To think that Brooklyn Beckham

Is one spoilt entitled brat who has broken his parents hearts, not that I am a great fan of the Beckhams, at least they have worked all their lives and would not betray their parents!

I am reading “House of Beckham” by Tom Bower and if even a part of it is true, it sounds like a deeply unhealthy environment Brooklyn grew up in. As someone who is also estranged from seemingly lovely parents, nobody from the outside can really know what goes on behind closed doors in a family. I think he must have seen a lot as a child with DB’s affairs and so on. Good for him if he has decided to step away - it’s not often a decision taken lightly.

Midnights68 · 28/08/2025 09:23

I think it must be a bit hard for him - his dad’s super successful, his brothers have at least managed to carve out careers in modelling and football (if not as successful as their dad’s), and he, despite every opportunity, hasn’t made even a moderate success of anything - in fact has been roundly ridiculed.

His only real achievement is managing to marry a very rich and very attractive woman.

I’ve semi-followed what’s happening and can probably summarise as follows:

One spoilt brat living off mummy and daddy married another spoilt brat living off mummy and daddy. Then, rich people problems happened.

The end.

I think this happens more often in those high income circles than we realise - its not possible or considered that the fairly normal but not exceptional children get a 'regular' job. For example ages ago I was reading Joan Collins' rather fun and fabulous book My Unapologetic Diaries, and it kind of becomes apparent in her entries that even though her children were at the time of writing adults (and even approaching middle age!) that she was supporting them financially. You really feel the pressure in her diary entries that she feels to keep working and keep all those financial balls in the air and take care of everyone. And she while wealthy with a wonderful income, is not nearly as well heeled for example as the Beckhams.

Poor BB. All the nasty comments about him. He's a human being at the centre of this and hasn't done anything vaguely harmful. So his photography book was naff. He won't ever be a michelin chef. Who cares? Why are people so bitchy?

Ballardz · 28/08/2025 09:15

pizzaHeart · 27/08/2025 21:57

Aaa thank you!

its bad that he’s needed to renew his vows already (who is so thick that can’t keep his wedding vows for such a short period) but to exclude so openly his parents and siblings looks really rude whatever their disagreements are.
He clearly wants to be a new Harry.

Wants to be a new Harry?

Gosh Harry really does live rent free in the heads of some people.

Sweetbeans · 28/08/2025 09:14

I doubt Peltz's family resemble normality 😅

Tubs11 · 28/08/2025 09:14

It's impossible to know what's going on and why so yabu

Shelteringfromthestorm · 28/08/2025 09:10

I avoid reading about him, but sometimes he just pops up.

He's the same age as my eldest son, and it breaks my heart as my son is severely disabled and non verbal.
I was blissfully unaware of what the future held when pregnant as a young mum back in 1999. I was excited to follow Victoria's pregnancy in the media, being pregnant myself.

I don't resent Brooklyn, but it does make me think about my own son and what decisions he might have made if he had had the opportunities. I'm not talking about the fame, just normal every day life that my son will never experience.
I love my son just as he is, but my heart breaks for him at times. It's like a "jump scare" when I see other men of his age.
I try to avoid them, but when they are in the media it's not always possible.

Timble · 28/08/2025 08:59

I feel sorry for him. His parents are incredibly famous. His dad was one of the best footballers and his mum was in one of the most famous girl bands in the world. So what if he doesn’t have any skills and talent. Most people don’t, most people work average jobs and that’s not really available to him. It’s all well and good that they have lots of money but his life has been in the public eye forever. People waiting to see him fail and loving every second of it.

OneKhakiFish · 28/08/2025 08:54

The media tells their own story! Don't know him personally so can't comment

queenMab99 · 28/08/2025 08:52

I think it is probably all fake, and the whole family are just playing for attention. It's only the attention and publicity they get that keeps the brand of these families going.

I also read today that Victoria's brand is on trouble again

I read the complete opposite. That her beauty department has absolutely soared and she sells an eyeliner every 30 seconds in the UK alone.

I'm now on my third eyeliner and I've got 2 of her eyeshadow pens and her perfume is incredible.

Her beauty brand is absolutely worth every penny

Sales at Victoria Beckham's fashion and beauty brand pass £100m for first time

The brand was founded by the former Spice Girl in 2008

I think the problem for kids with hugely successful parents is that anything ordinary they do looks like failure in comparison. So if they got just an ordinary office or shop job, which there's absolutely nothing wrong with, it looks like failure. They have to try to be some sort of super success which is unachievable and unrealistic for most of them.

Some of Gordon Ramsay’s kids seem to be breaking that rule. For example the eldest is a police officer, another is in the Marines. I’m not a big fan of his programmes, but he seems to be an ok parent. Purported to be good friends with the Beckhams.

I feel sorry for any family where disagreements and rifts are publicly exposed and picked over. First generation privilege seems often to backfire. Brooklyn looks like a lost soul.

PoshDuckQuarkQuark · 28/08/2025 08:46

@Thomasina79 I'd be more amused by people who are interested in the lives of people they have never even met!

Unless you're saying you're besties with posh and becks and have inside information.

You dont have to be rich to be a self entitled spoilt brat. I have taught plenty of poor brats too!

romdowa · 28/08/2025 08:44

Children don't stop talking to their parents for no reason. There is always a reason

2021x · 28/08/2025 08:42

To give perspective I am currently no contact with my parents. Not my choice, but that’s not how my mum sees it.

We are unable to have a conversation without one or both of us ending up feeling like shit. I have suggested family counselling and mediation. mum has refused and at this point it is better for me to focus on building a life for myself.

It is very painful on my end, and I have no doubt that it is painful on hers. I empathise with both parties and hope they can make amends when time has passed.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 28/08/2025 08:38

I always felt sorry for those kids, at least at first, for being given such stupid names.

Firstholiday · 28/08/2025 08:36

I wondered whether the estrangement is a publicity stunt to keep the public on their side. Cannot believe still how DB got that knighthood

Themouserandown · 28/08/2025 08:30

Perhaps he’s grown up and seen things in his parents and their parenting/branding that have changed his opinion about them. He became a man and a husband. Maybe he saw his father and his affairs in a new light. If the affair with his daughter’s teacher and the child born is true, maybe he has feelings about that too, The branding of their family and the photos of his mom draping herself around him like an accessory…

I’m sure they are loving parents but that doesn’t make them good ones.

I think the vow renewal was prob them creating a new memory after whatever went down on their wedding day.

  • loving parents

Kicking people when they're down seems to be an MN speciality.

We don't know what happened so there's no reason to assume he is at fault here. Most likely there's blame on both sides but the people I've known to go NC with their parents have usually done so to protect themselves from very toxic relationships.

It's not his fault if he isn't very clever or talented. He has the advantage of wealth so why not try out different things to see if he can find something that works for him?

Imagine growing up with the eyes of the world on you and having no say or choice in the matter. Having a baying mob of paparazzi banging on your car when you're a small child. I watched the Beckham documentary on Netflix and there was some really disturbing stuff. Add in a father who very publicly cheated on his mother. A mother with an eating disorder. And a father with OCD and maybe a bit controlling? I don't think it would have been the most relaxed and happy childhood.

Totally agree and yes he is a bit wet but i think maybe he met a functional family and realised how dysfunctional his is and his father has had loads of affairs , he wants to find his way and victoria is totally paranoid hes going to start talking about things

IShouldNotCoco · 28/08/2025 08:11

I don’t warm to him when I’ve seen him interviewed.

Well, I know that many private schools don't keep underachievers on. Money seems to talk for these celebs though

Just like the royals. None of the royals would be thrown out of a private school for underachieving, would they. Money and celebrity status does indeed talk.

Denim4ever · 28/08/2025 07:57

Itstwelveoclocksomewhere · 27/08/2025 22:03

You have mentioned private schools twice.
Why?
Children all have different abilities. Some kids, regardless of where they are educated, will never be high achievers.
Surely the aim of any educational institution is to educate their students to meet their full potential. Not everybody has the potential to achieve top scores.

Well, I know that many private schools don't keep underachievers on. Money seems to talk for these celebs though

So, I’ve no idea and little interest about what’s happened but there’s no correlation between working and being a good parent , you do know that don’t you?
