What would your husband say if he came home from work and you’d had a drink?

I have had a glass of wine tonight after work, thought why not?
Dh is home and is furious, speaking to me like a disgrace and slamming cupboards.
I now have an uncomfortable silence which isn’t quite a silence because he’s saying he’s not giving me the silent treatment.

He’d probably say “tough day then” or “on the sauce I see” with a bit of a raised eyebrow. But certainly wouldn’t be cross. He’s less likely than me to drink on a weeknight but it wouldn’t be unknown for either of us.

Cerialkiller · 08/09/2025 18:59

He'd say 'what a lush! ' then go upstairs for a shower and would never mention it again.
I barely drink though.

It would depend. If it was a hot day and I was in the garden having a wine or beer he wouldn’t say anything. If I was just indoors drinking or on spirits he’d probably check if my day had been ok. He wouldn’t be angry but maybe a bit concerned as it would be out of character.

If my DH reacted like yours has, I’d laugh at him and pour myself another. What’s his problem exactly? Is he against drinking completely? Does he think you’re an alcoholic? Or is he just being controlling?

W0tnow · 08/09/2025 18:58

Nothing. Nothing at all. He may pour himself one, he may not. It wouldn’t be a thing. I’ve never had a problem with alcohol though. That’s the only reason I could think of for a reaction like that?

He’d probably join me. Is he controlling in other ways?

No but it is a bit unusual for me to have a drink without him

"That looks nice, think I'll have one too, cheers!"

RedFatball · 08/09/2025 18:57

He doesn't drink in the house but doesn't care if I do unless it means I can't drive when I would need to

Samas · 08/09/2025 18:57

SquirrelsInSpace · 08/09/2025 18:57

Yikes. That's not OK. I drink when I want to drink.

Wowzel · 08/09/2025 18:57

He definitely wouldn't behave like that, but he'd be very surprised as I don't drink much

Nicksschiffon · 08/09/2025 18:56

'Pour me one then' or something to that effect

khlolea · 08/09/2025 18:56

For context Dh would never drInk on a work night
