If one was to ‘find’ some spray paint how might one amusingly deface a St George’s Cross (hypothetically ofc)

Just as the title says really. We’ve thought of a game of noughts and crosses but figured you Vipers might have a good idea of some other visual effects that could be added. TIA

You are being unreasonable = stop
spoiling the knuckledraggers fun

you are not being unreasonable = crack on gals!

I'm not English but I find the OPs question so sad to read

It is the flag of your country and shouldn't be defaced.

I think people need to take pride in their flag and 'take it back' so to speak.

I think it's very sad that it seems to be seen (rightly or wrongly) by some as racist and I wished it drew people together rather than separating or dividing a country

There needs to be a major re brand....

Sadly rhw flag has been hijacked by the far right..

No way would I ever fly it, because of this hijacking...

Much as how the nazi symbol was hijacked from ancient cultures.

I mean... Why would you?!

mazzikid · 02/09/2025 02:56

I vote you turn it into a game of noughts and crosses!

DiscoBeat · 02/09/2025 01:17

I'm thinking, carry scissors rather than spray paint!

ThatMintFinch · 02/09/2025 01:04

This is so weird to read as someone who isn't English or British. Why would anyone hate their national flag? So what if people put it on roundabouts etc, What's bad about patriotism?

SprayWhiteDung · 02/09/2025 00:54

If you happened across a can of white spray paint instead, you could deface it by painting a white cross over it and make it look just like a roundabout.

Nothing wrong with all the England flags up! Looks good

I'd prefer it if they were done properly. It just seems to be a bunch of cheap, small, nylon flags cable-tied to lamp posts. Not just in England, a proliferation of Welsh flags have appeared on lamp posts here in the last week or so.

Would be much better if there were fewer but better flags. Get some decent sized ones and have them mounted properly on public buildings. Look at the Lionesses homecoming parade on The Mall. Every other Union Flag had been switched for a St George's Cross. That looked quite good (and I'd have switched the lot for the event, instead of just half of them). One decent-sized flag fluttering on a flagpole looks far better than a dozen cheap ones cable-tied to lamp posts.

Just calm down and get a sense of humour will you?? Or maybe change your username to pamisfunatparties

Ah yes, “it was just banter, get a sense of humour”. We’ve heard it all before “my darling”

GarlicPint · 01/09/2025 23:37

I wished it drew people together

That's what the Union Jack represents.

Do you actually know what's under discussion here?

It angers and frightens me that you feel the need to deface it, it’s the flag of England, would you feel the same if immigrants destroyed it ?

I’m not proud of what England is becoming I hate to think what it will be like in a few more years. But defacing our flag is not the way to bring the great back into Great Britain.

Phew

I could play X o with one of those racist chappies as it's four squares it would be a draw ,we could reach an understanding and live happily ever after 👍😁

Trixibell1234 · 01/09/2025 23:22

I just wish people would hang flags on their property or out their windows etc. I couldn’t care less about that but hate seeing them on roundabouts and lampposts. What’s to stop everyone putting up their own flag on lampposts etc. Plus it will cost money to take them down and clean everything up.

I vote RNLI

Laura95167 · 01/09/2025 23:11

The St George shouldnt be a racist symbol and I feel by defacing them and tearing them down just reaffirms them as racist and strengthens this symbolism.

I only put flags up to support our sports teams. But it saddens me instead of celebrating our culture its used to make others feel unwelcome

LeticiaMorales · 01/09/2025 23:09

I was recently in Georgia (the country).
Their flag is the same with added crosses! Quite charming.

No3392 · 01/09/2025 23:04

I like to pretend it's the Genoa flag and I'm in Italy. Have to squint a lot though.

Makes me feel better.

Helena waiting. Just in case it isn’t clear: I’m agreeing with you.

There is no evidence whatsoever of any connection to Palestine. He was probably Cappadocian Greek, born in modern Turkiye. "Lydda, Palaestina" where he is believed to have died is actually Lod in central Israel. There is no evidence that he was "raised" there.

Palestine didn’t exist then. St George was a Roman soldier, who was born, lived and died in parts of the Roman Empire.
It dies no one any good to impose modern geography and politics onto the ancient world.

It’s been a symbol of the far right for many years. The far right are very racist.

It has been the symbol of England for over 600 years.

Pentangle?

Pentagons hold spiritual significance for several cultures, often representing harmony, unity and the interconnectedness of things.

TheCurious0range · 01/09/2025 22:31

Take them down wearing a fake council lanyard, and tell anyone who challenges you, you work for the council and have been ordered to remove them on threat of dismissal, so the council get all the backlash, it's what happened here 😂 It genuinely wasn't the council, I know this for a fact via work, but everyone hates the council's new bin regime so happy to jump on the we all hate the council bandwagon. It's been surprisingly unifying, social media is going wild
