Teacher told my child that child is not a Muslim

My daughter has recently started reception and asked me today if our family are Muslims, to which I said yes. She then started crying saying her teacher told her that she (my daughter) is not a Muslim. Is it unreasonable to be angry about this?

It probably wasn't done with any malice. If the child doesn't know they're Muslim by Reception age then it obviously doesn't feature enough in their lives for a teacher to pick up on it.

4 year olds are notoriously bad at remembering and understanding conversations.

maybe check with the teacher that is what she actually said?

my child went into his reception class one morning and told the teacher he’d had rum for breakfast. (He was pretending to be a pirate)

Ermmm, maybe just speak to the teacher?

I highly doubt a teacher said to a 4 year old 'no, you're not a muslim'. I would be very willing to bet there has been some wires crossed here. Maybe she said she herself (teacher) was not a Muslim.

Ask the teacher. It’s very possible your daughter has got her wires crossed.

Well I wouldn’t take the word of a four year old straight off. If it’s that upsetting to you check with the teacher.

missmollygreen · 10/09/2025 20:47

I probably would not be angry until I knew some context for this conversation.

Hadalifeonce · 10/09/2025 20:47

I would try to clarify what the teacher actually said before you get angry. At 4/5 years old, children often misunderstand what they are being told.

Speak to the teacher and find out their side

Zov · 10/09/2025 20:47

Well, why don't you ask the teacher why they said this? Confused

That sounds odd.
