Fucking Gross Adverts

It started with little kids on the toilet with their pants round their ankles, holding their noses.

Then there was the one with a woman farting at work and then scurrying to the bathroom clutching a bog roll.

I think I reached the nadir last night when I was subjected to an advert for razors which treated me to the sight of a man bending down with his back to the camera and his hand under his dressing gown, shaving his sack and crack.

I mean, that might not be the nadir. Maybe next time they’ll drop the dressing down, and I can feast my eyes on his arsehole winking at me while it gets a short back and sides.

At this rate I’ll have to clear all the crap off my kitchen table and start eating like a civilised human again.

AIBU, or are adverts getting increasingly foul?

I agree with you 100% OP.

About a year ago I saw an advert where a young girl was sat on the toilet and looked down at the blood in her pants and noticed she had started her first period. Just something about it made me uncomfortable - maybe it's the way it was filmed. It seemed unnecessarily graphic and even slightly titillating.

I thought if I was a young girl and that came on the TV with men in the room I would have been absolutely mortified.

There was no need for it to be portrayed that way to get its point across.

I only ever saw it that once which makes me wonder if it was pulled.

The dancing Pepso Bismol people. “Diarrhoea!”

The standing on one leg pose gets me, if you had diarrhoea that's the last thing you'd do 🙄

101Alsatians · 21/09/2025 10:57

I saw one recently with a lady talking very openly about vaginal dryness (can't remember what the product was).13 year old son looked aghast, went bright red 'VAGINAL DRYNESS?!!Now that is too much information' and promptly left the room.

I did laugh 🤣And yes,he does know all the facts of life etc., but no, we don't go over them at the dinner table etc.

My nephew and his mates sing this along with I Didn't Know You Had Dandruff. They're 10.

Womanofcustard · 21/09/2025 10:50

Where is everybody seeing these ads? I’ve never seen any of them! I mostly watch YouTube, it’s just Jet2 holiday adverts there.

Fionasapples · 21/09/2025 10:50

I'm convinced they're written by an 8 year old who thinks poo and bottoms are hilarious.

soupyspoon · 21/09/2025 10:49

Perhaps Andrex would like to sponsor the opening of more public toilets and to support schools financially to maintain the operation of their toilets but also manage to keep them safe for children to use. This is why children dont go to toilet at schools. I started a thread recently about lack of public loos, here and abroad.

Put their money where their mouth is perhaps rather than going for shock value.

This one! If ever an advert has the opposite effect of making me want to buy it it’s this one!!

I've just been joyously singing it while making my morning cuppa!

Mokel · 21/09/2025 10:48

Owly11 · 21/09/2025 08:29

Same! We always used to mute them and I still do that now. It’s nice to have a pause from the noise for a minute or two and there’s absolutely no need to watch the adverts!

I usually skip the adverts but some streaming services, you have to pay MORE to skip them - Amazon, that is you.

If you can skip adverts, you are saving the time of about 55 episodes of 53 mins long a year. As if you watch US shows or those on channels with adverts, the hour long shows are 52/53 mins.

Based on 10 shows a week.

fastingforweightloss · 21/09/2025 10:46

The lastest Andrex advert that says 74% of children hold in their poo at school, then we see a boy of about 13, get another boy to pull his finger, then we see the bum of his trousers move with a fart sound, cue him going to the toilet with a bog roll. It's absolutely gross.

Now when I pause the TV, a side advert comes on for Andrex, saying things like "Don't hold it in". Makes me never want to buy Andrex again. Fucking RANK.

Nope you're not being unreasonable...they are getting out and out worse! Even the period ones are going too far now 🙄

Yes why do they feel it necessary to use red dye now instead of blue.

We all know what a period looks like and don’t need to be shown. The red turns my stomach when I see it on the advert and I’m not normally queasy! Maybe it’s the years of endometriosis affecting my response?

I love that advert Grin

Enigma54 · 21/09/2025 10:43

YANBU Today’s ads are bloody stupid.
I don’t like how Cadbury have got involved with the dementia ad, I hate seeing CI of bears advertising mobile phone networks (?) all the period ones have gone WAY too far and all those stupid lenor and bog roll ads, just Urghh!

But what would today’s generation think of a bunch of aliens advertising smash, a scantily clad woman provocatively eating a flake, or a man wearing a striped pyjamas, getting up in the night to swig a bit of R White’s lemonade? No idea! I’m mid 50’s and ads were good back then.

Bring back the sanitary protection adverts back with that woman running with her dog.

I don't want to hear that oh my gush moments.

KimberleyClark · 21/09/2025 10:41

I always hated that Lindt ad with the close up of the woman’s lips around the chocolate - gross.

AndStand · 21/09/2025 10:40

I also can't stand the loo roll ad of the child at school hovering his way through the school holding the loo roll like it's a trophy. I hate the visible fart, and the audible plop at the end.
But the crotch sniffing for "lower body deodorant" is awful. Who is that advert aimed at? People who can't be bothered to wash that's who.

soupyspoon · 21/09/2025 10:40

I suppose for people thinking that this is all ok and whats the problem - do you urinate or deficate in public? Are you in the habit of changing your sanitary products in public? Do you freely pass wind on the bus, train, in the office, walking around where people would be able to hear clearly its you? Do you pick your nose or clean out your ears in full view of everyone? Do you put your hands down your trousers and have a good scratch?

If you dont do these things in public, why not?

Theswiveleyeballsinthesky · 21/09/2025 10:40

ThanksForAllTheFish · 21/09/2025 09:51

I find that advert quite funny. It’s not really gross as they are just dancing and the way the song ‘Diarrhoea’ does its job as the song sticks in your head.

I always wonder how the actors feel doing that and whether their soul is dying inside as they clutch their arse and gurn at the camera

"3 years at drama school and massive debt for this"

Dontlletmedownbruce · 21/09/2025 10:40

I couldn't agree more OP. It seems that every middle aged woman is going around piddling herself. And those awful ads showing period blood, we all know it's blood ffs and we know what absorbant means, we don't need a demo. The awful poonami ones really annoys me. What a stupid word..it also advertises that the child won't wake you when they have a filthy nappy so basically encouraging parents to leave a child for hours in a foul nappy. The deodorant one for our genitals, they can F off, the ones showing people grooming their pubic area, literally showing a person shaving down there.

In the era where TV ads have less impact they used to have it seems like madness, I am more likely to forward these awful offensive ads than watch them. Surely the aim is an ad that people like and encourages them to buy the product? I am much more likely to avoid a product cos of an offensive ad.

BlueEyedBogWitch · 21/09/2025 10:36

cantthinkofanythingelse · 21/09/2025 10:31

Not just adverts that now show “too much” but I can’t stand it when I’m watching tv and they show someone vomiting. Not just the sound or rushing to the bathroom but actually seeing it. Can nothing be left to our imagination these days?

Yes, agreed. And weeing.

Graphic depictions of bodily functions seem to be shorthand for ‘gritty’ drama.

OP posts:
Enigma54 · 21/09/2025 10:34

Bring back the R Whites lemonade and flake ads, all is forgiven! 🤣

Teenagequeenwithaloadedgun · 21/09/2025 10:34

YANBU. There's an advert at the moment for Tena lady and it's just close ups of women's crotches while they prance around. I don't want to see minges.

doistayordoigo · 21/09/2025 10:34

I think people are forgetting we used to have much more graphic adverts with kids getting run over on the railway lines or drowning in quarries that were shown regularly. Personally I'd rather have the jaunty Pepto Bismol ad. The KFC one though is properly weird and makes no actual sense.

Namechanged555 · 21/09/2025 10:33

I couldn’t stand the diarrhoea one but then I think I have recognised a relative in it. I hate the haribo child voices one. I hate one where a load of people are playing basketball and guy starts singing ‘I see you ok’ then it gets faster and faster. Not sure why I hate that one but It has to be muted. The Tesco one where they suddenly scream ‘I got the power’ I hate that. The ‘bulky pee pants’ one is just so unnecessary. I can’t stand the poor donkeys one it just goes on and on. Also the poor children with hair lips it’s just on and on and on.
