DP embarrasing me over periods

Bluebirdies · 28/08/2025 16:13

I’m 30 I know I shouldn’t exactly be embarrassed by them (and deep down I’m not) but this is how DP is making me feel.

I was having really bad stomach cramps last night. He was asking me what was wrong and I told him and he pulled a disgusted face. Then this morning I had come on and he said “eww”

When he says these things, I do pull him up on them but he says he’s joking but they aren’t funny to me. For a while now I have been trying to make out what this means. Is it just something he’s grossed out by? Or is it an example of not really caring about me? I can’t work it out

Society still sees periods as disgusting.

Anyone ive ever told about having my period has seen it as disgusting.

Is everyone you know immature? Periods are never nice to have because of the pain and discomfort that comes with it but why do people find it disgusting.

As long as hygiene/disposal of products is maintained correctly it should be a non issue.

Lottie6712 · 28/08/2025 17:50

Eurgh, couldn't be with someone so childish over periods. It's all much messier when you have children and you don't want to be with someone who can't handle basic biology!

Smile at him next time he makes such a remark in a kindly concerned manner. Ask him very gently if there’s something he needs to tell you. Ask him if he’d really prefer to be with a man.
If he demurs, say well it’s really quite odd behaviour for a straight mature man to be so disgusted by the ordinary biological functions of females. It makes you wonder if he’s not a bit odd and misogynistic and of course he should never have children as that is really quite a gory female biological experience.

Er gay men aren't automatically disgusted by periods? This seems like a deeply homophobic take.

I have to say the only men ive been with in my past who were completely nonchalant about periods- both of them were medical doctors.

I dont know why men are so childish in general

By contrast, in adulthood I've never had a male friend, partner or relative who was grossed out by periods.

My dad was completely nonchalant about this stuff when I was a kid, and he was born in the 1940s, ffs! He'd be doing the weekly supermarket shop and I'd ask him to add tampons to the list and he'd go 'Is it you who has the non-applicator ones or is that your sister, I can never remember'. My brother has also always been very unbothered about such things.

RawBloomers · 28/08/2025 17:46

It’s the sort of thing that used to be standard “joke” material, but most men have cottoned on to the fact it’s misogynistic. Have you actually said to him “Don’t joke about it like that, it’s misogynistic and makes me feel shitty.”?

If no, I would try that assuming everything else is fine.

If you have or do and he continues, I would reconsider the relationship. What other misogynistic attitudes is he holding? If he doesn’t have the respect and love for you to pull himself back from this small and obvious thing, it can only be the tip of the iceberg.

What is it with some men? My hubby tells me that my Always products stink the house out.Men can be some immature!!

I’m afraid I too hate the cheap fragrance of the Always towels. I do think it’s quite strong if you have a good sense of smell. They do sensitive ones without the fragrance.

Tagyoureit · 28/08/2025 17:43

I implore you to do better!

Imagine having a daughter with this numpty!! Now imagine her embarrassment aged 10/11 and she gets her first period!!

Chuck this one back!

Anywherebuthere · 28/08/2025 17:42

He sounds too immature to be in a relationship. Why are you with him?

MaggieBsBoat · 28/08/2025 17:42

and you have sex wit this manchild? Urgh.

This doesnt even make sense, they don't smell? Your 'hubby' is a child.

Bodyshopdewberry · 28/08/2025 17:40

I'd sit him down with a book for 8 year olds that explains what periods are. I bet he doesn't actually know. He is probably one of those men who thinks you can control the flow.

Kudos to you for having a 17-year-old toy boy. That’s the only explanation for his childishness.

Brilliant response and so true…. He’s a complete tosser x

I have a similar reaction when someone has a nose bleed or blood tests. Some people are grossed out by blood. I wouldn't take it personally.

She’s not showing him her period blood. She’s literally just saying the word period.

She's literally just saying the word 'period', not standing there dripping blood down her legs in front of him. If he's scared of blood, that's his problem and he can keep quiet about it instead of expressing disgust like a fucking whining baby.

I bet he doesn't say 'Eww' and 'Gross' if one of his mates gets a bloody nose in a fight.

Plastictreees · 28/08/2025 17:37

What a pathetic man baby.

Bin.

In that case it’s you who needs to be apologetic, not them!

BauhausOfEliott · 28/08/2025 17:34

Are you in a relationship with a 12-year-old school bully who watches Andrew Tate on TikTok? Because this is incredibly immature, misogynistic behaviour from a grown man.

Ironic that he's revolted by periods, because I'm revolted by men who behave like whiny little boys. I couldn't find a man attractive if he was this much of a baby. I'd have dumped him the first time it happened!

Galatine · 28/08/2025 17:34

He sounds like a twelve year old school boy. He needs to man up!

Haribosweets · 28/08/2025 17:32

Mine is the same and if I moan about them he tells me I should be used to them as I have had them every month for 35 years!
TBH it doesn't bother me. He wouldn't get me any pads etc. Suppose just what I'm used too!
I wouldn't be leaving him because of it though

Augarden · 28/08/2025 17:31

Why was he disgusted instead of giving you sympathy when you're in pain?

You can be grossed out by blood without telling your partner they're disgusting.
