards. The only thing that works is one whole tin of pear per day. It doesn't cause pain either. It just works gently. Add lots of water to your diet too.

Dismimpaction with picosulfate or movicol

Poppyseed14 · 23/09/2025 22:57

Please update us OP when the matter has been resolved. 💐

Sugar free sweets. Diet ask me how I know this.

Also syrup of figs.

Swear by both - better than dynamite!

Zippidydoodah · 23/09/2025 22:53

I’m so glad you went in, @Boxingshibes . Wishing you all the best 💐

Lactulose!!! A shot an hour until the inevitable I promise you it will work!

Brainstorm23 · 23/09/2025 22:34

OP is in A&E so won't be drinking any prune juice.

CheeseyOnionPie · 23/09/2025 22:21

I saw something online about 200ml of prune juice + 4 tablespoons of butter, heat it up in the microwave and drink it.

Please report back!

ChrisTheBastard · 23/09/2025 22:17

Prune Juice. Dont have too much though as its quite effective. I didnt read the label and downed a pint of it. Didnt taste very nice but by crikey it worked. It worked too damn well as I was up until 3am because I dared not go to bed.

If it's been 20 days, suggest you download a good film on your ohine ot take a good book to the toilet. And a wooden spoon. You'll need the handle to bite on as you attempt to pass an absolute snozzcumber.

Chinsupmeloves · 23/09/2025 22:13

Good old Andrews is brilliant.

PlaceIntheClouds · 23/09/2025 22:13

California sunsweet prune juice. Drink a litre of that and you will be shitting like nobodies business.

Ohmygodthepain · 23/09/2025 22:06
