Political violence on the rise.

People are getting angry when people have Political views they don't agree with. Freedom of speech must be allowed not shutdown.

Tragic news of a young family man shot by someone today. Please remember he was a human with a family. Violence is never ok.

The left progressives are now the fascists.

No, the fascists are the fascists. They are increasingly powerful across the globe. It is of great concern.

LuckySpark · 11/09/2025 17:47

Yes, directly (or sort of directly) quoting what he said, but devoid of context, nuance or any attempt or wish to understand (in good faith) what lead to him saying that particular thing in that particular moment.

It is pretty much what people did who came to challenge him on campuses.

How ironic that you talk of hiding threads by people who hold a different opinion to your own, and in the same breath you're whining about "the left" who can't tolerate any views different to their own...

I'm sorry, who is it that's hiding threads because they can't tolerate any views except their own again, therefore creating themselves an echo chamber...?

There is no irony or lack of 'self awareness.' (as the poster @Locutus2000 stated!) I do listen to other peoples points of view. (Who I may not agree with!) Until they start hurling their predictable leftie insults and vitriol, when people DARE to think differently to them!!! Wink Then I start ignoring them, because I CBA with the childish and predictable tantrums.

Re: hiding a few threads. YES, when the same load of drivel about the SAME SUBJECT (the England flags!) is repeated on 30 threads in about 3 weeks, day after day after DAY, same wording, same tedious insults, and vitriol and barbed comments (from lefties) aimed at people who don't think like them, it gets boring.

So yes, I hide the bashing the flag threads now, because I don't need to see the same bullshit drivel 30 times in 3 weeks. Those are the only ones I am hiding because I am sick to the back teeth of seeing them. Lefties must be so narrow-minded and lacking imagination so much, if they have to keep repeating the same shite!

HTH.

When JKR speaks simple biology she has often got threats of violence and rape threats. Violence is never the way. Some debate and others use violence when they arguments don't win.

I fear for JKR. She has been a brilliant advocate for women and girls rights, has spoken truth and common sense when so many people refuse to and has been vilified in the media. I hope none of these crazies touch her

Which is new information that the PP had no access to at 6am this morning, therefore her claim was speculation.

I don’t think at any part I was writing a report or paper where I had to provide sources and references when I wrote my post at 6am this morning. I was shocked and reeling by this terrible news and also shocked by some of the posts dripping with ‘served him right’ kind of messages.

if this article is true, then my hunch that he eas killed for what he has said and believes was correct. This is absolutely awful.

Rest in peace Charlie, rest in peace freedom of speech

You see, you have done precisely what many others have done on this thread - misrepresenting what was said. I did not say he was a 'great guy' but that is your spin. Spin seems to irritate the spinner.

Re your other point, I'll let you into a well known secret that you may not have heard of - it's called interested research!

I didn't misrepresent anything.

In your rush to condemn people for speaking "untruths", you seem to have missed his racism, misogyny and homophobia during your extensive research over the last ... What, 1-2 hours?

You do realize people are directly quoting the things he's said, right?

Auroraloves · 11/09/2025 17:25

DdraigGoch · 11/09/2025 16:12

You appear to have a rather selective memory. This was what you wrote:

... the fact that he was murdered in such a prominent way for speaking his views...

You included the claim in not just the same sentence, but the same clause. You even emphasised it. That is a clear, unsubstantiated claim that the motivation was his views.

Why are you so obsessed with what I write? Whatever I have said or think, it doesn’t change the fact that a man was brutally assassinated in front of of wife and children.

I think he was murdered due to his views, some of which I agree with, some of which I don’t. There, now bother someone else.

Kirk’s beliefs exactly.

Interesting this one, the whole empathy thing. It asks us to come to another's experience on an equitable footing, walk a mile in another's shoes so to speak. The gentleman in question believes this to be a damaging and New Age concept.

Kirk (who had also passed me by as aside from MN, I only visit Facebook to keep tabs on friends and local news) apparently preferred sympathy, which is a bit more hierarchical. (And can, from experience, be somewhat smug.)

Makes sense, given his political stance.

So you never heard of him before last night but you know he was a great guy and people are speaking untruths? Based on what?

Utah DPS Commissioner Beau Mason told reporters the suspect “appears to be of college age" and had “blended in well with the college institution."

FBI officials have confirmed that the ammunition used to kill Charlie Kirk had messages engraved on them. It comes after a breakthrough was revealed by the FBI that the weapon used in the deadly shooting had been recovered. The Wall Street Journal quotes a source as saying the ammunition was engraved with 'messages of transgender and antifascist ideology.

Interestingly:

"Kirk was speaking to students at the university, and had answered questions about transgender individuals who had been involved in mass shootings moments before he was assassinated, after answering a question about gun violence.
He was asked: "Do you know how many transgender Americans have been mass shooters over the last 10 years?" and Kirk replied: "Too many."
They then asked: "Do you know how many mass shooters there have been in America over the last 10 years?" to which Kirk answered, "Counting or not counting gang violence?" and he was shot seconds later.
The search for his killer continues."

Surely the answer to "Do you know how many mass shooters there have been in America over the last 10 years?" should also have been "Too many".

But I suppose saying there been too many mass shooters didn't fit in with his pro-gun views.

Nasty is an opinion though and freedom of speech means freedom for everyone. The right to offend is for everyone. Not everyone—until you’re offended.

ok celebrates harm then - to anyone that is. Comments removed have been for celebrating a death of a person. You may not like him, you may not like his views but kill him or celebrate his death isn't really acceptable in a society that perhaps doesn.t want more killings. Why celebrate, just say nothing. We have seen on the threads people joyous because a husband and father was murdered. What sort of person does that.

Ahh so he's guilty of being wealthy as well?

No wonder you dislike him so much.

I disliked him for his extreme views, for his misogyny, his homophobia, for his evangelical stance on pretty much everything, his comparing abortion rights to the Holocaust, for his support of a lack of gun control, for not thinking empathy is something important in the world, for his apparent champion of ‘free speech’ while shouting down any opinion different to his own… the fact that he’s made a lot of money from being a click bait pundit, well that just makes me question his motives.

vessel of god, or another self serving, power hungry man out to make as much as he can from being ‘controversial’? Perhaps he actually believed everything he said. Perhaps he didn’t, perhaps his extreme evangelical stance was a sign of MH issues. Whichever way you cut it though, he made a LOT of money shouting at other people.

Prior to his cold-blooded murder in front of his wife and two young children, I'd never previously heard of Charlie Kirk, aged only 31. His name will now enter the history books.

This thread has been illuminating, but many of the words of untruth spoken about Charlie are not surprising. He appears to me to have been a man who spoke his thoughts and ideas with conviction and passion, but was equally passionate about hearing and discussing opposing views with grace and good humour.

I hope he is now at peace with the God he believed in. I hope those who loved him most will find the peace that passes all understanding, as they deal with the horror they witnessed, and the sudden violent death of their daddy, husband, son, friend. In his words: "When you stop having a human connection with someone you disagree with, it becomes a lot easier to want to commit violence against that group person"

So you never heard of him before last night but you know he was a great guy and people are speaking untruths? Based on what?

for posters who thought shooter could be anyone when some suggested shot for his views. CNN has sparked fury among Americans for avoiding reference to the 'transgender messages' found on bullets inside the rifle used by Charlie Kirk's assassin.
The left-wing outlet instead referred to the engravings as 'a range of phrases related to cultural issues' to avoid confronting what was really inscribed."

Basically messages to indicate why the coward shot a bloke talking to students.

Has the information about the messages been verified by an official source? The only place I can find directly reporting them is the WSJ, which refers to unnamed sources. Other news outlets are referencing the WSJ.

According to the Independent, the FBI has refused to comment on this point at this time.

Wait— doesn’t that writer have freedom of speech? Why should he be fired.

Freedom of speech yes. We all have different opinions and express them. Celebrating someone's death on either right leaning or left leaning no, that's just pure nasty. I think that's why some comments are deleted, they are plain nasty or personal or hate filled rather than freedom of speech - go look up the difference it you are unsure. It's a woman writer (I think)

DC cancels new comic book series the same day it launches after writer 'celebrates' Charlie Kirk's death

The dramatic move came after its writer, Gretchen Felker-Martin, appeared to celebrate the death of right-wing commentator Kirk, who was gunned down during an event at Utah Valley University on Wednesday. She wrote: 'Thoughts and prayers you Nazi b' and 'Hope the bullet's okay after touching Charlie.'

Celebration of a death isn't particularly anything to be proud of. What a 'delightful' person this writer is.
