To think there is some kind of weird push towards the far right?

I’m the first to admit that I am not the best informed - I prefer to keep my life stress free and simple as much as possible, and don’t have a TV, don’t read papers, and only listen to the radio when I’m driving (which is quite often). For my own mental health I prefer to live in my own little bubble.

But even with my limited exposure to media, I’ve noticed on Radio 2, both on the news and Jeremy Vine’s show, Reform are being given so much air time considering their paltry amount of MPs, the polls are being discussed regularly even though we’re years from an election. More than once listening to the radio I’ve thought the way they’re talking makes it sound like Reform winning the next election is a done deal, and thought to myself that this is how self fulfilling prophecies happen.

My algorithms on FB are seriously messed up. Despite having never been remotely interested in anything in the least bit right wing, all of a sudden I’m getting endless posts from knuckle dragging ‘patriot’ groups that I don’t even follow, with really horrendous and openly racist comments, thousands of them, which somehow FB are allowing to remain even though any kind of hate speech has always been censored on there. Why are these posts suddenly being allowed and pushed in my face?

Alongside this there seems to be a new story pretty much every day about the latest scandal involving Labour (again reported by the BBC), ok these things aren’t great although compared to the Tories’ rap list from their last spell in government, are fairly small fry really. It seems like there’s an active push for people to rebel away from the left just as the far right are gaining momentum.

Has anyone else noticed this or am I talking shite?

Have you thought about what has made people so disillusioned with the left that they are gravitating toward the right?

Yes. Less money in their pockets, the desire for a simple answer to complex problems, unwillingness to engage with evidence, and gullibility.

Which, when pointed out to them, makes them feel like 'the left' is patronising and looking down on them.

But Farage promised a healthier economy and lower immigration if the country voted to leave the EU. So the country did. Our economy fell and then was in a terrible position when the pandemic hit, immigration rose to record highs.

People have seen what happens when you believe Farage and his simple answers. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice...

The entire premise of the lesson was that diversity is our strength which is a direct quote from the mayor of London. And I was expressing that there was a time when I would not have questioned that and I now find that it no longer sits right with me for that aspect of Britain to be singled out as our most important quality. What is baseless about that? You've taken umbrage with this for some reasonn and have tried to micro-analyse my words on a granular level in a clumsy and fruitless attempt to pull them apart when I'm quite certain you could be spending your time more profitably in other endeavors. I'm not sure you even know what point it is you are trying to make at this stage.

So why has your opinion changed?

Why do you no longer feel multiculturalism is something to be proud of? What has changed for you?
Is it something that has actually happened or have you been swayed by the opinions of others?

This is what interests me as every list across all political aspects included multiculturalism as a reason to be proud of our country. Until last year.

You are correct
I am vegan and typically so ,always voted green .
Then the Edinburgh rape crisis centre, and they got involved in that .
And slowly I realise they are not the party I thought they were
So I'm politically homeless..and none of them currently get my vote

I also used to vote Green until the trans lie and they showed women didn't matter. I've not voted for them since. They are the reason for their own downfall, facts matter.

Reform is the only party currently campaigning, and they are still polling at only 34%.

When you consider only 20% of voters voted for the current Labour government….

Here we are. Just stating shit you read on Facebook as fact when even the most cursory of research would show you were incorrect. If you are here in good faith of course, which I doubt.

I fucking hate 2025.

You and your lovely Japanese friends discussing the joys of MC over a cup of Ocha is a world away from what's happening in the UK and what is going to happen.

Well, yes, given that I was commenting on what has been happening in Japan, I wouldn't really expect it to be the same as what is happening here in the UK. There are some similarities, for sure, but Japan and the UK are very different societies as most people will be aware.

I'm not really sure what point you're trying to make, other than to express your dislike of anyone who you perceive to be middle class, seemingly on the grounds that they don't share your views.

Goldenbear · 16/09/2025 17:34

ColdSalads · 16/09/2025 17:06

Tell me you're middle class and privileged without telling me you're middle class and privileged. ha ha.

Why have all these rules and definitions about what people are, you may find it liberating.

ColdSalads · 16/09/2025 17:28

Mlddleoftheroad · 16/09/2025 17:24

What is going to happen?

A Reform government which will offer practically no change and the people realising that no matter what the politician, they won't address their concerns. The people might decide they want to become ungovernable and the state and the police lose control and our trust society evapourates for good.

Or.

We all get given digital IDs and at the merest hint of trouble or dissent, your bank account get's deactivated.

They’re only jumping on it because they see it as a voting point. They don’t give a shit about women as we know.

They don't need to care, nobody does, I'm not demanding a flying unicorn, just policies that aren't overtly hostile to me, I'll support whoever does that.

Ah so you've taken a snippet of one lesson, in one school and taken that to mean that we are teaching that our best quality is diversity? Right. So another baseless claim.

I wasn't asking to you provide an essay at all. Just wondering why you were wading into a debate about something that you obviously knew nothing about.

I shouldn't be surprised though. People do often express opinions on stuff without any actual knowledge or understanding of what they're talking about.

OK, so a very simplistic analysis then? Fair enough, I wouldn't necessarily expect you to know anything if you don't speak the language or have a detailed knowledge of the country.

My entry point into this thread was that my daughters secondary school teacher set her a YouTube 'documentary' (looked to be made by a content creator rather than a proper documentary) to watch as homework. I do not feel the need to comb through the national curriculum to try and further support my anecdote if that is what you are sniffing about for?

I also asked which bit of the curriculum it is. But you couldn't answer that could you? You're derailing with a lecture instead.

The Japanese are fiercely proud of their country and they can see the effect mass immigration has had on Western Countries and they don't want that.

It's just a guess, normally the white, liberal, middle class, privileged kind of women, preaching the benefits of MC don't live in places like Luton.

And this is the crux of all our problems.

I'm not allowed to celebrate multiculturalism and how it makes Britain a better place because I'm (presumably a MC white woman) who isn't from Luton? It's so restrictive. The politicians and the algorithms have boxed us all in and I think it's wrong.

It's one point of view, admittedly. I didn't pay to get in Belton for what it's worth (free event) but I do know as a child of a single parent who worked but had to rely on benefits and without a car, that these things aren't as "open to all" as advertised.

Would I fight for a country that allows people to mix and for kids of all backgrounds, no matter colour, religion, origins or wealth to have access to everything that is wonderful about our country? Yes. Does that make me a naive moron? Also yes, probably. I don't care.

Yes, I think they're wrong to be concerned. So do my Japanese friends, who are appalled by the lurch to the right.

Given that you failed to answer any of my earlier questions:

It's also interesting that you talk about a lack of Christianity. Which aspect exactly?

Toleration?
Forgiveness?
Acceptance?
Love they neighbour?

These teachings of Christ seem to be the very things that we have embraced as a nation, but that some now would disregard.

How many of those that went to the giant pissup in London on Saturday, and cheered on the great Musk of the nazi salute made it into church on Sunday? Are churches now reporting increased numbers as a result of this new found Christianity?

What do you mean by patriotism? It seems to me that there is confusion from some around the definition of patriotism and that of nationalism. They are being confused by those who don't understand the difference. What is your understanding?

I don't think you can talk about waffle not being backed up.

Can you rewrite that into a shorter version I can understand so I can at least try and answer your questions, thanks.

Don't dish it out if you can't take it. I'm going to assume you've never lived anywhere with an ounce of any sort of diversity and your opinion is based upon what you read on X.
