Is anyone feeling really cold now after the warm spring & summer we've had?

Just that - weather's been awful here for the last week or so and I've been thinking I'm suddenly feeling really cold! I don't normally feel this cold in the evenings before October and then I put the heating on 😅 Anyone feeling the same??

Where do you all live??

I’m in the south & I swam in my friend’s outdoor pool today then we sat outside with a cuppa (admittedly with DryRobes on)

Still wearing shorts out & about.

My mood has nose dived worryingly early. The cold weather makes me (properly) depressed. It’s not the dark, I don’t mind that as much, it’s the temperature. I can’t stand it and it’s worse every year. Even if I keep my house comfortable the fact it’s artificial heat (and not as warm as hot weather because I’m not made of money) I feel low and horrible. I can’t motivate myself to leave the house even to do fun things because it’s cold out there and I have to put on loads of uncomfortable layers and socks and shoes which I loathe. It’s such a performance and I’m miserable out there after. My life is basically shit for a good 6 months.

Yep definitely feeling cold 🥶 going to upgrade my duvet

I hate Summer but didn’t find it as hot this year as recent Summers, but this week has been bloody freezing and more like October/November weather. We already have the heating on as we have all been ill/continue to be ill this week.

Colds? We both started with absolute stinkers this week. DH has sinusitis and gets a lot of pain and inflammation when a cold hits. I had a diagnosis of asthma earlier in the year. It's mild in itself, but makes itself felt if I have a cold so I keep my reliever handy. I hope you feel better soon. 💐🍇

What warm spring / summer?
I’m in se where its been windy & cool most of the summer.

Ummm.....what?! It's been the hottest summer ever recorded.

I hate autumn/winter, I seem to have terrible circulation and my hands/feet are like blocks of ice from october-march, it's actually painful.

@RobinEllacotStrike

The highest temperature of the summer was 35.8C (96.4F), recorded at Faversham, Kent on 1 July.

This may seem relatively modest compared with some of the exceptional highs of previous years, including the record-breaking 40.3C (104.5F) recorded in July 2022.

However what is notable about this summer is how long-lasting and widespread the heat has been - with temperatures widely meeting heatwave criteria on four separate occasions.

The heat started early with a June heatwave which brought highs above 33C (91F) for the summer solstice.

The mercury then climbed again later in the month with Wimbledon seeing its hottest start to the tournament on record.

A brief cooler spell in early July was followed by a third heatwave which brought Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales their hottest weather of the year.

A fourth heatwave in August brought temperatures of 33.4C (92.1F) in parts of England, while 31.6C (88.9F) at Charterhall in the Borders, was Scotland's highest August temperature since 2003

The warmth was often accompanied by blue skies with sunshine amounts above average across most of the UK

Tortielady · 13/09/2025 22:25

We had some nice, sunny spells in the NE of England today, but when the sun went in, the wind really made itself felt. We don't have the heating on yet, but the lightweight duvet is back, after a period when it was banished in favour of a sheet. Depending on how things pan out, I think we'll have it till around mid-November, then switch to the heavyweight one.

In spite of a tendency to SAD, I prefer autumn and winter for the colours, the food, the more comfortable temperatures for exercise and mental effort and the fact that flies and wasps virtually disappear. And I love my hoodies and fluffy cabin socks ❤️❤️❤️🧦

GladioliGreen · 13/09/2025 22:25

I'm in Ireland and I swear we went straight from Summer into Winter. I wore shorts on my run earlier and my legs were feeling the chill. I've always been a cold creature though, it doesn't take much for me to pull out my heated throw and hibernate.

Yeah, was the same, and always seemed to have a cold! Weirdly started cold water swimming last year and actually enjoyed the colder weather, loved the sense of achievement from going. No bad colds all winter and felt a lot more positive about the colder days. Sounds counter productive but it reframed how I view the colder months.

I did it once (cold water swimming). Didn’t get warm again for about 3 days. Not for me. Since I can’t leave the house without multiple layers and hate swimming outdoors even in summer it was never going to be. Glad it works for you though.

Idontknownowwhat · 13/09/2025 22:20

Yep!
Was out earlier, cold got into me, came home had a hot bath and put the heating on, but I am a person who was made for warm weather. I'm like a shivering chihuahua by October.

I agree it’s changed so suddenly. I went shopping today and couldn’t believe how cold it felt, not freezing of course but the jacket which was enough 4 days ago wasn’t enough today. It was rainy and windy so maybe that’s why.
We are putting heating on already. Despite of my periodical perimenopausal hot flashes I still like warm house. I would rather cut on something else.

Bella2021 · 13/09/2025 22:14

I've still got the air conditioning on 😅 but I am always warm!

I can really relate @cardibach, I really struggled last winter and with the nights drawing in and the weather turning, I can feel my mood dipping.

I'm trying to get out and walk as much as I can and going to the gym 4 times a week as well. It’s hard though, it feels too early in the season to be feeling this way😢

We have a warm holiday planned for Feb which always helps but it’s a long time until then and I need to find some coping strategies.

Quite. I was determined to be more positive this year but 8m already scared by what my mood is doing.
Given what I and others have shared about mental health and the cold/dark, that’s a spectacularly insensitive comment @RoseAlone . Hope it made you feel good.

Newmeagain · 13/09/2025 22:10

Yes - I am in London and while it’s not freezing there has been a definite change - quite chilly in the morning and evening. My body doesn’t like changes in temperature - I keep sneezing and have been feeling cold.

RoseAlone · 13/09/2025 22:05

Loving it. Roll on proper winter.

cardi, same.
And the bloody county council have turned down all the street lights to save money. So I don't want to go out at all after dark in autumn and winter now.

SereneCoralDog · 13/09/2025 20:48

Fucking baltic and my washing is taking 5 business days to dry 😡

I spent most of this morning researching dehumidifiers then spent £105 on one which is coming on Monday. I'm hoping that helps with the washing issue but also making it feel slightly warmer without heating for at least another few weeks.

We rely on our dehumidifiers in spring and autumn, laundry wouldn't dry nicely without them but also it makes the house more comfortable. I also have a spare for moving around the upstairs rooms, and a 3rd for the downstairs rooms.

PruthePrune · 13/09/2025 21:55

Yup. Ive been wearing my Oodie for the past 2 days.

Thissickbeat · 13/09/2025 21:55

Yes!
I've got my heating on 22° as it's been so rainy and chilly the last week. A proper shock to the system.

IndigoBluey · 13/09/2025 21:54

It’s been 18 odd in Scotland so no I don’t think it has turned cold but it will this week

Peteryourhorseisheree · 13/09/2025 21:52

We are renovating.

The entire downstairs of my house has been stripped back to brick, two massive fireplaces exposed and the chimneys open, a flat roof extension was replaced last week so no insulation on the new roof yet, French doors have been ripped out and are boarded up for now, and all the floors are bare boards.

Please think of me, I’m cooold 😭😭

ShesTheAlbatross · 13/09/2025 21:48

I put on my fluffy bed socks last night.
