To think Keir Starmer is toast as soon as the state visit is over

Just that really. If it wasn't for the visit he'd probably be gone already.

I think Starmer is safe until the next election. The backbenchers will huff and puff but ultimately the party is so bereft in talent that there isn't really anyone to step in. Look at the line up for the deputy leadership, we have more capable candidates running for the school PTA. One has already been sacked and the other is fucking up the education system even more than Gove which is an impressive feat. We are just going to have a drawn out farce until Reform get elected.

A drawn out farce followed by a swift crash as the fuckwit grifter party loot the economy. Or what's left of it. Just as the American ppl finally rid themselves of the Incubus, Britain will vote for the same toxic medicine.

Or maybe not....

Leave the man alone to do his job!

If only! Isn’t that the issue? He isn’t doing his job. He is totally out of his depth and some.

You know he is in trouble when Trump starts to feel sorry for him!!

There are plenty in the Labour ranks jostling for the leadership.

There isn't the same mechanism for Leadership challenges in the Labour party. Much less chaotic.

Bagsintheboot · 15/09/2025 21:54

Don't be daft, the next election is four years off.

So? Look how many PMs the Tories went through

i have no idea how he has held on for so long with everything. That said sometimes it’s better the devil you know, if he goes there is no one to really take over

But what were they hoping to win? People need to get real - they want good public services that are getting ever more expensive as the population ages, and which have been run down for over a decade by the previous government. Government debt is very high limiting the ability to run a deficit for much longer. Suggest that we might need to pay a bit more tax to dig our way out of the hole and whoever is affected screams blue murder. Ditto if you try to cut public spending. The circle has sort of been squared over previous decades by importing cheap labour from abroad, but now we've decided we really don't want that either. It is a giant shit sandwich and eventually we are all going to have to take a big bite - there are no easy answers. Cuddly uncle Nige will tell you that he can solve it by being nasty to a few thousand penniless powerless refugees and sacking a few council diversity officers. Uncle Nige is a fucking twat. But you go ahead and vote for him, I'll see you back here in a few years moaning about how he didn't magic up the golden sunlit uplands he promised either.

All the pro-Reform posters will magically vanish if Farage gets in. Or they will be bigging Farage up, come what may.

I think that Farage knows he is at his peak right now. Hence all the pushing for an early election and all the social media activity.

To keep the momentum going for another three and a half years is going to be challenging for Farage. Especially when he has Yaxley-Lennon encouraging the more far right of his supporters towards Advance.

Labour needs to stop chasing Reform votes. It needs to find its backbone. Make the tough decisions. We all need to pay more tax

I think that Starmer will last till the summer but we start hearing murmurs of votes if no confidence and 1922 committees in the next few weeks. Think it might depend on what reaction he gets during the conference.

@CrushingOnRubies given that you don't know what/who the 1922 Committee is, I'm not going to take the rest of your post seriously.

MargoLivebetter · 16/09/2025 08:59

Gone how? The Labour Party have different leadership processes to the Tories and they definitely don't have a 1922 Committee!!!!! They have a rule book and a National Executive responsible for all of that kind of stuff and it doesn't include just getting rid of a leader like the Tories do.

NapoleonsToe · 15/09/2025 23:38

My money is on either Wes Streeting, or Andy Burnham if a suitable by-election comes up. I don't think there's any chance of Starmer being leader by the time of the next election.

My money is on a woman.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 15/09/2025 23:23

This is all so stupid and so boring. He's been in post for a year. The Tories screwed the whole country over for 13 years. There's no general election due and nobody in Labour ready or able to take over. If the media would actually let him govern without baying for blood every few days, we might actually have chance to appreciate that we're not watching the Tories shit all over the country anymore.

And if people aren't careful, they'll be helping that twat Farage to more power - and anybody who thinks he's the answer is part of the problem.

This

Labour are losing their own support from the last GE, very few do approve and the majority don’t 11% v 70%. Apart from the more loyal on mn most can see it’s not going well.

Well yes, they are not giving us the change we need as far as I can see. We need neoliberalism over turned, we need the emphasis on capital that’s been going on for 20, 40 years overturned, we need all the myths busted, and we need it against a background of inequality and impoverishment - and lack of jobs due to computers /AI. The u-turn over winter fuel taxes was spineless and tax on millionaire tax-avoiding farm owners has gone quiet. There is no more time. But it’s difficult to find out what is happening now, and these right wingers do give me hope that more is happening than I see. I wonder if that’s their intention?

Chickenbone123 · 16/09/2025 08:54

LlynTegid · 15/09/2025 21:57

Exactly.

I think he won't be PM by 2029's general election though, it will be another Labour Prime Minister.

When did this start? Changing PMs all the time.

I don’t agree with it. It means the country can vote one person in. They leave and only the party voters get to chose the next. It’s undemocratic.

While he's not doing well, I can't see any reason Labour would get rid at the moment. They're not the Tories, constantly jostling for the leadership.

Just because Farage and presumably the shitty Reform social media algorithm keeps telling people we need another PM or another election, it doesn't mean we'll get one. Thank god. Let's have a bit of stability for a change.

When he does go, I'd like to see Wes Streeting in - he's better at connecting with people and I think would do well against Farage.

Another thread! The answer is no of course

Iwantmyoldnameback · 16/09/2025 08:52

Wes is doing brilliantly in his current role, not that he's getting much credit for it.
Keir would make a great Foreign Secretary he has done wonders with international relations

He needs better advisors, it's amazing how many people they lost by the removing of the WFA people still believe they won't be getting it now. It did need some kind of means testing but the bar was too low.

No Conservative government has ever had to deal with such a biased and viscous press, that's actually scary. And as for Musk...

Many of us are happy to roll the dice on that.

How is the pay off working out for those who gambled on Labour?

Christ I hope not. I'm a Labour voter but could never vote for her

Northquit · 16/09/2025 08:31

Is Mandy still on the payroll?

Is Starmer incompetent or a liar?

WhereIsMyJumper · 16/09/2025 08:05

SummerEve · 15/09/2025 23:51

I would hope he stays put. The revolving PM door is no way to run a country and we can’t just keep chopping and changing if we don’t like it.

I agree.
I don’t like Starmer, or Labour and I didn’t vote for them but having as much stability as we can is what is needed and that means him staying in post until the next election at least.

Julen7 · 16/09/2025 08:04

Right wingers are desperate aren’t they? Pick, pick, pick at every little thing. It is very noticeable after decades of Tory corruption and enough to make me think that Labourmust be doing something right, to scare them so much.

Not just right wingers are unhappy with this shower.

Labour’s popularity has nosedived very quickly after they came to power. I hope he does stay in post 😊

Violetparis · 16/09/2025 07:56

It's not just rightwingers who are critical of Labour. Myself and my Labour voting friends are all dismayed by what is happening with this government. I don't think Starmer will be gone by next week but will be gone after the May elections as Reform will do better than them in Scotland and Wales. I am so annoyed that Labour's self inflicted mistakes are helping Farage to have a good chance of being the next prime minister.
