DP embarrasing me over periods

Bluebirdies · 28/08/2025 16:13

I’m 30 I know I shouldn’t exactly be embarrassed by them (and deep down I’m not) but this is how DP is making me feel.

I was having really bad stomach cramps last night. He was asking me what was wrong and I told him and he pulled a disgusted face. Then this morning I had come on and he said “eww”

When he says these things, I do pull him up on them but he says he’s joking but they aren’t funny to me. For a while now I have been trying to make out what this means. Is it just something he’s grossed out by? Or is it an example of not really caring about me? I can’t work it out

No, he just screwed his face up and said "ew" - basically the same thing.

A decent man would help his partner, not behave like that.

But it’s not the same though… I don’t want to get into a back and forth but let’s be clear about what we’re calling “abuse” here? It wasn’t decent of him, I agree, but that doesn’t make it abuse

You just need to call it out each time it happens:

  • Are you intentionally trying to embarrass me
  • Something has to be funny for it to be a joke
  • Do you want your future DD to be treated like this in the future
  • Did you not get taught about Biology at school, do you need to educate yourself now?

Why?

Why should Op train this misogynistic idiot to behave like a decent human?

Being in a relationship with a twat is not mandatory

soupyspoon · 28/08/2025 18:27

I mean he's an idiot obviously but there are plenty of people of both sexes who cannot cope with the idea of poo (cant do that anywhere but home apparently and its disgusting if you do), snot, coughing, phlegm needing to be coughed up, periods, farts, hairy legs or armpits, facial hair (men and womens faces)

The list is endless.

This is forum that regularly has people boasting that they wash their towels a billion times a week

And people are surprised about this mans reactiona nd putting it in the category of him being male? Its not because he's male, its because he is immature.

Er gay men aren't automatically disgusted by periods? This seems like a deeply homophobic take.

I don’t think the poster is making the point that gay men find periods disgusting - I think it’s that if he were in a relationship with a man he wouldn’t have to be grossed out once a month !!

VaddaABeetch · 28/08/2025 18:22

If your lovely DP’s Mother had not had periods he would not exist.

Something to think about

ByDandyTurtle · 28/08/2025 18:22

anyone bleeding I would find gross but he doesn't need to be like that with you

Im not saying he behaved in a particularly kind or mature way (quite the opposite), however at no point does she say her partner has been calling her disgusting. Your overreaction and labelling him abusive for looking at her a certain way really diminishes the experiences of those who have genuinely experienced abuse.

Society still sees periods as disgusting.

Anyone ive ever told about having my period has seen it as disgusting.

You’re mixing with the wrong people.

Are you married to an 8 year old boy?

What grown adult would shame or make a woman feel embarrassed about normal bodily functions.

When I suffer with period cramps my husband asks what he can do to help. Whether that’s getting me a hot water bottle or popping to the shop for chocolate.

How insulting!!! My 8 year old son would never “eww” if someone has a period.

Calling your partner disgusting is abusive. Raise your standards @Shessweetbutapsycho

outerspacepotato · 28/08/2025 18:13

He's not joking.

He's a misogynist who is repulsed by the workings of a woman's body and shows it.

This dude needs to be taken out with the trash.

Howmanycatsistoomany · 28/08/2025 18:11

Into the bin with this one, OP. This is not how a loving partner behaves.

Anyahyacinth · 28/08/2025 18:07

To me it sounds a deliberate attempt to demean you, to make himself feel ? powerful, superior…the idea of someone saying this to me in my home makes my skin crawl. It’s just plain nasty and not someone to partner with 🤢

muggart · 28/08/2025 18:03

I would ask him exactly what the joke is because he sounds less like a comedian and more like a teenage boy who is scared of women’s bodies.

namechanged221 · 28/08/2025 18:03

Man-child

Very juvenile and pathetic way to behave.

Alconleigh · 28/08/2025 18:03

Throw this one back. As others have said, men not being able to cope with periods is a huge red flag (appropriately enough).

Vaxtable · 28/08/2025 18:02

He’s a nasty person who has no comprehension of what women have to put up with each month

i would be absolutely loosing my rag at him, telling him in great detail the pain we have to put up with, the constant changing of pads, tampax, mooncups whatever , the issue of being caught short suddenly and that’s comments like his are the last straw

he does it again and we are over

Loving your user name @HighLadyofTheNightCourt and I feel the need to point out that in one of the ACOTAR exclusive bonus chapters (I think for ACOSF?) that are available online, there is a scene where Feyre is having a horrendous time with her period and Rhysand is a) very sympathetic about her awful cramps and b) completely unfazed when she bleeds on to their sheets. What a man! 😍

Yes!!! ❤️Rhysand❤️
I’ve noticed Sarah J Maas mentions periods in a few of her books and the men always behave admirably and are unfazed by them.

Betsy95 · 28/08/2025 17:56

Nothing more to say than what’s already been said.

complete Man baby … super unattractive.

BauhausOfEliott · 28/08/2025 17:55

HighLadyofTheNightCourt · 28/08/2025 17:38

She’s not showing him her period blood. She’s literally just saying the word period.

Violinist64 · 28/08/2025 17:54

What a man-child. Is he this immature in other ways? Does he have any redeeming features in other ways? I would think very carefully about having his children. Apart from the fact that periods are somewhat fundamental to the ability to have babies, how on earth will he cope with all the fluids that babies tend to discharge?

Iocainepowder · 28/08/2025 17:53

My DH helped me change my maternity pads while i was struggling to bend after a c section. Your DP needs to do better.

JohnBullshit · 28/08/2025 17:53

That is suck a weird and icky response from your DH.
@BauhausOfEliott My dad was the same. Born in the early 40s, and not remotely fazed at being sent out for tampons or sanitary towels, any more than my mum would be about picking up shaving foam. It's just another bathroom product.

RobinEllacotStrike · 28/08/2025 17:52

how does his attitude not give you the ick OP?

I'm amazed anyone can fancy men like this once their true colours are revealed.
