To the flag flyers

Let me tell you about a guy named Amir…

Amir fled Syria after his home was bombed and several family members were killed. He didn’t come to the UK for handouts — he came to survive. He arrived in the UK through the government’s refugee resettlement scheme with barely anything. No English, no money — just his life.
His first job? Cleaning tables at a café in Leeds. He worked 6 days a week, took evening English classes, and volunteered at a local food bank just to feel useful.

Fast forward a few years — Amir now runs a small catering business with his wife. They specialise in Syrian street food, and it’s actually doing really well. He employs 10 people — all locals — and he gives free meals to NHS staff on Fridays as a thank-you to the country that took him in.

The most British thing about Amir? He watches Match of the Day religiously and complains about the rain more than anyone I know.

Look, I get it — people worry about immigration, jobs, safety. But most refugees like Amir aren’t a threat. They’re people who’ve lost everything and just want to build a life — and when they’re given the chance, they often give back far more than they take.
Isn’t that the kind of country we want to be — one that offers safety, but also benefits from the talents and hard work of those who come here?

If your family had to flee war, wouldn’t you want another country to treat them with basic decency?

Couldn't agree with this more!

While Farage & Co have been busy kicking up a stink over the summer, the number of people waiting with unprocessed applications is lower than it was during peak Tory incompetence & he didn't say or do anything about it then.

Equally, every man who sexually assaults or rapes a woman in this country should be pursued to the full extent of the law. Unfortunately, around 80 THOUSAND of the homegrown ones a year are never prosecuted.

Where's Farage's outrage about THAT?!?

💯!!!!

So do you think we should kick ALL men out then in that case @hamstersarse- they are busy murdering one woman every 3 days - but mostly those are the ones we live with or are related to 🤷🏻‍♀️

I have thought this for a while now; the reason we need controlled immigration is for people like Amir.

There are genuine people that really need our help, the numbers of those people are being diluted by huge numbers of economic migrants who do not genuinely need our help. This means we are helping the genuine people much slower than we would like to.

So anything we can do to dissuade economic migrants who come in illegally so that we have more opportunity to help genuine people the better in my view.

Controlled Immigration is our way of offering timely help and compassion in people’s time of need for those that really need it.

Sounds like they're slacking a bit. Middle eastern immigrants managed to sexually assault 1200 German women in one night.

Oh no, a heart tugging story about an immigrant. We must ensure we allow endless infinity immigration so your friend doesn't feel sad.

Were you a bully at school dear?

If the left were willing to show the flag, fly the flag, take back the flag earlier we would not be having it in the hands of the jelly belly flag drapers (Rudyard Kipling ---- ooooh a rathist).
But no, the left shat themselves and ran. Billy Bragg said in the 80s that the left surrendered the flag - he might not be correct on everything but he was right on this. Take back the flag. Fly it from mosques, from kebab shops.

Quite possibly the most ridiculous thread I’ve ever read on here!

Oooh I've just spotted my first ever AI post.

It's true what they say, they're very obvious when you know.

Very few sensible people doubt that there are genuine asylum seekers who will integrate well into Britain, work hard and contribute.

That doesn’t mean the asylum system isn’t a total shambles, that the problem of small boats doesn’t need to be urgently and robustly addressed, or that all people arriving in Britain are hardworking doctors, engineers, etc.

DiscontentedPig · 09/09/2025 18:27

For a while now, it's been difficult to discuss a whole load of political issues, because of the "ah yes, but when you say that, what you really mean is..." argument. From all sides of the political landscape.

Ah yes, but when you say you want better public transport, what you mean is I shouldn't be allowed to own a car.

Ah yes, but when you say you're proud of your country what you mean is you want anyone foreign-looking to be kicked out.

Ah yes, but when you say people who hang flags on random lamposts are idiots, what you mean is we should all be ashamed of our country.

And so on.

Simplestars · 09/09/2025 18:15

The flags are designed to spread division and intimidate people, nothing British to be proud of here!

Do you personally know Amir

@MissMoneyFairy , I’m rather doubtful of the actual existence of Amir…

Mosques are asking people to help people put up flags if they seem them clambering lamp posts.

They are also flying them from Mosques etc.
Wonder if the flag flyers will be happy with this extra help?

GiantTeddyIsTired · 09/09/2025 17:00

OP, do you go to other countries and pose these questions? I bet you could have some stimulating conversations at a pub in Dublin or Edinburgh if you suggested that they stop flying the Tricolour/Saltire because it makes you feel unwelcome.

Simplestars · 09/09/2025 17:00

The flags will begin to look shabby after few months and harsh weather.
Wonder if the proud flyers will replace or let them rot?

FrippEnos · 09/09/2025 16:58

damemaggiescurledupperlip · 09/09/2025 16:31

It might be a good idea for all the Amirs to fly the flag. Nothing would make the far right disdain it quicker - so it would become once more what it should be, something for those who love England and want to show that

This ^

Amir and co, flying the flag in their shops, from their mosques etc. would be a statement of epic proportions.

Muffinmam · 09/09/2025 16:57

What on earth are you talking about??

Dweetfidilove · 09/09/2025 16:55

AnneLovesGilbert · 09/09/2025 16:27

Is Amir against the English or U.K. flags in some way? You missed that out if it’s the case. He chose to come here, he presumably accepts our flags.

Amir has likely also spent thousands becoming a British citizen and has no problem with the/his British flag.
Not that it will mean anything to those weaponising the flag.
