Fucking Gross Adverts

It started with little kids on the toilet with their pants round their ankles, holding their noses.

Then there was the one with a woman farting at work and then scurrying to the bathroom clutching a bog roll.

I think I reached the nadir last night when I was subjected to an advert for razors which treated me to the sight of a man bending down with his back to the camera and his hand under his dressing gown, shaving his sack and crack.

I mean, that might not be the nadir. Maybe next time they’ll drop the dressing down, and I can feast my eyes on his arsehole winking at me while it gets a short back and sides.

At this rate I’ll have to clear all the crap off my kitchen table and start eating like a civilised human again.

AIBU, or are adverts getting increasingly foul?

I cant stand the loo roll adverts! They're awful!!

We always mute the adverts if we're watching live tv these days as its all just noisy crap.

Lucyweeks · 21/09/2025 09:03

Mr Q bingo and losing the loo roll.
How's he going to wipe? Great for my diet as it puts me off my tea.

Andrex, disgusting.

The 'Come Up and See Me' one for Viagra was also 🤢

Absolutely. That Cockney Rebel song was an all time favourite of mine and has been ruined for me 😡

Bringyourfoldingchair · 21/09/2025 09:01

Yes I agree. Some are disgusting. The one with people spraying deodorant on their arses is revolting. Slightly off topic, but also Sabrina Carpenters song about tears dripping down her thighs makes me gag. Boke.

ResusciAnnie · 21/09/2025 08:58

Why do we need to see it at all though. No one who uses sanitary wear actually needs a demo do they. Ditto loo roll.

And why do we need to see a woman putting a tenalady in her pants? I think most of us know how to use them.

Livelovebehappy · 21/09/2025 09:00

Anyone seen the new Co-op advert? It’s quite edgy for the Co-op. I started watching it and thought it was going to be for some sort of clothing brand.

Flomingho · 21/09/2025 08:59

flossisboss · 21/09/2025 07:55

YANBU. There's a full body deodorant one which is rank too. Not to mention that it's a stupid, needless, and damaging product.

Totally agree, that advert is horrible. Almost seems like it is encouraging people to mask smells with deodorant instead of washing🤮

MyOliveStork · 21/09/2025 08:59

The ‘gush’ adverts. We are rewatching Clarksons Farm and constantly getting these ads, every break. They are gross and I don’t know why playing them during Clarksons Farm is appropriate? We all have bodily functions, part of life, but these ads are unpleasant, unnecessary and too much in your face. We mute the ads all the time these days.

Livelovebehappy · 21/09/2025 08:58

I’m torn on this, because yes, some adverts are increasingly crossing the line, when it seems to be unnecessary. But the period ones, I think are really good for young girls to not be feeling they can’t talk about the issue freely. I recall when I started my period, many many years ago, I felt really awkward discussing it with my mum, and in fact hid it from her for a long time. Which makes me feel sad for the younger me. And I also didn’t discuss anything to do with periods with my husband during my marriage. It used to feel like a secret that you shouldn’t bring up in conversation. My adult dd discusses hers freely with anyone and everyone - maybe too far the other way now 😁

PuppiesProzacProsecco · 21/09/2025 08:58

The Pampers "poonami" one drives me mad. Especially as the parents go back to sleep after the baby does the "poonami" without changing the nappy! I mean FFS, just because the shit didn't leak out everywhere, you're not seriously leaving that baby to sleep in its own shit all night are you?! Gives me such (completely irrational) anxiety.

Joyunlimited · 21/09/2025 08:02

I really don’t see the problem with this. I was just thinking the other day how refreshing it is that advertisers no longer have to use blue liquid to represent menstrual blood. Why should something experienced by half the people who have ever lived to adulthood be something to be ashamed of or disguised?

Why do we need to see it at all though. No one who uses sanitary wear actually needs a demo do they. Ditto loo roll.

Runnersandtoms · 21/09/2025 08:58

The radio one for Tena pads makes me cringe where the women and talking about yoga and 'finding my flow'. Literally nobody I know would talk about this stuff like that, even if they might make a passing comment to good friends about their pelvic floor not being as strong as pre-kids etc.

BlueEyedBogWitch · 21/09/2025 08:52

Are you genuinely offended by swearing, or do you just feel like passing some time arguing on the internet this morning?

Ha, I thought the same tbh!
I think the adverts are unnecessary, but the language and descriptions in your posts would make me put my breakfast down quicker than the ads ever did!
As for spending time on here arguing. This place is for expressing opinions, and you're clearly expressing yours, so fairs fair!

AlaKart · 21/09/2025 08:57

The stained jeans one. Yuck

busymomtoone · 21/09/2025 08:57

Thought it was just me - ads used to be humorous- now I just flip to my phone during them - muting is a fav idea because if I hear domino oh hoo again I might just break the tv!! I don’t know if the shock value of the gross ads is to get people to look / talk about them but for certain the talent pool in advertising must have shrunk significantly because I can’t remember the last as I watched that made me think “ ohh that’s clever/ funny/ sweet/ entertaining “ ( possibly the haribo kiddy voices?)

The dancing Pepso Bismol people. “Diarrhoea!”

Now come on, the kids LOVE that one. So funny!

birling16 · 21/09/2025 08:56

Unpopular and hideously old fashioned but some things are best left in the background.

RhaenysRocks · 21/09/2025 08:53

Sux2buthen · 21/09/2025 08:44

Maybe some posters here need to unclench and release the gas a bit themselves 💨

Maybe some posters need to realise that they are no longer in primary school.

landlordhell · 21/09/2025 08:52

Totally agree. It’s just too much. Shoved in your face. Makes me switch over so totally misses the point of an ad My DD21 was aghast at the new period ones the other day so it’s not just my old fashioned mind.

BlueEyedBogWitch · 21/09/2025 08:52

Blimey mumsnet is regressive

Blinkingbother · 21/09/2025 08:52

Personally I can’t stand the Dominos pizza one - couple sharing a bath and the delivery guy comes up out of the water to join them?….its grim and I can’t imagine it makes anyone want to order a takeaway! Bleurghh.

LauraNorda · 21/09/2025 08:51

BlueEyedBogWitch · 21/09/2025 08:44

I didn’t resort to an expletive. I chose it, gleefully.

But why?

Boustrophedon · 21/09/2025 08:50

Agreed, OP. I sit in disbelief at the hideous ads they foist on us now. It was bad enough with the deodorant one showing everyone's crotches, feet and whatnot - then they plumbed the depths with the woman in the cinema sniffing the bloke's backside. They’re absolutely gross.

Oh, and yes, the Pepto-Bismol one. Can you imagine being that actor?
'Had any good jobs lately, Fred?'
'Well, yes actually, I gave my Diarrhoea in a Pepto-Bismol ad. Some of my finest work, actually.'

HereBeFuckery · 21/09/2025 08:50

The stupid chewing gum one is more irritating for the poor English. “Chew good”? What is ‘good’? It’s not a thing I feel equipped to chew. I can chew all kinds of nouns - toast, gum, a steak - but I cannot chew an adjective.
