The west can’t afford to tackle every crisis zone. It’s a bottomless pit of money required.
I agree the UN should be doing more on a practical, political intervention level though.
It feels pretty toothless atm, due to its impotence around Russia and Israel.

I think you nailed it with " there are too many conflicts". People only have so much bandwidth and it is being stretched thin at the moment.

The wars in Ukraine, Gaza, Ethiopia, and Mali. The vaudeville show that is USA today.
Global warming.
Pollution.
The war on women.
The immigration crisis in Europe.
Decreased welfare in former welfare states.

As pp has said, the West is not the world's Police.

I'm afraid I take the view that countries evolve in their own time and usually in blood and tears just as the West have.

Rather like Star Trek's non-interference directive.
As hard as it is I believe its the only way.

I think that when the West intervene its criticised so doesn't bother anymore. Its a no win situation.

Sadly the people there just die and no one seems to care. These regimes destroy everything.

We care but in all honesty I think the west is no longer the world’s policeman. Historically it’s an expensive exercise in failure. I think if a country has descended into war within its own borders then it’s going to be left to get on with it aside from a bit of international condemnation/ possible war crimes trials way down the line. Support to be given via UN for refugee camps in surrounding countries.

This.

We are criticised for getting involved in conflicts overseas - some say it’s an imperialist attitude. You can’t have it both ways!

I sometimes read that ‘we shouldn’t see Africa as a basket case - it doesn’t need or appreciate Western intervention “. Africa (which is a large number of very different nations anyway) can manage its own affairs, thank you.”

Honestly - “The West”, whatever that may be - and if it ever was an entity, it’s de-stabilising rapidly- can’t do right for doing wrong.

I think particularly Britain’s days of barging in and trying to help everyone around the world are over. We haven’t got the defence budget, for one thing.

The UN needs to take the lead, not The West.

I think the west dont personally feel under threat by it or that there are any resources they want from Sudan.

Its horrific, im surprised there arent more articles from a humanitarian perspective and agree with you on that front.

I agree.

It also doesn't capture people in the West so little news coverage.

I know. And then there are posters saying we as a Western nation should not be helping.

It's dreadful.

LifeisCruelinAfrica · 15/09/2025 09:21

More than 150,000 people have died in the conflict across the country, and about 12 million have fled their homes in what the United Nations has called the world's largest humanitarian crisis.

Are there too many conflicts and too.much going on in the world - so this one slips by barely noticed?
