Upset about new top

BykeP · 06/09/2025 13:57

I bought what I thought was a lovely new top, it’s black, fluffy and sleeveless. DH thinks I look like Betty Rubble from the Flintstones and keeps saying Yabba Dabba Do every time I enter the room.

I don’t think this is funny but he won’t stop laughing. I said he is offending me and I find his comments hurtful but he said it’s too funny to stop.

I refuse to change my top but I think he is unreasonable? I can’t listen to Yabba Dabba Do anymore or be called Betty

Just remembered another one.. DH bought me a beautiful sheepskin coat/ jacket, the real deal, it was so warm in a harsh winter.
However he did start calling me John Motson when I wore it!!

If my husband said something like that, I'd think he's an idiot.

Wexone · 06/09/2025 18:57

God if I got offended every time my husband made a smart comment about what I wore I wouldn't wear anything at ll 🙈🤣 I wore a fab wide leg trousers and sleeveless top to work other day yes it was all black - are you going to a funeral he says ? I said well it's my day in the office so kinda is and laughed. today wearing a nice bright jumper - I should be working for the council 😩🤣 I just laugh it off

I get that it isnt for you or I, but if OP is hurt by something and her partner continues to do it then it can become a LTB issue. There is no way I could be in a relationship with a man who did not respect me and chose to hurt me. What OP is hurt over isn’t really the problem here, it’s the man who continues to do it.

I agree with you. From the voting however posters seem to have a very low bar for their partners.

but he said it’s too funny to stop.

Even if that were true things constantly repeated get unfunny pretty quickly.

Toooldtopretend · 06/09/2025 18:39

Or maybe people should lighten up. Not everything is a LTB issue!

pictoosh · 06/09/2025 18:51

This is the thing - doesn't matter what the joke is...once someone (anyone) has expressed embarrassment or hurt, you let it drop, even if you do find it funny.

Personally speaking, I think the Flintstones "Betty" pisstake is pretty basic.
To keep on with it was moronic.
I'm just not a 'point and laugh' sort of person.

PinkiOcelot · 06/09/2025 18:50

Sorry but 🤣.
If that was my DH though, I’d probably reply something like you’re hilarious you. Should be on the stage.
I’d still wear the top if I really liked it as well.

swimlyn · 06/09/2025 18:48

“I don’t think this is funny but he won’t stop laughing. I said he is offending me and I find his comments hurtful but he said it’s too funny to stop.”

Essentially he's an idiot who doesn't mind upsetting you for the sake of his childish sense of humour.

Entirely up to you what you do about it.

If everything else is absolutely perfect in your relationship, I’d have a long conversation with him about him deliberately hurting you like this.

Chompingatthebeat · 06/09/2025 18:43

So he's making no-one laugh and yet he persists? What a delightful man

Sorry OP but I'm finding this far funnier than it ought to be. My DH wants to know why Im laughing so much
Yabbadabba doooooo 😅

Really?

It doesn’t matter. The point is it did bother OP even if it wouldn’t bother you or I.

In any scenario we are all different with what we are happy with but if you specifically ask your partner to stop something because it hurts you and he doesn’t, the issue is far bigger.

Well, it takes all sorts.

I'm just very glad I'm married to a man who can take the piss out of himself and doesn't take himself too seriously.

Toooldtopretend · 06/09/2025 18:39

maxisback · 06/09/2025 18:24

Would it still be funny if you asked him to stop because you were hurt by it and he didn’t?

that’s the difference

Wasn't sure what wording to use.

I think it goes beyond a piss take when the person has been asked to stop though.

Especially when it's supposed to be someone who cares about you.

I guess I just think that not everything has to be so serious.

DH and I often wind each other up and take the piss - if I really want to annoy him I just ignore his attempts at annoying me.

It must be nice to be so easily amused.

bumblebramble · 06/09/2025 18:31

Sympathy op. I’m also married to a man with zero sense of style.

Years ago when trench coats made a come back I thought I was channelling the Parisian Chic vibe until my dh told me I looked like Columbo.

Toooldtopretend · 06/09/2025 18:29

Gowlett · 06/09/2025 16:25

My friend was shopping with her DH once, and the friend was very excited to show him a very expensive white puffa coat she’d had her eye on (potential Christmas gift) & he just said “snowman”. She ripped it off, and never went back to the shop!

Edited

Better before than after purchase. Sounds more East 17 to me though!

If I ever found myself genuinely hurt by a comment like that, I'd be taking a long hard look at myself, tbh.

Do you really see a bit of piss-taking as a "put down"?

I have a pleated leather look skirt and my OH rasps “Hey Batman” anytime I wear it. It’s funny.

I’d have thought more of a Roman Soldier 🤣 does Batman wear a skirt ? 🤣

I have a couple of pairs of dungarees, when I wear them DH starts singing “Come on Eileen” or doing violin actions. I find it very funny and we both laugh, guess it’s different if it doesn’t amuse you though…

😂😂Love this.

My DH do silly mickey taking all the time. I bought some Pj's once that were too big for me. But me being me still wore them even though they were baggy. However, they sagged between my legs sometimes and when they did my DH used to sing 'You can't touch this' and do the MC Hammer dance. We both laugh at stuff like this all the time.

@CalzoneOnLegsit made me laugh a lot at the time, it wasn't hurtful at all. I thought this was a light-hearted thread 😂😂

Light heartedness and a sense of humour do not feature in the lives of some. Instead, they choose to take offence at the slightest thing.

It must be bloody hard work being so serious (and offended!!)
