Charlie Kirks wife forgives the killer

To people who said her husband was hateful and what they preached was hateful, she just forgave the killer, as God would. Powerful speech.

The messed up young man who thought shooting man he didn't like was the answer, will go to prison and no longer be with his boyfriend. Erika Kirk no longer has her husband and her children have list their father.

I said there was plenty we can do to lower gun deaths in the US? The big problem is unlicensed guns, so confiscating these as well as stop and frisk will go a long way to reducing this problem. There is no need to be so absolutist

What's an acceptable number of annual gun deaths to you? If that 40k figure was brought down to 10k, would you deem that as an acceptable figure?

Studies don't back up your opinion. But they back up mine.

Show your work. Because American studies have long shown that poverty has only a limited effect on criminal behavior

How many gun deaths per year would it need before you would accept there is a gun problem in the US (currently 40k)? Or is any amount of deaths acceptable provided gun control doesn't infringe on your second amendment rights?

Actually, it doesn’t. It’s just cope because you don’t want to deal with the actual problem.

Poor Hispanics deal with many of the same ‘socioeconomic’ factors that black people face. And yet, they do not commit crime at nearly the same rates. We should have this conversation and not just dismiss it with ‘socioeconomic factors’ which is hand wavey bullshit.

Studies don't back up your opinion. But they back up mine.

RingoJuice · 23/09/2025 05:28

You don’t need to. Gun licensing works, stop and frisk works. Maximalists on both sides are unpopular, and there’s a lot we can do without getting demoralized over it.

@5128gapthat wasn’t my impression at all. Can you include the quotes you refer to?

I'm referring to his behaviour and the level of courtesy I observed in his attitude and tone. Which in my opinion fell well short of the level of respect I'd expect from a man claiming Christian values and polite open debate. You may of course apply different standards.
The first young woman, the Asian woman, asked him why he wouldn't debate a certain individual. His response was to sneer at her and say "I've travelled all the way here for you to ask me that?" In a rude and belittling manner.

FuckRealityBringMeABook · 23/09/2025 08:11

I have read parts of the Bible. Got a bit bogged down in Numbers I will admit. Jesus`s message of love and tolerance is great, I can get on board with that. But that is a separate entity from the belief system that CK was part of. I maintain it is toxic to expect and praise instaforgiveness in such terrible circumstances. Forgiveness is an action not a word, and it is a long hard path.

But it is now clear that the radicalised leftists are the party of murder and the dangerous side of the equation. Centrist and right wing people are generally amenable to discussion.

Entirely wrong. Right-wing extremist killings outpace the left consistently and by a wide margin.

The way they categorize those murders are illogical. IIRC they place Islamic terror attacks as ‘right wing’ murders. They shouldn’t be included at all in such a study, it’s a completely different thing. Many other strange examples. So yeah, they lie with statistics.

Careful now, we don’t want any facts here 😄

No indeed he did not do those things. Had he done so, I'd have described that rather than the completely different behaviour I observed and described in my post, obviously. So that's a silly question, isn't it?
You can assume what you please, or you, and indeed anyone else who is interested may simply Google his name and Cambridge debate and can watch it yourselves. Simply quoting words does not fully demonstrate his lack of courtesy. I'm sure you understand that anger and dismissal of others can be observed in tone, expression and stance?

AzurePanda · 23/09/2025 08:07

@FuckRealityBringMeABook have you ever read the Bible?

A belief system that expects a woman who has just lost her husband violently to publicly forgive the killer within days is a belief system that is entirely toxic. There is no way psychologically she can be at the point she is saying she is.

I think it goes without saying that murdering someone for their opinion is never ever justified and should never ever happen. But let's not also pretend that hate can't be insidious and quiet. Just because he packaged it up nicely doesn't make his views any less harmful and hate filled.

Honestly, this made me laugh. This thread is actually about forgiveness (apparently) and non violence. If the hypocrisy of non violence and state supported execution doesn't strike you as odd, then I bring you state sponsored armed guards on the (democratic states voting) streets. I bring you masked ICE agents abducting ethnic minorities and imprisoning them.

Honestly, I don't even believe you are deluded, I think it's worse, you have your own agenda.

I didn’t really agree with Kirk’s widow forgiving the killer when he’s shown zero remorse but it’s not up to me to tell her how to grieve.

But a line is crossed if she tries to interfere with public justice.

Not sure what this has to do with ICE—to
me, they haven’t deported enough people. We have 10 million illegal immigrants in the US (at least) and we are tired of it. This is why we voted for Trump.

I would hope ‘forgiveness’ doesn’t mean letting him escape consequences. What is the point of such forgiveness? He hasn’t repented and he probably never will.

It this sort of softness that makes Christianity really unappealing to me.

Rest assured, it won't. You'll find that the ambiguity of the Bible and the convenience of being able to slip between the draconian old testament and the the letters of St Paul allow an argument to be made that pretty much any atrocity against another human being can be justified as God's will.

RingoJuice · 23/09/2025 07:02

TankFlyBossW4lk · 23/09/2025 06:31

Yeah, bet it won't be.

Excuse me, but I don't think people were saying that at all. Almost everyone seems to agree that Kirk was a courteous, supposedly open person. And people who are religious would probably agree that he spoke often of love. But there were certainly very marked aspects of his beliefs that were anti-black, anti-women, etc.

I've watched the Cambridge debate. Unfortunately I don't even consider him courteous. He treated the first (Asian woman in religious clothing as it happened) with contempt and could barely contain his rage when bettered by young people with superior intellectual ability and knowledge to himself. He threw his dummy out of the pram after being confronted with the confidence of young people with facts at hand and debating skilks that bettered his own, then rounded off with insults to the students and to the UK. He came across as an arrogant and very angry young man. I was surprised at his reputation for being polite and open to challenge and felt it undeserved.
