What a guilt trippy headliner “ why does nobody in the west care”. Give over.

It's because the perpetrators aren't Jewish.

🙄

AirborneElephant · 15/09/2025 12:15

Ukraine and Gaza are wars of aggression. One country has invaded another or two countries have declared war. Yemen and Sudan are civil wars with different local factions fighting each other. The first type of war can sometimes be solved with a peace treaty and international sanctions, and sometimes needs other countries to to intervene to make it clear that further expansion will not be tolerated, eg Russia. But a civil war is almost impossible to fix. As others have said, what do you want to do when both sides are committing atrocities? If we did intervene what would we then do?

I don’t think historically the Uk had that role in Africa. I think the U.S. had a good go at being the world policeman backed up by the west post WW2 I think manipulating / interfering in another country comes back to bite you. Get rid of a despot and it creates a vacuum generally filled by someone equally bad (although perhaps for different reasons?)

I mean if you go far back enough we did, 'Pax Britannia' and all that.

PaxAeterna · 15/09/2025 11:26

We have very little diplomatic leverage in the situation. There is no clear “ask” to target the UK government with.

I think people do care but there is very little content coming from Sudan because of the poor communications infrastructure. So this means it gets much less media coverage.

From this thread it seems that people dismiss conflicts in Africa as “tribal” or “their own problem”. This isn’t really true as there are many foreign influences in this war but obviously that is what people think.

Fascinated that people see the UK’s role in Africa as being “the world’s police” . That’s not what happened.

Don't be ridiculous. Many people are far less critical of Israel specifically because it is a Jewish country and they don't want to be seen as Anti Semitic.

More than 150,000 people have died in the conflict across the country, and about 12 million have fled their homes in what the United Nations has called the world's largest humanitarian crisis.

Are there too many conflicts and too.much going on in the world - so this one slips by barely noticed?

Tbh it seems to be the UN quote all the time. These countries even though is sad need to sort themselves out.

I believe ‘the West’ does care, but it has very few/no solutions. It’s not like Russia, as sanctions/striking trade details/quarantining funds outside the country will do nothing as there is so little of that to work with. Apart from the West literally storming these countries and taking them over, which would cause an even bigger outcry, what is the solution? Aid is provided, but mainly that is often mismanaged by corruption in these countries, so what do you believe is the answer here?

Yes - that is the question. Any ideas from those who think TheWest should get involved?

Nigerian Christians are persecuted every day and many are murdered but the media stays silent.

They only tell you what they want you to get het up about, Ukraine, ‘Palestinians’ etc. The media spoon feed the masses bias and lies and the masses lap it up.

😂

Honestly this entire thread can be summed up as "I know nothing about something therefore it doesn't exist." Or else it is just a roundabout dig at UK supporters of Palestine.

Billionaires have not decided this is newsworthy, so it's not on anyone's radar.

reesewithoutaspoon · 15/09/2025 11:08

For the nearly 60 years I have been on this planet there have been wars conflicts and famine within Africa and other middle Eastern countries.
It's horrific but change needs to come from within those countries, we can't keep pouring billions into these countries to end up in the pockets of their 'leaders' , we can't absorb those who want to leave and we can't overthrow their leaders.
Apart from marching, waving flags or donating to refugee relief what can we do?
There have been continual protests for Gaza, what has it achieved? Unless the political leaders have a will to change it,it continues.

lanadelgrey · 15/09/2025 11:06

The UK holds notional oversight for Sudan. It is the ‘pen holder’ in international response. Not sure if it is due to historical colonisation or how that is decided.
The reasons the ‘west’ intervened in postwar conflicts was a mixture of guilt, wanting to prop up pro-western rather than Moscow friendly governments and interest in natural resources.
The former two less of a concern now. And without a strong US they can’t hope to do the latter.
Aid agencies have been knocked by Trump’s cuts, are aware of compassion fatigue and it is v hard for journalists to get into Sudan so it isn’t on the radar

Many reasons but some spring to mind

There are no obvious good guys. Both sides are beyond awful.

Both major parties to the conflict- the official Government and the RSF - are being funded and supported by foreign powers, mainly the UAE and Russia.

Its complicated.

Yes its complicated

People are fed up with extreme religions killing and harming each other in Africa. We have enough problems at home / on our doorstep to be worrying about Africa.

If the people on this site feel so strongly, jump on a plane and see how you are received by the locals. This being allowed an opinion nonsense won't be tolerated.

For giggles, what do people suggest is done? Send money/aid that will be stolen by the government? Arms that are needed in Ukraine? Send missionaries to educate and convert?

Africa is a continent. OP is talking about one country: Sudan.

Saudi Arabia has contributed over £3Bn of aid to relief efforts in Sudan ffs.

Don’t you come in here with your filthy facts.

ERthree · 15/09/2025 10:58

What are we supposed to do ? Even if we put boots on the ground we would have to be there for decades and when we leave they will just go back to fighting. it is tribal and none of our business.

That's really great.

I've friends that visit The Gambia and offer help and supplies to villages. Small scale but they help each year.
