Instagram posters etc actively rejoicing in getting in the kids back to school, jokes about chucking them through the door and so on
I get it, it’s hard with kids off, you have no peace and so on, but these posts just make me feel uncomfortable and the videos just aren’t that funny

It’s a joke.

Why do they make you feel uncomfortable?!

Modern parenting expectations are super intense. No wonder people are looking forward to not being with their kids 24/7!

People are allowed to feel differently from you about things. Fine, no need to agree with them. But it 'makes you uncomfortable'? Really??

Some people love the summer holidays because for them it's six weeks of chilling with their kids who are the kind of kids who like being off school and they have the time and money to do lots of nice things. For other people, arranging six weeks of childcare is a logistical nightmare, the school holidays are ruinously expensive and their kids are super sociable and get bored at home and want to be back at school with their friends. Nothing wrong with parents joking about either scenario.

I think it all depends on circumstances, I have a very demanding, possibly ADHD Junior school child and I haven’t had any time off from them, literally with them from 7am - 9.30pm as they follow me everywhere, often at night too she’s in my bed. Have an infant school sibling too who is far far easier but then the arguing between them is exhausting. Is she incredibly happy to go back and missing her friends and the mental stimulation of school? Yes. Do I need a mental and physical break after 40+ days straight, yes. I’m not exactly chucking them through the door but I’ll be a much better mum later for having a break today…

Who pee’d in your Wheaties?

Perhaps you should avoid social media.

EchoedSilence · 04/09/2025 10:16

Don't look at them then.
