To hate all the gleeful revelling in back to school posts

Instagram posters etc actively rejoicing in getting in the kids back to school, jokes about chucking them through the door and so on
I get it, it’s hard with kids off, you have no peace and so on, but these posts just make me feel uncomfortable and the videos just aren’t that funny

OP posts:

I agree op, its a bit much

When I see those posts, I’m always wondering how the children will feel when they see those(by going through their parent(s) SM posts)

Because granted, it’s likely that it won’t happen for a few years. But discovering that your parent(s) couldn’t wait to get rid of you as a (young) teen isn’t going to be a nice feeling.

And yes most if us have felt some sort of relief.
It doesn’t mean it’s ok to post publicly about it

I think if the kids in question are loved and well-adjusted, it won’t be an issue. I know my parents were always relieved when the holidays were over - I certainly never felt unloved or unwanted because of it. Not everything has to be censored or changed just in case it may one day cause offence.

NotEnoughKnittingTime · 04/09/2025 11:57

It is tongue in cheek. Who forced you to watch?

Who pee’d in your Wheaties?

Can I just say, I'd never considered how to write pee'd before, but that's definitely how I'll do it should I ever have to. Much better than peeed which just looks silly.

I suppose it depends what their relationship is like with their parents generally? I remember my mum expressing relief at the end of the school holidays but it never bothered me as I felt loved and had a happy home life. Plus even as a kid I had enough self awareness to realise that me and my sister's endless arguing was annoying!

TheSummerof25 · 04/09/2025 11:53

@Twistedfirestarters absolutely. It’s all for the clout.

@Twistedfirestarters the counterbalance ones are more annoying, sanctimonious Mummy influencers who have enjoyed every moment 🙄 I sit firmly in the middle.

Most people are in the middle really but I think it's part and parcel of social media that people exaggerate for engagement.

Digdongdoo · 04/09/2025 11:49

It's a joke. Summer hols are relentless, my kids are as happy as I am to be back at school. I miss them already though.

Princessconsuelabananahammock9 · 04/09/2025 11:48

This one’s my favourite from years ago. I remember this feeling with littlest ones well!

Op many of us are exhausted and desperate for a break.

I'm sure that parents are half joking, looking for likes.
I haven't seen any because I am not on social media.

I agree with this. As my kids get older I’m so conscious of what I post on social media about them but also parenting in general. They will be able to see what I’ve written in a few years.

I think it is fair enough to talk to friends and family to privately express feelings about this kind of thing but putting it on social media isn’t wise.

Rockfordpeach · 04/09/2025 11:36

I find them funny, doesnt mean I dont have a ball of anxiety in my chest about how my child's day is going and looking forward to giving them a big hug after school

Twistedfirestarters · 04/09/2025 11:25

Surely they are counter balanced by the very many posts by parents saying the opposite?

Either reaction to your kids going back to school is equally valid imo.

You have no idea what people are struggling with and everybody's summer holidays will look different.

StrawberrySquash · 04/09/2025 11:23

I voted YABU because it's a joke. But I do have some sympathy; it gets tiresome when it feels like everyone is doing the same joke, and I guess that's what your feed have done. One is funny ten is a bit much. I think it's partly caused by the memey nature of social media.

TheNightingalesStarling · 04/09/2025 11:16

I love having my children home.
it was also exhausting trying to WFH while having them home

So yes I'm very happy they are back at school and will enjoy the exhaustion of the evening taxi service and homework assistance instead.

This reminds of that Ricky Gervais stand up where he says about the people who follow him on Twitter just to be offended by what he says 😆

I mean, I see lots on social media that I don't find funny / relate to but I just scroll past and accept everybody is different. Not difficult.

TorroFerney · 04/09/2025 10:41

To having children that you presumably wanted at home ? Yes I agree.

You can feel happy everyone is back in a routine and that you have a but of breathing space whilst still enjoying your children.

I think it's cringe when influencers do it but then I think everything parent influencers do is cringe!

TheSummerof25 · 04/09/2025 10:41

Allswellthatendswelll · 04/09/2025 10:37

Why do they make you feel uncomfortable?!

Modern parenting expectations are super intense. No wonder people are looking forward to not being with their kids 24/7!

I miss the kids. But don’t miss having to patch together childcare etc to work a few hours and finding a difficult balance between using childcare and them not relaxing at home.

I'd be asking myself questions about why my reaction was so extreme.

TheSummerof25 · 04/09/2025 10:40

It makes me smile. But I wouldn’t partake. I hate all the sharing of school uniform pictures - I think I’ve followed too many child protection types on insta but I’m now sharing very little about my kids online. Especially photos.

TorroFerney · 04/09/2025 10:40

I agree it’s really odd. Breathe an internal sigh of relief if you struggle but don’t advertise it. It’s in the realms of men don’t do housework, women can’t park. Just stupid terminating cliche stuff people parrot.

if I was a child and my parent was putting that on social media I’d feel shame.
