You're arguing with an FWR poster here, everything is about trans people being male or female to them.

You are correct if course, being trans is irrelevant here. The shooter was mentally ill and allowed to buy a gun, exactly the same as all the other school shootings that happen in the USA.

Thank you. I genuinely couldn't work out the issue, when I'd explained it clearly!
The problem is gun ownership, more particularly by people with significant mental health problems.

I think you have the wrong person.
I never said what gender this person was.
My issue is that they were clearly very ill, had expressed violent intent towards children in a school, yet were allowed to get hold of weapons.
I've said that very clearly.

They have been 268 mass shootings in the USA this year.

Americans love their guns more than they love their children.

The leading cause of death for children and adolescents in the USA is firearms, and has been for the past five years. More than cars, illness etc.

So I'd agree with the above poster. The American government are powerless to protect children from guns.

The trans issue is not immaterial. This crime against humanity was not committed by a female.

Yes, the trans issue is immaterial. This person expressed a desire to murder children, and they should have been stopped.

The fact they are trans is not relevant. It’s the fact that guns are readily available and easy to source that is the problem. America caused their own problem.

paulhollywoodshairgel · 29/08/2025 13:30

So tragic. I have relatives that have moved to the USA and I often question why. Why would you want to live somewhere where your children could be shot at. Also where women’s rights are being slowly stripped away.

MadisonMarieParksValetta · 29/08/2025 13:26

It's big business. The NRA have so much control over politics there is literally zero chance of anything ever changing. Doesn't matter how many children die. Fucking disgusting country.

FenderStrat · 29/08/2025 13:24

Barack Obama really did try to introduce sensible gun laws in America.
The second he mentioned his plans, the sale of assault rifles went through the roof.
I think some states did introduce some restrictions on the type of rifle that could be sold.

Mildorado · 29/08/2025 13:20

FenderStrat · 29/08/2025 13:16

The American NRA will undoubtedly claim that, ' the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.'

But I've always thought, what about a law that stops the bad guy getting a gun in the first place?

You see, that's logical!

Mildorado · 29/08/2025 13:20

This person obviously had serious mental health problems and needed to be helped, possibly as an in patient. Instead of which, they got hold of assault weapons and murdered children at prayer.
However, not even this horror will change gun laws in the USA.

allusernamesaretakennow · 29/08/2025 13:17

On a side issue, im pleased the police are referring to the shooter as a man. Yesterday the BBC online article said the shooter was a she. I wont reproduce that nonsense here, typical BBC though. Its a bloody biological male. Most shooters are male, not all, but the vast majority.

I saw a tweet years ago that said the gun debate ended with Columbine - once it was deiced that that was acceptable collateral it was clear that nothing would change

nope, I got it wrong. it was this

"In retrospect Sandy Hook marked the end of the US gun control debate. Once America decided killing children was bearable, it was over." — Dan Hodges.

In 2023, there were 46,728 firearm-related deaths in the USA.

Again, wow, what a statistic. I guess not enough to want to change things though.

There never will be any action, because they cannot comprehend being not able to arm themselves against the threat of guns.

A catch 23, driven by their insanely high rate of gun ownership and number of guns in the country.

As to why do they do it… anger and notoriety. Killing children is the worst thing they could do, so they target them.

Just looking at the picture of the shooter! Mental illness? What is going on that young people feel the need to kill their peers in mass shootings.
