Political violence on the rise.

People are getting angry when people have Political views they don't agree with. Freedom of speech must be allowed not shutdown.

Tragic news of a young family man shot by someone today. Please remember he was a human with a family. Violence is never ok.

He seemed to be someone who wanted to shut down other people's free speech with violence.

Why are people so deluded that they think the far right = free speech? It just means that you are free to hear other people with the same views. They are fascists.

Only under a liberal society you get to hear a range of views.

I often disagreed with what Charlie Kirk said, but he was literally the opposite of that.

His whole mission was to discuss and debate pretty much anything. He always allowed the other person to put their view across, even if he was merciless in then countering views he disagreed with.

You may hate the Republicans in the US, but they are strong advocates of freedom of speech, more so than in the “liberal” UK when you can arrested for writing an insulting tweet as Graham Linehan discovered.

Shame you didn't see Charlie Kirk celebrating a politicians husband being attacked by a hammer, isnt it?

If you're going to champion political violence, you can't really complain when you fall victim to it.

If you're going to be happy that a completely law abiding man and father of young children who always called for rational debate was slaughtered by a lunatic it's actually quite safe - because nobody who is not a far leftist radicalised nutter would try to kill you for making those revolting fucking comments. Your cult is the danger.

We see you.

The radical left ARE the new facists. They have become the very thing they claim to hate. Reading any comments on dedications to Charlie Kirk shows just have low the ‘liberals’ have fallen. Just like when Trump was shot. It’s almost unnerving that they cannot see themselves

You can't be far left/fascist and liberal!

It's horrifying. It seems to be actual cult insanity. And, like most women on mumsnet, I voted left until a few years ago. They pretend not to believe that though. If you look up the BITE stages of cult indoctrination you will see that these awful, frightening savages fit the bill. The furthest right and the radicalised far left have met in the middle.

Imagine even thinking for one moment you should be pleased by a law abiding man who called for rational debate being slaughtered by a fucking maniac - and then having the actual nerve to smugly write that down in a post. JFC. They're terrible, horrible, frightening people.

Does your support of freedom of speech in the US include students protesting on campus against Israeli military action?

You’re conflating “freedom of speech” with “freedom to disrupt”. They are not the same.

Mustbethat · 11/09/2025 03:39

Charlie himself would have had to admit his death was an acceptable price to keep the 2A.

i wonder if his wife feels the same.

Two people died in a school in Columbus as well today. They did nothing wrong.

The reason why he is shot is irrelevant. america wants their guns. This is inevitable consequence.

i am still seeing people advocating for more guns. Arm everyone on university campuses. More guns would not have made a blind bit of difference, there were armed police, security, and no doubt armed members of the audience. Not one managed to stop this.

utah recently passed a law that means open carry is allowed on college campuses. This is the result.

And why do gun lovers in the US think they are so special that their society needs so many guns? Look at any other civilised country. Trouble is they would need to take their heads out of their asses first.

When gun advocates are shot, what can we say?

Sorry that a law abiding citizen and a father who always advocated for the law to be followed and debate to be pursued rationally was slaughtered by a filthy fucking maniac.

At least, that's what normal decent people are saying.

Are you seriously using a play on a word meaning learning disability as an insult? Disabilities are not shameful and they do not make people less than so using it as an insult is not ok.

Agreeing surprised at people appearing to think this is a consequence of having views they don't agree with.

What's wrong with people. Killing him as a politician on the right or a politician on the left is wrong.

Free speech must be upheld.

What politician killed him?

Shakeoffyourchains · 11/09/2025 05:06

FOJN · 11/09/2025 00:39

"What were you wearing?"

Was he asking for it?

Can you even hear yourself?

One could argue that saying, "freedom of speech doesn't mean freedom from consequence" is a statement which could encourage someone of unsound mind to commit acts of violence.

Ah, I just knew one of you would reply like this.

Deliberately making yourself a divisive public figure and becoming a target because of it is not remotely comparable to a woman being raped because of what she wears. The fact you’d even try to make that comparison is disgusting, though sadly not unexpected.

And before you clutch your pearls over the language being used here, maybe take five minutes to look at how Trump, Fox News, and the right on SM reacted to the attack on Paul Pelosi or the assassination of Melissa Hortman. The hate and bile that poured out then didn’t seem to bother you lot in the slightest. Funny how it’s only when the shoe is on the other foot that you suddenly discover outrage.

Where were you back in June when a two Democrats, their husbands and a dog were shot by a politically-motivated assassin? I hope that you condemned that in equal terms.

I do find it odd how much attention this one murder has attracted. There was yet another school shooting on the same day, but this man is the one deemed important enough to have flags lowered to half staff in his honour. Actual elected representatives didn’t get that but some Youtuber does, just as long as he's on the side of the regime?

That should have said "spouses", not husbands. Melissa Hortman and her husband were murdered, Jack Hoffmann and his wife were wounded.

The hateful Marxist Antifa crowd are really gloating on this thread, aren’t they. They really are dangerous and toxic.

Your imagination is working overtime.

An interesting diversion from Dmitry Medvedev, former Prime Minister of Russia and now Deputy Chair of the Security Council/propagandist. This tweet was sent a few hours ago and seems to blame Ukraine for the assassination. However, generally whatever Russia shift the responsibility to Ukraine for, their own hands tend to be dirty. It’s just a strange message to send.

“Political crimes and assasinations have been carried out lately by a variety of left-wing liberal scum who support Banderite Kiev. Fico, Kirk. Who's next? Maybe it's time for the MAGA team to realize that by supporting Ukraine, they're supporting murderers.”

And the radicalised far left are cheering and whooping. This is the face of the tolerant, progressive far leftists.

And every single person on mumsnet or in any country anywhere else who has ever screamed RACISTS BIGOTS NAZIS! online at a person flying a flag or saying "actually I don't think we can sustain millions of immigrants and am worried about the uptick in violence in my town" shares some responsibility for this shooting. All. Of. You.

I see the vicious monsters in this thread trying to somehow justify this horrific act.

It doesn't matter where you are when you scream these abusive, nonsensical statements online. You feed the frenzy of radicalised far leftists who simply WILL NOT ALLOW anybody to speak words they hate.

This man was always pro law pro debate.

Not to mention the irony of the ones who are keen on gun control are now cheering on a monster who slaughtered a young husband and father - with a gun.

Oh and if you make any assumptions at all about me based on this post it says a LOT about you and nothing at all about me. Only an aggressive, radicalised far left loon would find anything I just said offensive or triggering.

Edited

No one in this thread is cheering Charlie Kirk’s death.
It is more than unreasonable to lay blame on anyone other than the shooter for his death. Shame on you.
It is perfectly reasonable to say that CK was a controversial figure. He wasn’t a fluffy teddy bear, was he? Why would an inoffensive person be targeted at all?

Tonight has confirmed to me that greatest threat to democracy and freedom of speech comes from the left and not the right.

Not a big thinker, then?

VoulezVouz · 11/09/2025 02:44

hamstersarse · 10/09/2025 23:34

People keep saying this but it’s not unusual to be anti abortion. Or support gun ownership. Many many people see gun ownership as necessary to ensure the government can be defended against if necessary, which is how CK could say the thing everyone is holding against him in a pretty gross way. He was looking at a purpose beyond just the immediate

it’s pretty ironic given the dramatic declarations of Trump being some sort of dictator, you’d think if you thought that you’d understand the argument for gun ownership….but alas joined up thinking is not a character trait of the left.

To say he held abhorrent views is a stretch

He was a tool of Trump’s. That’s it. That’s the really sad thing. He made his living grifting and promoting every idea and thought of Trump’s. Ultimately, it led to his death. I’m sorry for his wife and children.
