DP embarrasing me over periods

Bluebirdies · 28/08/2025 16:13

I’m 30 I know I shouldn’t exactly be embarrassed by them (and deep down I’m not) but this is how DP is making me feel.

I was having really bad stomach cramps last night. He was asking me what was wrong and I told him and he pulled a disgusted face. Then this morning I had come on and he said “eww”

When he says these things, I do pull him up on them but he says he’s joking but they aren’t funny to me. For a while now I have been trying to make out what this means. Is it just something he’s grossed out by? Or is it an example of not really caring about me? I can’t work it out

God, he sounds about 12. What hideously repugnant behaviour. I don't think I could get past this. Does he giggle when he sees your titties too? And your front bottom? Hmm

What an arse!

MyGreyStork · 28/08/2025 16:35

Dump. This man is a child if he thinks periods are gross and makes a joke about it. Stop wasting your time.

MyMilchick · 28/08/2025 16:33

Is he 12?

Lurkingandlearning · 28/08/2025 16:33

As @HollyGolightly4 said, even teenage boys don’t behave like that. Most of them. It’s really weird for a grown man to be grossed out by something so natural, even cramps. I think he must have a warped view of women

tell him that if he isn’t supportive or nice or normal about it - he can fuck off for good as he isn’t even behaving as a 10 year old.

My daughter was having a bad period last week and her 11 year old brother ran her a warm bath, made her a hot chocolate without being asked - as that’s what you do if someone isn’t well. He is 11.

Society still sees periods as disgusting.

Anyone ive ever told about having my period has seen it as disgusting.

Really?! I mean, they aren't exactly pleasant but I don't know anyone who would react the way OP's partner did.

FOJN · 28/08/2025 16:31

I could not be with such an immature man. I've had relationships with one or two less than perfect specimens but never one who has behaved like a child about periods.

Cakeandcardio · 28/08/2025 16:31

My DH never even carried on like this when we were 17...

HighLadyofTheNightCourt · 28/08/2025 16:29

How pathetic of him.
My 10 year old son knows better than to react that way at the mere mention of periods.

I bet your boyfriend is a dick in other ways too isn’t he op?

autumncalling · 28/08/2025 16:29

What grown adult would shame or make a woman feel embarrassed about normal bodily functions.

Have a read of the thread on farts, @DaisyChain505 There are an alarming number of people who can't cope with normal bodily functions.

OP he sounds incredibly immature. I couldn't be with someone like this.

FriedFalafels · 28/08/2025 16:28

You just need to call it out each time it happens:

  • Are you intentionally trying to embarrass me
  • Something has to be funny for it to be a joke
  • Do you want your future DD to be treated like this in the future
  • Did you not get taught about Biology at school, do you need to educate yourself now?

Kudos to you for having a 17-year-old toy boy. That’s the only explanation for his childishness.

Nah, I’ve got a 17 year old DS. He’s far too mature to behave in such a way over something as natural as menstruation.

Robin67 · 28/08/2025 16:27

You are young and have plenty of time to find someone better. Can I suggest that you try an adult next time.

Careeringallovertheplace · 28/08/2025 16:26

Yeah ick. So childish. Get rid.

This made me chuckle.. my DD and her boyfriend have been together a couple of years. He came to see her on her 17th birthday after college and brought her some tampax and her favourite sweets as she had come on that day. He doesn’t bat an eyelid buying any from Tesco when she needs them.

But yeah, echoing this, what an immature child!

itsgettingweird · 28/08/2025 16:26

Look him in the eye and remind him of his mum didn’t have periods he wouldn’t exist and so to get over it!

DaisyChain505 · 28/08/2025 16:25

Are you married to an 8 year old boy?

What grown adult would shame or make a woman feel embarrassed about normal bodily functions.

When I suffer with period cramps my husband asks what he can do to help. Whether that’s getting me a hot water bottle or popping to the shop for chocolate.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 28/08/2025 16:25

Nah sorry! That would be me done. What a pathetic man child he is.

HollyGolightly4 · 28/08/2025 16:24

I think this is diabolical and he needs pulling up on it.

Can I just defend teenage boys for a minute. The majority of teenage boys are totally blase about girls taking pads to the bathroom to change. When one boy did say eeww, they (group of 14 year old boys) turned around and told him to shut up because 50% of the population has periods, including his mum. Genuinely one of my fave moments in teaching 🤣

CinnamonBuns67 · 28/08/2025 16:24

I've known teenage lads be more mature about period. Leave.

allthemiddlechildrenoftheworld · 28/08/2025 16:23

@Bluebirdies How old is he?? 12?????? tell him to get rid of those disgusting razors in his bathroom.

Superhansrantowindsor · 28/08/2025 16:21

This is a red flag. Get out now. I know loads of men and none of them are grossed out by periods and would never speak to their partner like that.
You deserve better. Is being with this shit head really better than being single?

PermanentTemporary · 28/08/2025 16:19

It’s incredibly unattractive to be so weirded out by normal bodily functions. Tbh there are women who are incredibly weird about ejaculation, periods, peeing or pooing - do you have any issues there, or did his mum?

Id have a bit of a shout about this. You deserve not to feel this way. You also deserve to feel you’re not with a complete child.

Balloonhearts · 28/08/2025 16:19

I'd tell him to stop being so fucking immature and that his 'jokes' are reminiscent of a 12 year olds, which makes it very hard to find him attractive. He needs to grow up.
