I’ve noticed I’ve got a favourite seat in the living room and it’s accumulated a few of my things on and around it like my handbag, sweets, book, medication (because it’s the only thing that helps me remember to take it) a couple of letters that I opened and haven’t put away yet and a pack of baby wipes.
Dh is watching the game just now and I’ve sat down in my spot and accidentally knocked my medication off the armrest. I turned to dh and said “ do you know what would be handy, a little table next to me so I can put all my bits and bobs on” 🤦🏻‍♀️ my life flashed before my eyes before the words finished leaving my mouth. I’m 41 by the way how has nobody told me about this monumental moment.

Envious of all of you who can still SEE rogue hairs to be plucked out of face..

Agree. Had my eyebrows done at the hairdresser's and she said, "Would you like me to do your moustache as well?" I was flabbergasted, "What moustache?!" My DH was pissing himself (waiting patiently to give me a lift home).

Majority of outfits (and pjs/underwear) picked purely for comfort. Me 5 years ago wouldn’t have been seen in granny pants but now I love them and don’t care

One of my first steps towards crone territory came when I was about 43.

My late DP and I were on the top deck of a bus going to visit his DM on the IOW.

He suddenly leaned in and deftly plucked a 3/4 inch fine white hair from my top lip, which caused me to squeal in surprise and protest, then mortification. He thought it was hilarious.

It grows back and I only know it's got to plucking point when I catch a glimpse of it if I'm looking down and the light catches it. Sucks that I have to do it myself now.....

I’m a secondary school teacher, so it’s having students who have been alive for less time than I’ve been teaching for.

Mine was realising I have to now take my glasses off to be able to read things close up. I didn't realise that not being able to focus close up happens to pretty much every one with age, I'm scared I might have to get varifocals! I'm 43!

It's alright, you can get two pairs of identical glasses with the different prescriptions and no one need know.

Someone ten years younger than me was complaining how they feel/have got old now 😥

No, google “Palitoy Treehouse” and you’ll probably recognise it if you are old enough for this thread 😂. My grandpa made us a caravan for our weebles though that was just like our Sprite caravan.

Yes, that was the one I had! I called it a Weeble Treehouse because I put my weebles in it. Guess I thought that was what it was really called. Best toy ever!

JillMW · 15/09/2025 19:40

I am one of those awful women who thinks everyone aged 40plus is old fashioned yet fails to notice she is decades older and dresses like a young trendy person. I did get a shock in the pub last week when a man asked my husband why I had come in dressed like an old lady. He said they are used to seeing me in nice clothes. I had on jeans and a shirt so I think it must be me that suddenly looks my age rather than my clothes! Maybe time for me to discard most of my wardrobe!

40 this year. Said exact same thing to husband. I also have my own bed corner, lounge corner, bathroom corner. My hoarders corners, I call them. I also need a table. Ikea are good for these tables. Oh! I also know because everything hurts and I have 0 patience left.

I went to a museum and they had a Treehouse toy on display, exactly like mine that I still have at home from 80/81 ish. Devastated!

It dawned on me when if I got down on the floor I'd have trouble getting back up. I used to do cartwheels to make my DS laugh and spent half my life on the floor!

I had to have varifocals at 44! But they are brilliant and at least I don't have a separate pair of "readers".

I say things to myself like "I have to take my tablets". The last time I took a bath (in a fancy hotel spa) I struggled to get out.

I don't sleep well but I'm getting up earlier and earlier. But I like getting my pyjamas on as soon as possible and I wouldn't dream of starting a film after 8pm. I say things like "when I was a young woman".

NanaPurple · 15/09/2025 19:21

Going into a room to find something and I can't remember what I was looking for.

Coming back out of the room and finding something else that I was looking for days ago.

Trying to explain a movie or series I have been watching by saying "The lead actors was the woman who was married to that man who appeared in the film about the walrus." Or trying to remember anything by saying it's "Just like that green thing over there that you can sit on but it's not leather it's maybe plastic and you can get them in that shop that used to sell those pink things that my mum liked." Clear as mud.

Deciding to let technology slide. Had to ask my son what I did with a ticket that had been emailed to me with a strange square box printed on it.

Trying to us the ticket with the square box but not being able to find it on my iPhone as I had saved it somewhere special so that I would remember where it was.

Never, ever getting the correct position for supermarket scanners. Why are they all so different? Side swipe, top swipe, over there swipe and under here swipe. Designed to make me crazy.

Speaking loudly to the sale rail of clothes telling them all individually why no-one has bought them even when they are so inexpensive. And not caring that I get odd looks.

I've never been able to do my bra up that way - even when I was young and thin! I have to do it up at the front and slide round!

I've always done this so quick and easy. Just as well as I think I would dislocate my back or shoulders now trying to do it up at the back

Magicunicornpower · 15/09/2025 19:09

Sleeping with a pillow between my legs to avoid back pain in the morning. I am 43, been doing this for 3 years. Going for drinks with other mums and realizing some are 10 years younger than me, and as I can recall all under 40s. I feel very good fiscally though, but recently I realized I couldn't read a book without moving it further from my eyes, got a pair of glasses now. Also nothing makes me feel more comfortable than putting my pyjama on, ASAP when getting home from work. And some music nowadays!... Help!

I have a green jumper which I accidentally wore with brown cords once and looked exactly like that tree house

I bought sketchers slip ins. I’m 42. In my defence I have two destroyed hips and degenerative disk disease in my spine.

Sorry but these are great, got my first pair at 30, 32 now and still get them ha

ToadRage · 15/09/2025 19:03

I too have a favourite chair, slippers and a little table covered in all my 'shit'. But what made me feel really old was realising there are adults in the world who are too young to remember 9/11.
What's happening to me? I'm only 38.

I went to a social history museum recently. The staff there told me they were having a clear out. They explained that they needed to update the museum for modern visitors and wanted to display more stuff from the 70s. The 70s! Things from a decade I was alive in are now deemed museum worthy.

I’m really cross that the supermarket keep moving things.

MistressoftheDarkSide · 15/09/2025 19:02

I like a bit of slow sewing and making stuff. Threading a needle is now the bane of my life, requiring getting my glasses at just the right distance (I also wear contact lenses), getting the thread just right, with the right amount of spit, and I seem to have lost the feeling in the tips of my fingers for no good reason, so I spend alot of time retrieving said needle from wherever it's dropped, and half the time I can't see it at all. Beading needles are the worst.

And yes, I have needle threaders. The quality is usually so poor I just end up with a piddly bit of wire and nothing to grip to pull the thread through, because it's pulled off in my hand on the return journey.

Honestly my dexterity has deteriorated so much due to age and lack of practise, cos life, I might just take up a different hobby. Potato prints perhaps. Or crayons.

If I do any of the following:

drink alcohol
eat after 7
caffeine after midday
don’t exercise during the day
too many carbs at dinner

I will be wide awake between 12-4am. This will take me a week to recover from.

There is no slack in the system. I am a precious, wilting flower.

Me, too! You are not alone 🌺
