Not daft in the slightest. They have started somewhere, but it’s not working for various reasons. The forums are not active or well populated.

Mumsnet, the organisation, welcomes men posters, so saying they are ‘jumping after the ladies have done all the work’ is the daft thing to say. For what reason wouldn’t they post somewhere they are welcome to?

It's not working because they give up...

It's obviously that they are not universally welcome here. You don't have to agree.

PrincessofWells · 05/09/2025 18:17

That's their problem, why should it impact us?

Mumsnet the organisation has decided it ‘should impact you’ as it welcome them. So it’s rather your problem if you don’t like it.

Digdongdoo · 05/09/2025 18:14

What a daft thing to say. Mumsnet is also full of individuals, most of whom are women. There's absolutely no reason men can't do the same thing. They have to start somewhere, but it's easier to jump after the ladies have done all the work isn't it...

Because the owners of Mumsnet do not believe that Mumsnet should exclude fathers or limit their access to a single topic. And to reinforce that they deliberately include the tagline "for parents, by parents".

If you don't like that you are free to petition Justine et al to change their stance. Just do remember that it has been tried before and failed every time because Mumsnet as a company doesn't agree with you.

Did you just call posting on a chat forum 'work'? 👀🤣

Well if it isn't "work" then it would simple enough for men to do. Right?

Luckyingame · 05/09/2025 18:24

This forum is for men as well, however,
I usually start seeing red when I spot a thread starting "Dad here, my wife wouldn't be intimate with me anymore".
Glad not to have this nonsense in my life, very glad.

Misogynist post 🙄

No it's not

That's their problem, why should it impact us?

how does it impact US?

Does it affect you in any way if non-parents post on here?
How does men posting have any effect? It doesn't affect me. Trolls, male or female, and keyboard warriors affect me. Sex and gender? couldn't care less.

It's more boring to be unable to have any thread without someone jumping screaming "Patriarchy" and "men HATE us". Calm down Linda, we were talking about apple crumbles 😂

Mumsnet have made it very clear many times that this is a site that was set up for helping parents but is now for anyone eg childless, Childfree, from anywhere in the world. Men were included from the very beginning.

Exactly.

I do think some people are being deliberately thick now.

That bit on top of womansleg

@AromanticSpicesI have just literally laughed out loud at this on my very crowded train home!

The reason I know is because they always announce the fact they're male, as if it's some kind of achievement lol.

This is rather unnecessarily negative, but sums up the way the majority of MNers appear to view men.

I imagine it’s mostly innocuous. They may feel they’re entering a space that’s primarily designed for women’s voices and want to acknowledge they’re “not the usual demographic” and situating their perspective.

Or they might be unsure whether their presence is welcome. By announcing “man here”, they’re pre-emptively acknowledging they’re outsiders.

Or sometimes it’s less about relevance and more about a ritualistic disclaimer — a bit like saying “take this with a pinch of salt.” Even if sex isn’t central, they may feel it matters to note their outsider status.

TinyTempest · 05/09/2025 18:19

PrincessofWells · 05/09/2025 18:06

Then they can bugger off to Dadsnet can't they . . .

And you can bugger off somewhere else too 🤷‍♂️

But as you haven't, you'll just have to accept that this is not a female only website.

OnlyHerefortheBiscuits · 05/09/2025 18:18

It's an everything forum.

over the years forums like this (where activity appears in chronological order uninterfered with by algorithms) have slowly disappeared one by one. We can thank Facebook for this, though it doesn't give you the same experience.

On FB, an algorithm chooses what "threads" you will see in a group. People are fed up with it and are coming to the last few remaining bastions of an actual chat forum.

I'm a childfree woman, so I really don't fit the tag line of "by parents, for parents." If anything, according to that logic a dad has more "right" to be here than me 🤷🏼‍♀️

BluePearOntheRocks · 05/09/2025 18:17

Really decent men would want you to undo that social conditioning that makes you leap to their defense.

😂😂

and here we go again. You know it's possible to have an opinion, and consider PEOPLE, not believing in that "sisterhood" nonsense, without "defending" men.

It's says more about you, believing that everything we think or express is because of men, than it says about me.

PrincessofWells · 05/09/2025 18:17

Didimum · 05/09/2025 18:11

Dadsnet is barely active. No individual man can change that and it’s not useful to be on an inactive forum.

That's their problem, why should it impact us?

Digdongdoo · 05/09/2025 18:14

NoCommentingFromNowOn · 05/09/2025 18:14

Justine has said previously that ‘mumsnet’ is more catchy than ‘mums and dads net’ or ‘parents net’.

They can say that all they like, but they know full well who their target market and customer base really are.

roseclouds · 05/09/2025 17:57

Again, what's the best way to troll Mumsnet and grab attention?

"Hello ladies, man here" 🤷‍♂️

You must be very naïve if you think that just because someone types something on the internet, it has to be true.

Therefore any posters causing trouble should be dealt with.

I don’t really care one way or the other BUT I always think it a little bit weird a man would post on a site called Mumsnet.

I don’t mind. It’s interesting to have another perspective.
