Upset about new top

BykeP · 06/09/2025 13:57

I bought what I thought was a lovely new top, it’s black, fluffy and sleeveless. DH thinks I look like Betty Rubble from the Flintstones and keeps saying Yabba Dabba Do every time I enter the room.

I don’t think this is funny but he won’t stop laughing. I said he is offending me and I find his comments hurtful but he said it’s too funny to stop.

I refuse to change my top but I think he is unreasonable? I can’t listen to Yabba Dabba Do anymore or be called Betty

Can we see a pic of you in the top. Please? We can then say he’s an arse and it’s lovely, or tell you he has a point and you do resemble Barney,

My husband had a hideous shirt in the early days that I used to shout “one hundred and eighty” when he wore it. It was like a shirt you’d wear to play darts.

I have been slagged for wearing an all in one PJ set that made me look like a giant rabbit apparently.

Id find it funny but would stop if the other person was upset.

😀

Yes, I wouldn't mock anyone, especially if they were clearly sensitive about something. But clothes are just clothes, and some are funny.

Oh god I do this sort of thing to DP all the time. 'Ian Beale, as I live and breathe!' for a particularly hideous striped polo shirt, for example. Is it really cruel?

🤣 I think you and I can be friends!🙌
I don’t find it cruel, it’s a gentle mickey- take that’s all.

GreyCarpet · 06/09/2025 15:15

OP, what is it about the joke that upsets you specifically?

NooNakedJacuzziness · 06/09/2025 15:12

Tell him he looks like Bam Bam and when he asks why smack him upside the head twice

Velmy · 06/09/2025 15:09

I'm with your DH on this one 😄

I had a black and white houndstooth check jacket in the early 90s… very smart. Princess Diana also had one. My DH and DS decided they didn’t like it, so it was known as the Jacket From Hell - I deliberately wore it to DSs school concert.😁
There were the Aladdin trousers from 1983 ( comments about magic carpets and rubbing lamps all evening ). and a cream leather coat with a large faux fur cream collar - I was known as ZsaZsa Gabor when I wore that.

I take no notice at all OP, it’s just mickey taking, and my DH & DS were champions at it!

Sounds like your DH and I have a similar sense of humour, thing is I’d be saying it about myself and my friends and family would join in. It only funny if everyone finds it funny

smallpinecone · 06/09/2025 14:56

Hahaha 🤣 Team DH.

Is he this unpleasant in other ways?

Yes you’re right but he thought it was inappropriate to call me Barney! It was fine first thing as I was wearing a cardigan so he assumed it had sleeves but when I removed my cardigan he almost fell off the stool at the breakfast bar as clearly I represent one of the Flintstones.

Change your name to Wilma?

He originally started with Wilma then said he didn’t particularly like the character so decided I was Betty instead.

BluePearOntheRocks · 06/09/2025 14:35

he should stop, because it's completely immature and off putting to repeat a non-funny joke

but you are BU to be hurt and offended. It's only a top, why are you taking it so personally?

You are both ridiculous

maxisback · 06/09/2025 14:34

He sounds like a right catch

Purplecatshopaholic · 06/09/2025 14:32

Sounds a bit like my OH. If I wear a little bit of animal print he starts asking me for a pint of bitter. Thinks it’s hilarious. I’ve never watched Coronation Street so didn’t get it but I know the character he means. Gets very tiresome!

Gowlett · 06/09/2025 14:24

I used to wear a far more quirky wardrobe before I had DS.
Now whenever I like something loud, DH says “crazy cat lady”

My DH calls me beetlejiuce or the hamburlger whenever i wear stripes, i just ignore him!!

Dorb · 06/09/2025 14:10

You made me laugh OP! But we do need to see the offending article…

SliceofTosst · 06/09/2025 14:09

Sorry OP but it's funny. What isn't funny though is him repeating it.

If I liked a top and DH jokes, I'd not care what he thought. Just style it out.

HelloGreen · 06/09/2025 14:09

I don’t get all women who put up with men who shit on them.

If only one of you is laughing then it’s not a joke.

HelpMeGetThrough · 06/09/2025 14:09

Change your name to Wilma?

CalzoneOnLegs · 06/09/2025 14:08

@TimClaypole because it made me laugh ? The husbands comment that is not the OP’s distress - glad we cleared that up
