To think our wedding might be massive failure?!

Hey guys, name change for this...

Will our wedding in a few weeks be a total disaster? The plan for the day:

  1. A morning, Christian ceremony in a rural village church with around 40 adults and 10 children. Our two children will also be in attendance (our DD is only 18 months, very clingy and will likely need to walk down the aisle with me...)

  2. A 40 minute drive to a rural pub located in the middle of a national park

  3. A sit down, relatively casual 2 course meal there (I think a few people want to say a few words but we haven't planned for it as such)

  4. A 20 minute drive to the final venue where guests who are staying will be with us. It has wild swimming in a natural lake, fire pits, hot tubs, and we've got a pizza van coming for evening food and alcohol will be there for when we arrive.

  5. No music is allowed at the final venue (eeeeek). We aren't party animals and I want an early night due to small children, so I'm hoping this might work in our favour? Or is it really boring?!

  6. For the following morning I have arranged for a caterer to come and provide breakfast, leaving for 10:00.

Does this sound okay to you? We are really panicking that it'll be a bit crap due to multiple venues, driving, children and no real plan!!!

EDIT:

You are being unreasonable - it will be fine
You are not being unreasonable - crikey, what a terrible plan that is

Your wedding sounds absolutely perfect to me. I would love to get an invite to a wedding like this. Hope you have a wonderful day❤

Digdongdoo · 05/09/2025 20:33

I'm sure it won't be a flop. But a lot of driving between venues, people won't be able to drink at the pub. And outdoors in October is questionable weatherwise. But it's your wedding, you're allowed to do what you want.

WonderingWanda · 05/09/2025 20:33

It sounds like a lovely day.

Kary26 · 05/09/2025 20:31

Won't it be a bit cold for swimming? The final venue sounds lovely but is there a bad weather back up plan?
I don't see the travel as problematic. I've been to a wedding where the church was in the bride's home village and the reception 40 mins away near their new home and everyone drove with no problems.

WhineAndWine1 · 05/09/2025 20:31

Not the sort of wedding I would be keen to attend but it’s your day so you do what you will enjoy.

Hoppinggreen · 05/09/2025 20:30

Lots of driving but I don't drink really so I wouldn't mind and the final venue sounds lovely
I am old and boring but I would be quite happy (and relieved) to go to bed by 10pm

It's beautiful if I'm honest. Quirky but very luxury.

Am thinking shepherd's huts/wooden cabins/old buses?
As long as have roof, a real bed, warm and a proper bathroom, who could complain?

DemBonesDemBones · 05/09/2025 20:30

I would really love to be a guest at a wedding like this! Have a wonderful day.

Movinghouseatlast · 05/09/2025 20:30

Sounds fab!

We planned our wedding in a month. The registry office was too far away, it rained ( after 2 months of glorious sunshine) so we couldn't do what we'd planned for after the dinner. It was an amazing day, everyone loved it!

DisforDarkChocolate · 05/09/2025 20:29

It sounds beautiful, and not providing transport is fine.

WaltzingWaters · 05/09/2025 20:29

The lack of music would be my worry. But then I love a dance at a wedding. But if it’s clear what the plan is and everyone is happy with it, then it’ll be fine. All people you love and who love you, they’ll enjoy celebrating with you no matter what.

MarxistMags · 05/09/2025 20:29

I think it sounds fabulous 😋
But the 40ty minute drive....hmm 🤔
Could you arrange a coach ?

What's the sleeping accommodation like?

It's beautiful if I'm honest. Quirky but very luxury.

If the pub is on the way and there's no issue with parking anywhere and everyone has a seat at rhevtable and a bed to sleep in then I think it sounds great.

The final venue sounds lovely.

Have a great day.

Can I come?

(I'm going to a really formal traditional wedding in a couple of weeks which sounds a lot less fun than yours)

Hairshare · 05/09/2025 20:27

The individual things are good but there will be a lot of driving around, and probably hanging around too.

Toddlerteaplease · 05/09/2025 20:27

Sounds perfect! Especially the lack of music!

Redrosesposies · 05/09/2025 20:27

Too late now. I'm sure it will be lovely and if anyone complains tell them they are lucky to be there at all😄

Newsenmum · 05/09/2025 20:26

I mean this sounds like a perfect low key wedding. I wish more were like this. It’s (hopefully!) people you like, so theyll be happy and itll be fun.

Trumpthecant · 05/09/2025 20:26

That doesn’t sound chilled to me. It sounds like a lot of travelling, no relaxing and letting hair down with a drink, and no merriment/dancing. Will anyone actually go wild swimming, or bring their costumes for the hot tub? Sounds more like an 18th. But it’s up to you.

DappledThings · 05/09/2025 20:26

It sounds lovely. I'd be really looking forward to that if I was a guest.

PamIsAVolleyballChamp · 05/09/2025 20:25

But yes, agree it sounds fabulous!

Waitingfordoggo · 05/09/2025 20:25

I wouldn’t love the driving between different places, but the plans themselves sound lovely and I’m sure would make up for the travelling. I’m a massive bit of a pessimist and would be worried about weather for the final venue- is there a small marquee or something under cover just in case? I daresay any wild swimmers or hot tubbers wouldn’t mind a bit of light rain, but it would be less fun for anyone sitting round a fire pit.

But it’s only a few weeks away so plans can’t be changed now anyway. So I’m going to say: no, it will NOT be a disaster!

It really does sound lovely and I hope you have a wonderful day and that the weather is kind. ☀️

PamIsAVolleyballChamp · 05/09/2025 20:24

What's the sleeping accommodation like?

Fayaway · 05/09/2025 20:24

Nervousb2b · 05/09/2025 20:21

No.

It was supposed to be a very, very small ceremony and then word got out and it spread. If we'd had more time, we could have provided transport.

It's been planned in 2 months.

There’s your answer! Friends and family actually want to celebrate with you, how lovely. I think they’ll be able to work out the logistics of transport. Refreshing that it’s not micro-managed. Congratulations and have fun.

Nervousb2b · 05/09/2025 20:23

Jobinterviewsandwich · 05/09/2025 20:21

The only bit that would put me off is the 40 min drive to the pub. That seems quite a lot. Surely there was a venue for the ceremony closer? I can see stress with traffic or finding parking etc.

The end venue sounds amazing and tbh it sounds like it’ll be a really lovely day overall.

So the thing with the pub is it's half way between the church and the final venue, so it didn't seem too bad when booking it. I do totally and completely see your point though!

It's also in a national park and with summer over I highly doubt there will be traffic and there's thankfully definitely enough space for parking... So I suppose there's a few worries eliminated there!
