I’ve noticed I’ve got a favourite seat in the living room and it’s accumulated a few of my things on and around it like my handbag, sweets, book, medication (because it’s the only thing that helps me remember to take it) a couple of letters that I opened and haven’t put away yet and a pack of baby wipes.
Dh is watching the game just now and I’ve sat down in my spot and accidentally knocked my medication off the armrest. I turned to dh and said “ do you know what would be handy, a little table next to me so I can put all my bits and bobs on” 🤦🏻‍♀️ my life flashed before my eyes before the words finished leaving my mouth. I’m 41 by the way how has nobody told me about this monumental moment.

When your baby turns 18

When you have a second 18 year old grandchild and later this year the first grandchild will be out of her teens.
Realising that we are a quarter the way through the 21st century yet we only celebrated the Millennium a couple of years ago, surely.

Having to ask ChatGPT what 6 7 means.

What does it mean? I said something about having 6 or 7 minutes to do a task to my Y10 class on Friday and they all started sniggering. I guessed it was something rude but I forgot about it until just now! They’re a nice class too.

Googling a symptom and having the initial rush of relief at "not usually serious..." replaced by a feeling of impending doom at "...although if you are over 50...."

ScribblingPixie · 14/09/2025 23:08

Having the over 50s offer pointed out to me at the garden centre without any hesitation or fear of causing offence.

Everywhere is too dark and too loud
I love buying plants at the supermarket
I have a favourite cardigan
if I go out without my reading glasses (Amazon purchase) DH has to read things for me
I’m considering purchasing a soup kettle
I’ve resisted myself to never going to an event where I can’t guarantee a seat
one of my favourite parts of Christmas is watching carols from kings (with baileys)

When I went for a routine eye test and the optician told me I'd got a cataract that met the threshold for surgery. Most of the people I know having cataract surgery are in their 80's. I'm 61.

I’m in my late 60s, my friends are a similar age, and most of us have had at least one eye done.

The devastating age thing for me is that an unmarried relative, who I think of as being only slightly older than I am, is going into a care home from choice. She’s been having carers in several times a day, but has decided she’ll be more comfortable in a home.

I've finally succumbed to a weekly pill box with7 days of morning, noon and night tablet holders as I kept getting muddled with my meds.
I also have a mobile phone that mysteriously disappears on a daily basis and ditto a kindle.
I spend my life looking for things that I've put in a safe place that I can't remember!
Bohe.ian Rhapsody is 50 years old! 50!
Faints.

Mine was realising I have to now take my glasses off to be able to read things close up. I didn't realise that not being able to focus close up happens to pretty much every one with age, I'm scared I might have to get varifocals! I'm 43!

I had to get varifocals last year, aged 40! 😱 always had crap eyesight , but that made me feel old…

It’s nice to be able to read labels again though!

TranceNation · 14/09/2025 22:37

42 years old; needing an early night/lie in Friday night/Saturday morning to recover from the week of work/running errands.

YouG0GlenCoco · 14/09/2025 22:35

Getting in the car and vibing to every song, then suddenly being hit with the 'back to back throwbacks' jingle in between!! The horror. Throwbacks are Abba and the BeeGees surely?!

What’s so funny? Eh? Eh? The alternative is getting down on my hunkers to eyeball the price label from a distance of 2 inches, and believe me that carries its own risks.

Yy to loads of these, including the bits and bobs tables (his and hers), bedside tables laden with tablets, Vick, hand cream etc. etc., old people’s noises (Oooh! Ahhh! Oof!) when getting up/sitting down/taking the first sip of any drink, naps (special neck cushion at corner of sofa), being out and about and realising all the places to eat are young people’s places with ordering by app/bowls instead of sensible plates, or no tableware at all/15 different sizes of order, with silly names/complicated food concepts when all you want is a toastie, etc.

Oh for fucky fucksake. Posting earlier in the evening and forgetting all about it, and posting nearly the exact same thing 4 hours later. Arse. Sorry.

Mindgoneblankagain · 14/09/2025 22:32

My knees, my hips, my face and, as of this morning, the grey hair that has suddenly sprouted from my chin. The beard and moustache have been coming in for a few years now but at least the had the decency to still be dark brown!

MassiveOvaryaction · 14/09/2025 19:26

Over recent years my hair has been admired and I've been asked where I get it done because it's the perfect shade of silver. One colleague asked me to go to the hairdresser with her so they could copy it exactly.

It's all bloody natural. I'm not even 50 yet.

The other hairdresser at the salon I go to, shouted over "tatt2 your colour is coming in lovely". I thought what on earth is she talking about? Yes, my greys. Lovely and even apparently.

Silverfoxette · 14/09/2025 22:31

I got into a taxi last week with a female friend and the driver said, hello beautiful lady where would you like to go? (To my friend). I felt so old and ugly and she’s older than me ☹️
