Starmer’s support for Palestine

Steph888 · 21/09/2025 15:39

Am I alone in seeing this as one of the darkest days in UK history?

Never before did I think I’d end up living under a government who reward terrorism.

Starmer and Labour are grotesque. History will not be kind to them. They have now empowered all terrorists and their supporters.

We deserve such better than this reprehensible government. They disgust me.

Don't worry OP, it's just a token gesture from Starmer. Nothing will change. Between us and the US we're still providing Israel with enough military assistance to ensure that the Palestinians (children included) will all be dead soon. If the bombing and famine doesn't get them, the 'settlers' in the West Bank will. You can sleep safe in your bed.

But it has been comprehensively debunked and yet people state it as of fact every single time there is one of these threads.

@ThegreyhoundI’d be interested if you can answer @Beachtasticpost on this

It's not tiny. And I haven't tarred a nation, what on earth.

I think a lot of people don't realise how much Hamas loves its own people dead. I don't know how much clearer they can make it but there it is. I'd be releasing the hostages.

I was referring to the racist British minority that you said were posting on mumsnet just after Oct 7th.. Your post stated 'there's an exception when it comes to Israeli children'. As if British people did not care about the deaths of Israeli children.
Your statement was tarring a nation with being racist.

Racists in Britain that would happily see the death of children are a vanishingly small minority.

I stand by what I said.

Can you explain how the story arose in the first place?

Butchyrestingface · 23/09/2025 08:13

Not alone, but probably in a minority, even on this thread.

Free Palestine and the hostages.

PotholesAnonymous · 23/09/2025 08:01

There'll always be a tiny racist minority.

A tiny minority though and they get swiftly dealt with.

You can't tar a whole nation with the words and actions of a few.

Stompythedinosaur · 23/09/2025 08:09

The actions of Hamas against Israel were horrifying, but don't forget a second justify genocide.

Ultimately, Israel are the aggressors and are openly committing crimes against humanity, and we have to respond to that.

PotholesAnonymous · 23/09/2025 08:01

ThatCyanCat · 23/09/2025 07:11

Well, there's something of an exception when it comes to Israeli children. I remember being on here while October 7 was still ongoing, Israel hadn't begun any response yet because people including children were still being shot, burned and abducted and there were plenty of "Israel should pay" comments, plus a number of full on antisemitic ones and while the posts were deleted, the posters weren't suspended or banned. I think we're still waiting for many global women's organisations to say something about the mass rapes as well.

Even with reform voters!
Everyone has a limit and slaughtering children Is usually it.

Highly unlikely. Unsurprisingly, starving innocent children doesn't play well with the UK electorate.

Ultimately, this is going to drive more people to vote Reform. Starmer has suicidally bad political instincts.

Ellen2shoes · 22/09/2025 22:56

The constant referral to Hamas as being culpable for this genocide has been exploited ad Infinitum. The human shield argument which shifts responsibility from colonial occupier to those it seeks to ethnically cleanse has been cited and comprehensively covered in another thread re genocide on mumsnet so please let’s stay with the thread.

The global community has decided overwhelmingly that Palestine should be recognised. It is not a dark day for us who write on here. These are darkest days for those being bombed in their tents while they are being starved. By the Israeli government. The world sees this but needs to do more and fast.

CanSeeClearlyNowTheRainHasGone · 22/09/2025 08:59

Wow. You're jumping through a lot of hoops here to avoid tackling the question of Hamas culpability in the deaths of Gazans.

You can only see the failures of Israel.
You blame only them for a genocide.
You blame only them for Israeli hostages dying.

If Hamas laid down their weapons and surrendered the hostages a year ago, do you think you would be seeing this devastation?

If Hamas had clear lines of separation between the military and civilian spaces do you think Israel would just be destroying civilian areas anyway?

You duck these considerations, which is whyi say you obviously have an agenda.

Excuse me, agenda? What agenda is that exactly?

Thegreyhound · 22/09/2025 22:31

EasternStandard · 22/09/2025 08:42

My suggestion is a lot less offensive than the fighting that killed 3,600 and wounded 30,000 people.

Even their own countrymen/women in Ireland didn't support them.

Barrister and media personality Joe Brolly recently set social media alight with some comments taken from a longer interview. Brolly asserted that the Northern Ireland Troubles saw the emergence of a southern orthodoxy whereby "nationalists in the north were to blame".

He was then joined by one-time MP and long-time rights activist Bernadette McAliskey, who argued that "the northern Catholic was and still is looked on by the southern state as not worth the trouble". The words aroused a strong sense of approval among a considerable demographic within the north; many of whom feel that southern Irish society did indeed 'fail' them.

Nonetheless, it is clear that a considerable majority of southerners were critical of the PIRA and wider republican violence and it is this, rather than blanket rejection, which forms the feeling of historical alienation among a certain northern cohort. As with most northern Catholics, the southern Irish could see the logic of the civil rights movement as a response to the situation faced by the minority there. But they could not see the proportion or moral justification in endlessly bombing and shooting British soldiers, and more especially policemen, civil servants, and members of the public.

Going even further back in history an often forgotten fact about the Battle of the Boyne in 1690 was that the Pope of the day supported the Protestant King William of Orange against the supporters of the deposed Catholic King James II of England.
This unusual alliance came about because the Papacy, then a world power, was at odds with King Louis XIV of France, who was an ally of King James.
It is said that a Mass of deliverance was celebrated in Rome after King William's victory.

This is just a load of random facts you know, it’s not addressing what I said or the point you were previously making at all.

and now Macron!!

People are waking up at last

Beachtastic · 22/09/2025 21:24

I've given up on these threads, it's just too depressing.

Each side thinks "You either get it or you don't" and no one will budge, ever, so what's the point?

The same old arguments round and round in circles, but I get particularly fed up with "ah but the 40 beheaded babies was debunked, ya" and "How dare the Jews of all people repeat the Holocaust in Gaza and then pretend to be human."

Conflicts, maybe especially Middle Eastern conflicts, are hard to make sense of at the best of times, but the way some people make sense of this one takes my breath away at times.

gingerelephant · 22/09/2025 20:33

So now the U.K. has recognised Palestine it needs to ensure it upholds the law ie the authorities within the state work to free the hostages, to condemn the terror in the newly recognised state

Many people in Israel literally believe that Palestinian children are guilty and deserve everything they’ve suffered. For example :

And from politicians:
“The children in Gaza brought it upon themselves,' said Israeli Member of the Knesset Merav Ben-Ari during a debate about protecting civilians in the Gaza Strip.

And
“The enemy is not Hamas. Every child, every baby in Gaza is an enemy,” Former member of the Knesset Moshe Feiglin said during an interview.

That's horrendous. It's frightening and disgusting that some posters on here seem to think the same. I despair of humanity sometimes.
