To think Farage surely has to go

So Farage has some dodgy private company set up to avoid paying tax. Is he being pressured to resign as head of Reform? Of course not. Because he’s an entitled privileged man.

The double standards are incredible really. Here’s the story https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2025/sep/05/nigel-farage-uses-private-company-to-pay-less-tax-on-gb-news-earnings

While I think Rayner had to resign, why are the same standards not being applied?

Nigel Farage uses private company to pay less tax on GB News earnings

Exclusive: Reform leader’s use of personal services firm is a practice criticised across the political spectrum

With regards to work ethic, yes they do, I'm referring to my family's experiences in Denmark, the culture is about working as a collective, everyone contributes and if people feel like they are listened to at work, they will work harder.

Stop going on about Denmark to justify left wing nonsense, a country with half the population of London is not comparable to the UK.

Denmark is an example of where collective bargaining, Trade Union membership is very high but still they have a very good economic growth and high standard of living. I was only using Denmark as I have extended family there who's quality of life is much higher than here but with similar jobs to DH and I. However, this applies across the Scandinavian countries. Stop kidding yourself and others that it's people wanting workers' rights that's making the quality of life poorer for everyone, it isn't, as well you probably know if you work for Reform HQ!

Why would I work for Reform HQ? Have you checked your facts on Tube Drivers yet?

Do you want to emulate the U.S. where wealth inequality is extreme and many live in poverty akin to third world countries.

Yeap. I would like to an entrepreneurial culture where anyone can succeed with effort. Where it is easy to create business, create employment and you get rewarded for taking risk. The UK needs to reduce the size of the state and give people responsibility for their lives. There isn't poverty in the US like a third world country that is a ridiculous notion.

They do earn that. Read the TFL website. "End of Story" yet it me that isn't willing to explore the facts. Why constant reference to Denmark? The only good things to come from Denmark are Bacon, Sandy Tolsvik and Lego.

I would ban all strikes but I don't think that is Reform policy. Either you want a job or you don't. Don't take a job then refuse to do it as leverage to get more cash. Union membership is a very selfish behaviour.

We are clearly never going to agree. Unions don't improve work ethic - what nonsense.

That's bullshit. Why do you think that employees earning between £70k and £100k should be allowed to hold the capital to ransom for a pay increase?

They are paying higher rate tax on those salaries, if correct and are net contributors.... or don't you want that?
Seems like you want us all to be on a pittance, claiming UC top ups.

Anyway, 70k in Central London, isn't much, work all hours too, plus have suicides to deal with, many of the people they are driving around will be on many times that amount.

Station staff, also on strike, are on 40k.

If more people were in unions, we wouldn't have such high in-work benefits, the average EU8 worker is around 10k p.a better off than the UK worker, much of which is down to unions.

They don't earn that though, pure hyperbole but also BS. Holding the 'capital to ransom'? Again, hyperbolic. DH and I couldn't use the Tube yesterday we ended up walking, it is better for us but that's besides the point. They are taking collective action which is something Unions do. Worker's rights are important - end of story!

Bumblebee72 · 10/09/2025 15:03

Goldenbear · 10/09/2025 14:58

Not really as your argument is just that you don't like them, there is nothing more to it whereas I'm asking you to explore the benefits and how they can be used successfully and are in countries like Denmark where people have a better standard of living.

"£90000"? Where did you get that figure from? Can Tube Drivers and coffee shop workers both be in unions?

TFL website. The starting salary is £70k, plenty earn £90k, some earn up to £100k. They only earn that because they hold the country to ransom.

"Selfish" ? It should be normalised more in this country so the power is more balanced and work ethic improves.

Ordinary working person = tube driver on 90k obviously.... Not a coffee shop worker who needed to get to work to pay their bills.

WTF is an ordinary working person? Does it include people trying to get across London for work this week?

People who want to join a union or are in one, shouldn't be legislated against.

Are you saying all strikes should be banned? sounds like it.

So Reform don't value ordinary working people, nice to know.

The majority of ordinary working people aren't in Unions. Only about 20% of people are in a Union but they cause disproportionate amount of disruption. .

No patronise me. I know the history. That is one of the reasons they always give in. Many unions members used to have to pay fees to the Labour party as part of their membership - fortunately that has reduced. It's only a matter of time until Reform will reduce the Union rights thank god.

You make Reform sound rather sinister there like they are the The Zod Trio in the Superman 1980's films just enjoying making everyone's lives more miserable for their own gain!

It’s a very small demographic that has actually felt an improvement rather than a loss: a subset of public sector workers (esp who are also on UC), people retired on public sector pensions, fully state funded people, third world immigrants and prospective immigrants and obviously Labour MPs.

All those arguing that Labour is doing a good job will be of one of those groups.

Edited

I’m not in one of those groups by the way. I am a single mother whose children are just about grown up, I’ve supported myself and the kids through the tory years and the appalling state of SEN support. and no child benefit for singletons who earn over the amount for couples!
