I’ve noticed I’ve got a favourite seat in the living room and it’s accumulated a few of my things on and around it like my handbag, sweets, book, medication (because it’s the only thing that helps me remember to take it) a couple of letters that I opened and haven’t put away yet and a pack of baby wipes.
Dh is watching the game just now and I’ve sat down in my spot and accidentally knocked my medication off the armrest. I turned to dh and said “ do you know what would be handy, a little table next to me so I can put all my bits and bobs on” 🤦🏻‍♀️ my life flashed before my eyes before the words finished leaving my mouth. I’m 41 by the way how has nobody told me about this monumental moment.

Reading glasses from Poundland and making a noise when I get up.

I was at the mirror in the gym, clocking my 57 year old post workout self looking like Alice Cooper when this stunning vision of twenty something beauty appeared beside me.
Five foot eleven, spectacular body, glowing skin, flawless makeup and arse length suprr shiny hair.

It was a moment.
🤣

I’m actually crying 🤣😭

Having to ask ChatGPT what 6 7 means.

That entire sentence went over my head 🤷🏼‍♂️

Owly11 · 14/09/2025 18:26

Wondering why babies go to school, and why police officers look like children. People referring to the 70s and 80s as the olden days. Being invisible to men, being patronised (‘oh bless’), people thinking they know a lot more than me despite having lived on the planet for half the time that I have, not being able to lift very heavy things any more, not being able to eat or drink as much as before, saying ‘ooh’ every time I sit down or get up.

Fleetheart · 14/09/2025 18:22

I am the oldest in my team at work (by far). When I told them I was excited as I was going to see Deacon Blue there were blank looks all round. I am the same age as most of their parents!

Mine was realising I have to now take my glasses off to be able to read things close up. I didn't realise that not being able to focus close up happens to pretty much every one with age, I'm scared I might have to get varifocals! I'm 43!

it will happen 😀but it's ok, when it does you just think they are miraculous! It only happened to me at about 55 though so hopefully you have a little way to go

Zempy · 14/09/2025 18:15

I’m 60.

My bloody neck. 😡

ShoeeMcfee · 14/09/2025 18:14

When I realised that my kids are now too old to have any more kids.

Also, I have gained a stone without eating more or doing anything different.

I have the lamp thing mentioned upthread too - the light often seems so gloomy when it's not sunshine outside, so I put on a lamp in the living room (do you still call it a living room?)

My once lush eyelashes are sparse little hairs.

I could go on...

flowerpaper · 14/09/2025 18:11

If I do any of the following:

drink alcohol
eat after 7
caffeine after midday
don’t exercise during the day
too many carbs at dinner

I will be wide awake between 12-4am. This will take me a week to recover from.

There is no slack in the system. I am a precious, wilting flower.

giuspeace · 14/09/2025 17:57

The scales. They tell me I'm 70 every time I weigh myself.

roshi42 · 14/09/2025 17:52

My face 😔

RememberBeKindWithKaren · 14/09/2025 17:52

In a pub quizz I realised I loved all the old 80s power ballads, REO speed wagon, Chicago and so on. I used to think they were soppy and naff at the time.

Also I can't do any weeding ( in good weather ) without it putting my back out the next day.

Cel77 · 14/09/2025 17:52

Getting up from a chair or the floor after spending a bit too long on it (like 30 mins). Ouch! I'm limping like I'm 80.
Also a silly app which tells me I look 50 when I'm a mere 47 years old!

squashyhat · 14/09/2025 17:26

Having to get up more than once in the night for a wee. Once is understandable; twice is bloody annoying. And we have a downstairs bathroom Angry

I understand, ours is downstairs too. Such a trek

IchiNiSanShiGo · 14/09/2025 17:49

47 here. Only recently started feeling “old” - clicky hip, varifocals, noticing actual wrinkles. However, I still listen to radio 1 and actually enjoy most of the music, so ya know, am down with the kids innit?

I signed up for a subscription service this week and had scroll down quite far to find my age range...

There are people working for our company who weren't born when I started there...

This! I have to scroll back for ages to find my birth year. I still find it strange anyone's been born in the 2000's

FurForksSake · 14/09/2025 17:45

Spinning the wheel to find your year of birth like your trying to win at roulette.

MidnightMusing5 · 14/09/2025 17:44

Stiff joints and looking forward to going to bed 😂

getting excited about discovering anything that makes my household chores easier.

We went out for a lovely meal in August, the food I chose was extremely rich and I felt moderately ill afterwards and had to go and sit outside in the fresh air. I felt slightly queasy and hot. I won't be repeating that in a hurry. One glass of wine involved. Luckily it was a lovely evening to be outside.

You need to start carrying Gaviscon around with you like I do.

So many foods I've eaten happily for years without effect are now "not agreeing with me"

Younger people prop their sunglasses on their heads and look stylish. My reading glasses propped on there just draws attention to all my grey roots...
