I have a few. Can't say them out loud (except to DH).

MIL & FIL - multi millionaires. Spend loads of money on themselves, lavish holidays, sports cars, only the very best restaurants etc. Never ever do they give a penny to their adult children (and one is flat broke). This is despite them both having been given property and a thriving business by a parent themselves.

My Dad - Overbearing, alcoholic, violent outbursts etc, all through our childhood. He's now decrepit and I have to do so much for him. I resent it.

Brother - keeps saying he's broke, whilst living like a rockstar. Just spend £20k on a holiday, lives in a £600k house, drives top of the range car, but often claims poverty - stop lying!

And breathe......

Anyone else?

People who use mental health issues as an attempt to avoid taking responsibility for their poor behaviour.

I cook my Kievs in individual enamel pie dishes now, no fighting over the garlic butter and they go in the dishwasher too

https://www.sainsburys.co.uk/gol-ui/product/falcon-16cm-rectangular-enamel-pie-dish

I was coming to say something similar, can't understand all the anxiety about losing the filling, I have some ancient Pyrex casseroles with glass lids, the lids are great for anything like kievs and the bonus is that I can add more garlic butter. I put them in the airfyer too.

People who put their feet in seats whilst on public transport. And others who place bags next to themselves to prevent others sitting.

In that situation you can ask to sit there, I've never had anyone refuse so far.

I was telling acquaintances to 'say it, don't spray' it long before Friends, I'm pleased I was able to help Phoebe out!! Embarrassing one's children and grandchildren is always an added bonus!

@Enigma54 It’s shit, isn’t it.

DH used to tell me how well I was coping, well lying in the middle of the street wailing and having the “it’s not fair” tantrum I wanted wasn’t really an option. He meant well but it did bug me.

Utterly unfair.
DP says “ you are doing so well”
Everyone says it. It writhes me. I know they mean well and I feel a bitch thinking these thoughts. But can’t help it.

They get to live their life normally. I get to be poked and prodded for blood, live with one real breast, live with dormant MBC, live with an aggressive other cancer, shit myself every scan results day, deal with neutropenia, deal with oral thrush, deal with being on long term sick, deal with no hair.

One more time ( shouting loudly ) 😆
ITS BLOODY SHIT. I appreciate your sentiment, I really do. But it’s bloody awful!!!!!

I'm very happy with my skinny wrists! 😂 Sadly, it means most of my bracelets no longer sit where they should, minor, but I had one made from my horse's tail and now it virtually fits my elbow!

As she is autistic, she is a poor sleeper

I used to sit with her in her bed, with nothing but my thoughts to entertain me, and wait for over 2 hours for her to sleep.

No exaggeration

(I couldn't leave her alone as she wouldnt understand what she is doing there 😭 and would just get up and play)

Sometimes, when I'd done my 2 hours, she'd fall asleep and then wake up as soon as i get up to leave, and walk to my bed

So now, she goes down in bed next to me, I put the soaps on low, have some me screen time with phone on silent, and she falls asleep when she falls asleep. Often in less than an hour, depending on how tired she is 🥰

I hate how judgy that post to you, I am in a similar situation.

Well1mBack · 27/08/2025 09:07

People who bring their "whole selves to work". Our intranet had an article for our internal equality week in May with a bloke talking about his fluid sex life (multiple partners) and how he celebrated it and was glad to share to raise awareness at work.

Ewww. No thanks, I don't care how many people you shag Euan can you just give me your data reports on time please?! Boak.

One of my best friends sat me down last night and gave me a right old talking to about a recent life decision.
Unfortunately for me he’s completely right.
Bloody annoying to be called out by a man! But to his credit he did it so well and because he cares. My sticking my head in the sand now has to end so he’s created work for me with this revelation too. Annoying.

That's a true friend though. Who cares enough to give you a shake. My best friend did that to me as well and she was right to. It is hard to listen to but ultimately our friends know us well.

Thepeopleversuswork · 27/08/2025 07:52

People who unnecessarily and repeatedly call you on Teams without checking if you’re busy to ask trivial questions which could be dealt with using an email or a message.

I have a colleague who does this four or five times a day, usually when my “do not disturb” status is on and always when I am on another call or on a deadline. When I answer (which I do about half the time), he will say: “Sorry to call.” If you’re really sorry don’t do it all the sodding time.

Its always trivial and non essential questions or just wanting to shoot the breeze.

My BIL’s partner who likes to copy us.

if we are happy. He has to be happier.

if my husband has a good work life balance - the BIL’s partner says it sounds boring.

we drive a small polo, he said he couldn’t be seen dead in it.

we buy a 3 bedroom new build, he buys a 5 bed in the middle of nowhere and is pissed that no one comes to visit him.

So he didn't copy your car or your house?

The word 'Lush' used in any context other than a tropical rain forest!

You’re best off steering clear of the Welsh then!

TeenLifeMum · 27/08/2025 07:47

Cyclists. Yes I know very healthy etc but on country lanes I can’t pass so I’m stuck driving at 5mph. The fact I’m in my car suggests I planned to go faster than that.

Also, people on here who criticise an op clearly in distress because she spelled something wrong or changes story to he instead of she half way through when the sex didn’t matter for the story one bit so they can’t possibly understand what her post is about when most normal people get what she means.

Startrekobsessed · 27/08/2025 07:45

My MIL is a good cook, she makes lovely home cooked food. My kids go to her once a week after school and without fail she’ll give them processed crap, chicken nuggets and smiley potato faces. Irrationally pisses me off but obviously I can’t say anything, it feels good to write it down here!

None of my friends can make a decision! No one will say where they want to go, what they want to eat/ drink etc . “ I don’t mind” “ You choose” etc

Oooh yes that resonates with me too. The worst is when you do all the organising and someone suggests something else would have been better, or says "why don't we do this instead" at the time you are about to 'do it' 😡

Meh, to me polish will always be the correct word.

Maybe it's age-related? Or regional differences? I've always said 'varnish', and 'polish' sounds a bit pretentious to me. But I never wear either.

heartsinvisiblefury · 27/08/2025 07:07

People who live through their children and behave as if their children are the first to do anything.

ChaToilLeam · 27/08/2025 07:06

My friend who is kind and generous but has to utter EVERY thought she has aloud. I really noticed it when we went away for the weekend together. Just constant weighing up of minor decisions like what to eat at Burger King, it was exhausting. Her DM is the same and when they are in the same room they do this but over each other so it's a cacophony.

Another friend has a "non-binary" partner and is fully on the pronoun bandwagon. This partner is a big hairy bloke wearing eyeshadow and wearing a (too tight) pink T-shirt. I don't think his sex is in any question to anyone with eyes.

DM never walks anywhere, has always taken the car even for the 5 minute trip to the shops. Now she is getting less and less mobile and has difficulty walking any distance, she rarely leaves the house. DF has tried for years to get her to do more but she won't, and her world has shrunk so much. She just won't help herself though, and I dread the day when DF is no longer around because I see her becoming very dependent. She's already very negative and prone to catastrophising and she already texts 20 times a day about nonsense.

Hiphopahip · 27/08/2025 07:04

I’ve got a few more.

People on this website who respond to posts berating the OP for even posting in the first place as they don’t deem it worthy of discussion. They seem to not understand this is a chat forum and people can chat about whatever the fuck they want. You’re not more superior because you don’t have an opinion.
Same applies for people not being poor enough, like it’s a race to the bottom.

I also hate the people that post in AIBU about something beyond stupid their partner has done, like “DH went for a kebab whilst I was mid c-section and then dripped bbq sauce on our newborns head. AIBU to be a bit annoyed by this”. Ffs, just start a post to moan about your POS boyfriend and let rip. No need to fanny around phrasing it as a poor lost soul wanting reassurance that babies actually thrive with BBQ sauce instead of milk. You know it’s not unreasonable, you just want to moan and that’s fine!

Varnish is correct though… I think polish is an Americanism. But it’s literally varnish for nails. Both terms are fine.

(hahaha turns out people incorrectly correcting people annoys me- sorry theblackcat)

KimberleyClark · 27/08/2025 06:54

People who speak really quietly and won’t speak more loudly even when asked to by people who can’t hear them. Seems so passive aggressive.

When people say nail 'varnish' instead nail polish. Sorry OP. 😊I cannot stand it, I just want to stamp my feet and say it's POLISH you imbecile! I also hate when people say 'telly' for tv, as if they're in the 1960s. Even worse when they say the telly.

Also the sound of people crunching loudly. And the sound of typing on computer keyboards really loudly.
Loud clocks that sound like a ticking time bomb. I could go on and on.

Edited
