I’ve noticed I’ve got a favourite seat in the living room and it’s accumulated a few of my things on and around it like my handbag, sweets, book, medication (because it’s the only thing that helps me remember to take it) a couple of letters that I opened and haven’t put away yet and a pack of baby wipes.
Dh is watching the game just now and I’ve sat down in my spot and accidentally knocked my medication off the armrest. I turned to dh and said “ do you know what would be handy, a little table next to me so I can put all my bits and bobs on” 🤦🏻‍♀️ my life flashed before my eyes before the words finished leaving my mouth. I’m 41 by the way how has nobody told me about this monumental moment.

Chin hairs!! Why do I need a hairy chin, what purpose is that meant to serve??

toomanytrees · 14/09/2025 22:22

Sitting down to put on socks.

I don't eat fast food anymore but I'm really fancied a Burger King last week. I was feeling l a bit smug that I had actually downloaded the app and could take advantage of a discounted burger.

It occurred to me that I had no idea whatsoever how to do this via the drive through so went in. Asked at the counter about scanning the code. A lovely teen looked at her comrades for sympathy, came around and helped me navigate the touch screen. She used the same tone that I help my 80 year old mum with.

i was trying to work out how you got your bottom so close to your face in that position 😆😆😆🤣🤣🤭

🤣if only I was that flexible!

Same here. I wear contact lenses to be able to see distances so I now have a pair of reading glasses to correct my already-corrected vision. Optician said it usually happens from age 35 (!) so i guess I should feel quite lucky I haven’t been touting a pair of glasses round my neck on a chain for the past 10 years.

Me too! I’ve worn glasses since I was 7, contacts since 21, very shortsighted I thought when I got older the myopia would improve, I was gutted when I found I had to wear readers - what a double whammy!!

I have a child going to university next week 😭

And Im currently wearing my new glasses. They are varifocals….

Yes! I started feeling old when I realised that we had got to the point it was closer to my daughter potentially starting uni than me being there. Now we have a pile of boxes of uni stuff in the corner of our living room ready for next week.

I have not yet succumbed to varifocals but I do have to lift my glasses to read small labels.

Booking myself in for a left hip replacement to match my 6 year old right hip replacement, all whilst remembering I spent last summer on crutches for my left knee replacement.

10 years ago I was running 10k or half marathons every bloody weekend. How far have I fallen Sad

So did I! 😆😆

I once gummed the remains of a baggie I found in a nightclub toilet behind the cistern.

I now have a favourite laying-down pillow and a favourite sitting-up-in-bed pillow.

Thirties are MY DECADE.

You are my twin! I laugh at the 90’s I’d party from 5 on Friday to Sunday - little sleep, lots of ‘fun’ and be in work for Monday - now I’d need a week off minimum

Pastaandoranges · 14/09/2025 22:10

Yesterday, I drove past a kitchenware shop on our little high street and it had a closing down sale sign and I actually thought to myself
'Oh what a shame, I bought a really nice sieve from there last year and they had some lovely tea towels'
..then immediately after...
' Oh my god what am I thinking, I must be so old".

When conversation around us starts turning to retirement planning, rather than house buying or DC.

When, sitting at work in the lunchroom, my relative announces 'you must be almost to 50, Mermaid'. Her DS comes in & started saying he couldn't believe I was that old....

@CoheedandCambria your username made me feel old. The Suffering was almost 20 years ago😭

It shouldn't make you feel old, just very cool!

When I was 64 I could happily do up my bra. In the last two months something has happened and I can’t easily stretch my arm up behind my back to do up the strap 😱

Ditto ‘wipe back to front’ somewhere in my forties this became impossible

Enjoying wear full knickers, I got some by mistake, but they are so comfy. I recently had an ecg before an operation, asked to undo my bra and afterwards did I need help doing it up again, I’m 64 not 94. After operation and back in bed, nurse came to escort me to the toilet and sounded really astonished that I had managed to go all by myself.

What does it mean??

VictoriaEra · 14/09/2025 22:04

I’m at least twice the age of everyone in my WeWork.

Lou670 · 14/09/2025 21:59

Oh I don't feel too bad now for having a little table that is just for me! I always sit on one end of the sofa so have the table between the end of the sofa and the wall. It's brill! I currently have on it, a book, 2 pairs of glasses (yes, both short sighted and long sighted), a blood pressure machine (thought it was a good idea to get one!), my comb, my wax melt burner and a packet of dog treats!

Timeforabitofpeace · 14/09/2025 21:59

I’ve got a little basket with lid on my living room side table, for all of my essentials.

overstimulatedhermit · 14/09/2025 21:50

🤣🤣🤣🤣 actual tears running down my face right now. I’m so sorry

🤣 my friend thought it was funny too, then admitted hers did the same

Jowak1 · 14/09/2025 21:56

When your first born turns 18!

Beachtastic · 14/09/2025 21:54

I dread things falling under my desk just out of reach.

I have to wear reading glasses to pluck my eyebrows, and the glasses get in the way.

The eyebrows now sprout in odd directions (not quite Denis Healey but...)

No one nowadays goes "No!!!! Seriously?! You CAN'T be!!!!!" when I tell them my age. I'm still waiting optimistically for it, but it just never happens now 😕🤷🏻‍♀️
