People just turning up at house

I feel like this may be a mixture of being on my period and having only managed to get to sleep at 4:30am last night but I digress...

my FIL and BIL just turned up completely out of the blue to our house. I was slobbing on the sofa in my pajamas with unwashed hair, the kids aren't dressed - generally our house is fairly tidy most of the time but I had a busy day out with the kids yesterday and
got back late so the kitchen is a mess and it's just not "guest" ready.

It was one of those really personal moments where I felt so comfortable just slobbing around with my own little family and we were all happy doing our own thing and now I have to suddenly be "on" as well as worrying about being judged for my hairy legs etc 🤣

Am I being unreasonable for feeling really irritated? I could very will be and will accept it if I am... it's not early in the morning, we're all pretty close and I get on with them very well I just could have done with a heads up y'know?

Just to add they did a little knock and walked straight in so I was literally lying on the sofa like a goblin when they came in the living room

That is so intrusive!

And it's one reason why I'd never have a front door that people can just open and walk in.

Why can’t people call or text first? I’ve never understood that. Is it to catch you on the hop? Piss off. F rude

Apocketfilledwithposies · 06/09/2025 13:16

Sometimes I think I'm too introverted and rigid, then I read stuff like this where your fil and bil come round unannounced, do a little knock and WALK RIGHT IN and think, thank fuck my friends and family know to only call me if someone is on death's door or dead, and never ever come by unannounced.

Time for a latch on inside of the front door op.

I used to work from home from the early 2000s up to lockdown so had to have firm boundaries or people (by people I mainly mean one particularly pushy relative) would try and turn up like this.

If you state your boundaries people only do this shit once!!

You are only being unreasonable if you don’t casually ask them to give you a heads up when they are popping over in future.

Indianajet · 06/09/2025 13:15

What time was it?
I am quite relaxed about family/friends popping in, after about 10.00 a.m. so I have had my first coffee.

I wouldn’t mind but then to be fair the only people who would ever knock on my door are people who I truly would have no issue with being there anyway.

If PIL were at the door I’d feel differently, but for them to turn up at the door the world would have to be ending so I’d have bigger worries😂

Infuriating and inconsiderate

I think this is why people don’t answer the door

Not at all I had the same thing happened yesterday after a really long day at work and I got home and my son was talking to me about his problems then my mother was on the phone talking to me as well and I was trying to ship dinner then there was a knock at the door and it was somebody I haven’t seen for months who just decided to pop by for a catch up And I spent two hours sitting on my sofa listening to her and internally screaming for her to get the hell out of my house

It's so annoying isn't it?!

I feel bad because if it was my mum or dad I wouldn't care at all. But then I suppose I don't care at all what state they see me in as they've definitely seen me worse! 🤣

That should say I was trying to dish up dinner
