Starmer’s support for Palestine

Steph888 · 21/09/2025 15:39

Am I alone in seeing this as one of the darkest days in UK history?

Never before did I think I’d end up living under a government who reward terrorism.

Starmer and Labour are grotesque. History will not be kind to them. They have now empowered all terrorists and their supporters.

We deserve such better than this reprehensible government. They disgust me.

Nope, you're being ridiculous and your rhetoric is kind of unbelievable. Starmer has been very even-handed in all of this. The only big issue is that he is willing to recognise Palestinian statehood despite the fact that the current regime cannot govern but won't even grant Scotland an independence referendum after its Parliament voted for one.

We had a referendum , we voted NO incase you missed it.

I stand with Israel. They're not the ones raping children, beheading babies, and videoing themselves celebrating it.

Nah, just shooting and starving and terrorising them over many months.

Remember the doctor who was told her 5 children had been blown to bits while she was saving lives? Or the guy who went to register his twins birth and got home to find his wife and new borns dead?

You must be so proud.

Yes, I said I might be wrong about it being yougov and I'd dig into it. Then I found it was JL partners and gave you a share token for it.

I know I read it.

Just saying it may not be representative of all polls, obviously it coincides with the numbers in the Daily Mail so it's just sampling of different groups of people .

Matronic6 · 21/09/2025 17:49

I assume these figures are from the Daily Mail.

Nope.

LeonMccogh · 21/09/2025 17:44

This is exactly what I meant by my previous comment about them having been freed within days if that had been what the government had wanted.

Sadly, they’re more useful as “bargaining chips” than as individuals.

Exactly. None of their tactics have been in pursuit of hostages and they've only created conditions that put the hostages in danger from their relentless mass bombings and cutting off food and water.

Matronic6 · 21/09/2025 17:49

Upstartled · 21/09/2025 17:26

Only 10% of the country are in favour of this move. I'm with the 90%

I assume these figures are from the Daily Mail.

TheGander · 21/09/2025 17:49

He wants to land grab, for all I know he wants to avenge his brother, he wants to keep power, he is backed by ultra orthodox thugs and enabled by Trump.

Upstartled · 21/09/2025 17:48

Martymcfly24 · 21/09/2025 17:46

Nope. It's 44% of all age groups and rises to 65% for 18-24 and reduces to 37% for 65 plus.

Yes, I said I might be wrong about it being yougov and I'd dig into it. Then I found it was JL partners and gave you a share token for it.

If they are getting starved then there is a food distribution problem with the UN and other NGO's

If they are getting 'blown up' then that's due to Hamas using them as 'human shields'.

You forget that Hamas don't care. They want to destroy the State of Israel and aren't bothered who gets in the way.

Trucks were stopped at the border , the UN couldn't get them to distribute.

How is dropped 500 pound bombs on a tented village of displaced people "human shields" ?

(IDF quite Keen on using human shields too btw)

Just starving them and blowing them up. Which is fine, right?

The YouGov one appears to be of younger people.

Nope. It's 44% of all age groups and rises to 65% for 18-24 and reduces to 37% for 65 plus.

JustSawJohnny · 21/09/2025 17:45

I'm Jewish and think this is long overdue. Palestinians deserve a state, they don't deserve to have the possibility taken away because of the awful action a minority took on 7 October on their behalf.

This is what it boils down to for me.

The people are paying with their lives for the actions of a small number of terrorists.

wrongthinker · 21/09/2025 17:45

MyHeartyCoralSnail · 21/09/2025 17:12

It is indeed a dark day. Irrespective of what you think of Palestine and Israel, what Starmer has done is bow down to terrorists. This was Hamas’s plan all along to garner the sympathy of the useful idiots. I’m so angry at this man who has sold my country and its ethics down the river. He is stupid and immoral. He has rewarded the rape, torture and murder of women and children. Disgusting human being.

Exactly. It's reprehensible.

I think given Israel said many many many many months ago now that releasing the hostages would not stop their onslaught on Gaza, any opportunity for Hamas to do that is long gone. Israel has sold those hostages down the river in their pursuit of destroying Gaza.

This is exactly what I meant by my previous comment about them having been freed within days if that had been what the government had wanted.

Sadly, they’re more useful as “bargaining chips” than as individuals.

Never happened. What Israel might have resisted is pressure for yet another ceasefire in return for a few more hostages. For anything to change, this war has to end in victory not a chance for Hamas to rearm aka ceasefire.

If Hamas releases the hostages and surrenders, the war ends now.

I don't know... a poster going "Of course antisemitism exists but I'm 5000 years old and have never ever seen it, so...." is pretty much near enough to denial as makes no difference. The lip service is there but the clear implication is that it doesn't exist in any significant or meaningful sense, and that's just sheer bullshit. The poster either doesn't recognise it (most likely) or lives in a pod.

I have witnessed it. A family member of mine is a complete anti-semite and a total disgrace. We don't speak because of it.

It exists, it happens every day and I will always stand up for any Jewish person on the receiving end of it.

JoiedeMay · 21/09/2025 17:44

Yes, the hostages should be free. Including the hundreds of Palestinians (including children) thrown into jail without charge or trial every year well before Oct 7. In the West Bank, where Hamas does not govern. That's if they're not killed or forcibly expelled from their homes to make way for a Jewish family from Texas.

Also, here's a quote from Netanyahu at a 2019 Likud party conference for you: "Anyone who wants to thwart the establishment of a Palestinian state has to support bolstering Hamas and transferring money to Hamas ... This is part of our strategy – to isolate the Palestinians in Gaza from the Palestinians in the West Bank."

Renoonabudget · 21/09/2025 17:43

Upbraidy · 21/09/2025 16:18

Freedom fighters? Anyone who murders an innocent civilian is not a freedom fighter.

That would make the IDF the biggest terrorists going then!

ThatCyanCat · 21/09/2025 17:43

Martymcfly24 · 21/09/2025 17:38

Interesting that's it's completely different to the YouGov poll but the exact same numbers as the one the Daily Mail are currently running. Obviously drew from a similar demographic.

The YouGov one appears to be of younger people.

I'm Jewish and think this is long overdue. Palestinians deserve a state, they don't deserve to have the possibility taken away because of the awful action a minority took on 7 October on their behalf.

If the Israeli government did not want there to be recognition of Palestine they could have retaliated without turning to genocide, without mass starvation. It has made me ashamed to feel people might associate me with Israel but most of all made me feel total horror of what they have done to Gaza, actions that betray the memory of my family members murdered by Nazis in the Shoah.

This is only a start, but it's something. I can't say I am optimistic, because Netanyahu has assured a generation of hatred towards Israel from any surviving Gazans - I really wouldn't blame them.

100% this

Unrulyscrumptious · 21/09/2025 17:42

Honesting · 21/09/2025 17:39

I'm curious, at what point do you think it's morally imperative on the Gazan government to release the hostages and surrender?

I think given Israel said many many many many months ago now that releasing the hostages would not stop their onslaught on Gaza, any opportunity for Hamas to do that is long gone. Israel has sold those hostages down the river in their pursuit of destroying Gaza.

PurpleChrayn · 21/09/2025 17:42

I’m a Jew and I’ve started the process today to move to Israel.

Truly dark times.

TheGander · 21/09/2025 17:41

@Honesting my mistake, I was holding the government of Israel to a higher moral standard than Hamas. Who are a terrorist group and outside of any accepted norms of civilised behaviour.

JustSawJohnny · 21/09/2025 17:41

Recognising Palestine as a state is 'rewarding terrorism'?

And what exactly is turning our backs while Palestinians are starved or bombed while queuing for aid?

I have no issue with Jews.

I will not support the current choices of the Israeli government.

If Bush had all but flattened Afghanistan in the wake of 9-11, the World would have had something to say about it.

A terrorist attack, even if truly sickening, does not warrant this.

The people of Palestine cannot all be sacrificed for Hamas.
