We have flags all over the town centre. Fortunately the racist banner that accompanied them has been removed (and replaced by a dozen flags along railings.

I thought we'd escaped on the edge of town, but no, this morning a couple of blokes were out hanging flags halfway up every telegraph pole into town.

There is nothing joyful and celebratory about these flags.

The reason people are circumspect is nothing to do with lack of patriotism but the fact that for years, our flag has been hijacked by football thugs, the BNP, the National Front, violent skinhead racist nobs.

We could 'take our flag back', but this is not what's happening. It's not being flown to celebrate anything, it's being flown to divide, not bring people together.

I would like the telegraph pole flags taken down, but tbh am not brave enough to do so for fear of the abusive backlash. A lady in town did ask them not to put a flag outside her house, very politely, but was abused, filmed and the film posted on social media mocking her (most responses mention 'karen' 🙄). So the preferences for those who don't want the flags are ignored.

We have flags in the town, flown permanently near the war memorial, and the St George cross flown on the church tower on occasion.

And for all the notions of patriotism, I noticed the Daily Express headline in the supermarket this morning :

Considering the hate and insults that have been spewed on these threads towards any who you deem to be racist, calling us angry hate filled agressive knuckle draggers, it appears to be anti flag people who are that way inclined. The agression you all have towards anyone who doesn't want to accept that your views are the only way is laughable.

You are entitled to your thoughts on the whole situation, as am I and everybody else in the country. It doesn't mean that any are more right than the other.

This thread is crammed full of posters trying to make out that it's only NOW that the England flag is offensive, when we all know that they have been crowing about it and bashing people who fly it for decades now. Crying bigot, racist, flagshagger, thick as mince, and all sorts of nasty names to anyone who dares to fly one.

This was WAAAAY before any of this 'paint and fly the England flags all over the place' stuff. They are kidding no-one by pretending that their complaints about the England flag has only just started - with their 'no-one minds the England flag being flown 'properly...' Errrrr, yeah actually the left DO 'mind,' and HAVE 'minded' for a long time! Stop trying to kid us. 😆

I have not painted any anywhere and I don't fly one, but I am not fussed if other people do, because I can see why they are doing it. And the attiitude of some on here, and the vile names they keep calling people is one of the reasons WHY people are doing it, and will keep doing it.

Sadly, for the left, it's not illegal to fly the England flag, though I know they would love it to be, so it's not gonna stop anytime soon.

And now I'm out. Got better things to fo on a sunny Sunday!

I'm fed up of people who live in their own little bubble who haven't experienced the hell that is going on in far too many of our towns and cities because of these hotel residents. The people who have now been moved onto our residential streets in the multiple HMO's that are now popping up as the hotels closed. You and the rest of the people who insult any who dares to fly a flag or show concern, also do not speak for every British person, you do not know how we feel. If we want to fly flags we will, and you don't want to nobody is forcing you to. That's part of the whole reason people feel proud to be British. You are allowed to have different views and opinions without being persecuted for it. Perhaps you should try showing us the same respect you show the people you think are made to feel uncomfortable by our flags.
