Is this too unpleasant to do even in the circumstances?!

We have to catch a flight this evening and our bedding is not in a good state after a night and day of sickness bug. I have no time to now wash it. Is it too awful to leave it on and wash when we return? It’s cheap bedding and I’m now wondering if we throw it out rather than leave it?!

I flew a few weeks ago with Air India and the entire family in front of us were coughing continuously. I fell asleep and woke and was watching the father who was sated diagonally to me. He was literally coughing up phlegm into sick bags and the air hostess kept running off to bring him more. In the meantime the trolley came around and their children's hands were touching everything and the air hostess told them off. Neither the mother or father noticed as they were too busy coughing their guts up.
In the final hour, people around the man began to realise that he was coughing phlegm into these bags and complained. The air hostess asked him if he had a mask which he didn't. She then asked him to move directly in front of me! Unfortunately, there was only an hour left of the 10 hour flight so the damage had already been done.
We spent a week so unwell on holiday that we had to see a Dr twice and was given antibiotics. My daughter is still coughing now.
I wish I'd had the bravery to complain before the others did but it was a full plane with no other seating.
It was absolutely disgusting. I am fully of the opinion that everybody should wear a mask on planes like during COVID. It's such a contained space that we are breathing everything in. I'll certainly be wearing a mask next time.
People are so so selfish when they get on a plane unwell. Staff should look out for signs as people enter.
So YABU. For travelling whilst sick and for leaving your washing.
Rant over!

Rage bait?

Of course it is. Best ignored but of course everyone will react which is exactly what this bored one-dimensional little person wants.

Sleepeatcrochetrepeat · 05/09/2025 16:00

Aye, seems some schools still aren’t back then…

FuzzyWolf · 05/09/2025 15:57

I would just wash it now and have the decency to stay well away from the flight and anyone else.

I think you should take the sheets with you and spread them out over your plane seats before sitting down.

😂😂

2dogsandabudgie · 05/09/2025 15:55

Don't think this is true. It is rare for an adult to be that ill that they can't make it to the bathroom in time. Who would stay in a bed for a night and day with vomit all over the bedding.

naiveandrestles · 05/09/2025 15:54

Depends what you mean not good state. If its just generally sweaty and a bit manky, then just change when you get back. If there are "bodily fluids" and you're not bothered about replacing them, just chuck them. Otherwise as someone else said, short cycle to get the worse off and hang them up somewhere (not outside or it might advertise your house is empty).

I assume you're on the wind-up Hmm

stichguru · 05/09/2025 15:44

You have all day to wash the bedding as you won't be getting on the plane. Assuming you aren't completely horrible.

MadisonMarieParksValetta · 05/09/2025 15:43

Aye good try 👍

QueenClinomania · 05/09/2025 15:42

if you can't wash it then put it all in a bin liner and throw it away otherwise the stench you will come back to will be horrendous.
Ideally you would not go on a plane with a vomiting bug but I get the feeling that's not something you are even considering.

ResusciAnnie · 05/09/2025 15:40

Clearly a troll, no one would leave puked/pooed on bedding on a bed and expect to come home to it in the same state as it was left.

Hypothetically you would least put it in the washing machine and come home to musty but clean laundry.

Realistically, you'd clean it because you'd be postponing your flight because you have a sick bug.

But you won't, because this never happened.

TinyTeachr · 05/09/2025 15:40

DON'T get the flight! For goodness sake you will give it to everyone on the plane!!! If its been so recent that you haven't managed to strip sheets abd give them at least a rinse/half hour wash, you're too ill and infectious to fly. What on earth are you thinking?

nosleepforme · 05/09/2025 15:38

Darragon · 05/09/2025 15:04

I would always immediately strip the beds to avoid getting vomit fluids on mattresses. Can’t you put it all through a quick wash (most washers have a 20 minute wash) then throw it over your shower enclosure/ curtain rail/ doors so its fresh? Then do a proper wash when you get back?

How did people get by before being able to run each daily decision past people on the internet 🤣

I wish the government would check in with MN for every decision to be made 😆

tealandteal · 05/09/2025 15:36

YABVU to get on a plane with a sickness bug. It’s 48 hours since last episode of d/v. On the chance that is what you meant. Just put them on a 15 minute wash and hand them over the door, then wash them again when you are back. Otherwise your mattress and room will smell awful.

Remingtonsteele · 05/09/2025 15:32

You’re going to get on a plane, where air is recycled, with a sickness bug?

wash the sheets etc and put them on an airer. They’ll be dry by the time you get back?

toxicjobrec · 05/09/2025 15:32

i call bs. even if your flight was early evening, you'd still have time to put a load on to dry out. the fact that you're flying.. well i have no words.

Hercisback1 · 05/09/2025 15:31

Put it in the shortest wash possible with dettol and bio powder. Hang up inside while away.

Wash them and hang them over several dining chairs. Make the bed when you get back.
