People are fed up with extreme religions killing and harming each other in Africa. We have enough problems at home / on our doorstep to be worrying about Africa.

If the people on this site feel so strongly, jump on a plane and see how you are received by the locals. This being allowed an opinion nonsense won't be tolerated.

For giggles, what do people suggest is done? Send money/aid that will be stolen by the government? Arms that are needed in Ukraine? Send missionaries to educate and convert?

The charity I volunteer with raises funds to help the locals dig wells in Ghana. We fund Aquaboxes which filter water to make it potable and we fund Mercy Ships which provide medical care in West Africa.

That's really great.

I've friends that visit The Gambia and offer help and supplies to villages. Small scale but they help each year.

I agree it's coverage is much less than that on Gaza. Extremists in both countries mean neither will probably be peaceful for years to come.

Bingo

IsawwhatIsaw · 15/09/2025 10:49

There is no longer the appetite, public support or money to get as involved as we did.
conflicts nearer to home seem more pressing.

I agree Ukraine is closer and more worrying.

You also never hear about Yemen, arguably the worst crisis in the world. It is expected almost 1 million people will die by the end of this decade, around half from starvation or lack of infrastructure. Half of the population don’t have enough food and 5 million people are displaced.

Honestly this entire thread can be summed up as "I know nothing about something therefore it doesn't exist." Or else it is just a roundabout dig at UK supporters of Palestine.

LifeisCruelinAfrica · 15/09/2025 10:07

Could it be worse than it is in Sudan? 150,000 plus dead and over 12 million displaced.

Yes it could be worse. There could be that… and then a regime taking over like in Afghanistan.

You hear about Yemen literally ALL the time in the news, as the West are heavily involved due to the shipping lane disruption, not to mention multiple military interventions by the US, UK, and KSA in support of the Yemeni government.

It gets more of the headlines definitely.

I must have missed the bit where the UK government is actively supporting the SAF (or is it the Janjaweed?)

Good. I hope it will take responsibility for any refugees from that conflict, too.

Again. Google is your friend. Around 5% of the population of KSA is made up of refugees, with de facto refugees from Syria making the largest proportion (nearly half a million).

CoffeeCantata · 15/09/2025 10:38

Pharazon · 15/09/2025 10:33

But they do! Far more than the West does. A simple google search would show you this.

Well that's cheered me up! So they don't spend all their dosh on bombers and missiles.

I hope we can leave it to them to the right thing in a wider sphere from now on.

Comedycook · 15/09/2025 10:37

Free free Sudan....

Oh dear, not trendy enough...

So you go from claiming that they aren't contributing everything, to claiming that $3Bn is not enough. ok then.

Why not, they can afford it. Should help more.

Maybe thats not enough. They are super rich with their oil sales.

Saudi Arabia has contributed over £3Bn of aid to relief efforts in Sudan ffs.

Good. I hope it will take responsibility for any refugees from that conflict, too.

I think that when the West intervene its criticised so doesn't bother anymore. Its a no win situation.

Sadly the people there just die and no one seems to care. These regimes destroy everything.

They do destroy everything it’s only going to increase. The number of democracies in Africa is decreasing, might makes right takeovers, rape being routinely as a tool of war. I think poverty and hunger makes people desperate. So you blame someone else who can be raped, tortured, maimed and killed in righteous anger. Then your group have the lions share of resources. It’s not anything new but technology makes the scale greater plus it’s played out publicly.

I do wonder if China perhaps has more clout given their investments within the region but I don’t think they go in with the follow my moral code more of a how we can ensure we get paid?

Maybe encourage the rich middle eastern countries to step up. Many of the problems are in their back yards.

But they do! Far more than the West does. A simple google search would show you this.
