To think the men women need protecting from aren’t asylum seekers but the ones shouting outside the hotels?

I read in the Guardian this week that 40% of the men arrested during last year’s racist riots had already been reported to police for domestic abuse. That stat hasn’t left my mind.
It makes me think that the men standing outside asylum hotels claiming to “protect” women are often the very ones we need protecting from.

AIBU to think the real danger isn’t coming from migrants, it’s coming from the violent, radicalised men already here who use women’s safety as a smokescreen?

This is an article worth reading.

It’s fine and understandable to be concerned about immigration and the asylum hotels. But just please don’t be stupid enough to think that Nigel Farage and his ilk care about women and girls. The truth is the absolute opposite - they’d like us back in the kitchen with no power to say no to anything.

(It’s worth remembering that Kyle Clifford watched Andrew Tate videos in the hours leading up to the murders he committed.)

“It’s an old trick from the far-right playbook: the fantasy that foreign men pose an existential danger to white women, who must be “protected” by white men. The subtext is clear: women are property in need of guarding. And then there is the darker truth: violence is tolerable, so long as it comes from our own.

Don’t believe me? Ask yourself where Farage’s fury goes when the perpetrators are white British men. I don’t recall him being an apologist for “civil disobedience on a vast scale” when Kyle Clifford raped and murdered Louise Hunt and killed her sister and mother with a crossbow, nor when the Met officer Wayne Couzens abducted and murdered Sarah Everard. What I do recall is Farage hailing Andrew Tate, the misogynist influencer who is facing rape and human trafficking charges in Britain (which Tate denies) and an investigation in Romania, as an “important voice” for young boys. He also defended his own MP, James McMurdock, who in 2006 was convicted of assaulting his former girlfriend, downplaying the offence, insisting the conviction was “irrelevant” and that his colleague was a “good example to young tearaways”. By my count, that is 20 per cent of Reform’s originally elected MPs with violent offences against women.”

Nigel Farage’s hollow, dangerous concern for women

Reform’s radical plans for mass deportations won’t make anyone safer.

Because of the incidences of sexual assault.,.

By the men rioting? 40%+ over a couple of different occasions. No evidence it’s at 40% for asylum seekers - though, as men, I’m sure it’s true of some of them.

Stop being disingenuous (or deluded) and swap Afghanistan with other Muslim country if the Taliban confused your brain

I am in no way confused
I see some of the posters on here VERY clearly

You need to look at the stats pound for pound

I have never been to Epping but I am pretty sure its not under Taliban rule.
I do know that the only place my 13 year old DD had men shout "show us your tits" on a saturday afternoon was Wetherspoons where there was a distinct lack of Asylum seekers.
I am not arguing that women and girls are safe from harrassment outside places where large groups of bored young men are hanging out (many of them from countries with a very dubious attitude to women) BUT the men who want to "protect are kids" are as a group as likely to assault them as men who have arrived here illegally.

Exactly.

Some balance is what is needed here.

Seriously? The whole grooming gang thing just passed you by?

No of course not, but let’s not pretend that all of the perpetrators in these situations are immigrants. Plenty of instances of British born offenders exist.
it’s just easier to pretend that ALL the problem lies with immigrants.

genesis92 · 05/09/2025 20:42

The UK don’t currently release crime (sexual assault) data in relation to race or religion. They don’t do it because they know the truth would look pretty frightening.

Luckily other EU countries do and there is a HIGH disproportionate amount of sexual crimes committed from immigrant men.

I don’t think the FO advises anyone travel there at the moment

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 05/09/2025 20:41

I mean obviously all men from anywhere can be a threat.

But it is striking how many of the men protesting outside have DV convictions. Same as MAGA - those who shout most about “foreign criminals” “foreign rapists” and “protecting our women” so often seem to have convictions for these type of offences.

Anyone would think it was more about ownership of women than anything else?

It would also of course be great if we still had
access to the EU's database of intelligence on those seeking asylum and whether they may have previous convictions in EU countries etc for these of, because of course I'm in favour of protecting women and children from predatory men, wherever they are from! Not going to pretend anyone seeking asylum or moving to the UK for whatever reason must be lovely.

Gladysknightjustwalkinmyshoes · 05/09/2025 20:41

A lot of the hotel protesters in their 50s will have been casuals when younger so a fair few will have a violent disposition and perhaps connections to extreme right wing organisations when younger.

OP clearly lives miles from a migrant hotel in some lovely non-diverse Grauniad-reading leafy suburb.

Yes not in an area where a migrant has multiple police reports made about him for hiding in bushes taking photographs of children, exposing himself on a field where children play then arrested at a family fun day for assaulting females, only to be released by the police the same day before doing even worse days later and barricading a road with bins snd throwing bricks at cars whilst waving a knife around. Can't say any local men have done that recently.

That maybe or maybe not true but we really don’t need even more rapists allowed in our country if that is in fact true, so do you support illegal immigration???

In the most recent riots 47 out of 151 people arrested had prior convictions for domestic abuse. In the riots in Northern Ireland recently, almost half the rioters, 48%, had prior convictions for domestic abuse. A quarter of all Reform members of parliament have convictions for domestic abuse.

The dangerous men are the protesters. Not the people in the hotels.

Haha that stat about Reform always makes me laugh. They have FOUR members of parliament and one of them was convicted of assault (I think) a long time ago. There is a rule in statistics that you need quite a big sample to draw any conclusions so that stat means nothing! And for the second time for the hard of thinking people arrested is NOT the same as people protesting which is perfectly legal even under Starmers totalitarian government.

StrawberryJangle · 05/09/2025 20:32

Give your stats to the teenage girl sexually assaulted and tell her to jog on with GCSEs why don't you?

This isn't about grown adult vs grown adult.
This isn't about a choice to leave or stay.

It's about a child.

YABVVU.

Absentmindedsmile · 05/09/2025 20:35

OwlBeThere · 05/09/2025 20:28

But if the immigrants were that dangerous then there would be loads of examples of them assaulting women. But there are not. Women here are mostly at risk from the men they live with. Simple fact.

There are sex crime statistics (or lots of examples) which show higher sex crime rates for non British born men. In Germany too (obv German born v non German born)

Men women live with have higher rates of sex assaults against those women. Shocker . Again proportionality.

Hoppinggreen · 05/09/2025 20:34

Zov · 05/09/2025 20:29

Really? Confused I don't even know where to start with that!

By agreeing?
Based on statistics women are more likely to be sexually asssaulted at home than near a place housing asylum seekers.
I don't think asylum seekers should be housed in town centre hotels, they should be kept securely in centres and processed quickly BUT women are at risk from the men outside those hotels as much as the men inside them, if not more.

Midnights68 · 05/09/2025 20:33

Yep, the far right are a serious danger to women - always have been. After all, Reform has a man with a domestic violence conviction as an MP (and one he didn’t declare!)

Of course all men represent a danger to us. But I’m more scared of far right thugs than any other group of men.

Regularmumm · 05/09/2025 20:33

Yes those men waving flags look like Neanderthal thugs and I would definitely cross the street if I saw them. Can’t stand yobbish behaviour.

Annoyeddd · 05/09/2025 20:33

A BBC interview with one of the Bell hotel residents said the guy recently convicted was one of a small group of residents disliked by the majority of residents because they were fond of drinking and behaving badly.
