I have a few. Can't say them out loud (except to DH).

MIL & FIL - multi millionaires. Spend loads of money on themselves, lavish holidays, sports cars, only the very best restaurants etc. Never ever do they give a penny to their adult children (and one is flat broke). This is despite them both having been given property and a thriving business by a parent themselves.

My Dad - Overbearing, alcoholic, violent outbursts etc, all through our childhood. He's now decrepit and I have to do so much for him. I resent it.

Brother - keeps saying he's broke, whilst living like a rockstar. Just spend £20k on a holiday, lives in a £600k house, drives top of the range car, but often claims poverty - stop lying!

And breathe......

Anyone else?

I cook my Kievs in individual enamel pie dishes now, no fighting over the garlic butter and they go in the dishwasher too

https://www.sainsburys.co.uk/gol-ui/product/falcon-16cm-rectangular-enamel-pie-dish

I cook ours in a tinfoil container, no garlic butter is lost anywhere, if it leaks, it gets poured over the veg.

My husband being a big dozy bull in a fucking China shop!!! He’s so fucking careless, I’m sick of shit getting damaged. An example. Brand new worktop waiting in the hallway for the joiner to start work tomorrow. He’s just slammed the fucking front door into it! Once because he’s forgotten I can forgive but he did it 3 times while walking through the door once!!! Why??? 😭😭 and if I catch him cutting stuff on it without a chopping board I’m likely to fucking knife him.

If the chopping board is one of those with a decorative side, he'll do his chopping on that instead of using the work side.

People who take for ever choosing a coffee,or sandwich,or cake. Then they have to start asking a dozen questions about what they've ordered. I'm standing in the queue behind them, gradually losing the will to live as they hum and haw. Ditto people who take an age deciding which meal they want in a restaurant or cafe.

Christ, my DM does similar. Whenever I pick my DC up one will inevitably raise their voice or whine about something. DM will turn to me and sneer "they don't act like this for me, it's only when YOU'RE around." Oh do fuck off.

"ah, they're obviously confident in my love"

MIL and FIL only ever talking about themselves. If we throw something into the conversation about us or the kids, we get a blank stare, no comment, until they can think of some way to turn this into a conversation about them. Example, we said DS was going to get married in France. Cue long stares, then FIL pipes up about the last time he was in France. No other comments made about the fairly big news that was.

Based on this and your op, they seem to be pretty self-centred.

cadburyegg · 27/08/2025 16:37

someone I know has quite a clingy codependent relationship with her husband.

The last time I saw her we were out for a 2 hour walk and her husband rang her twice in that time just for a chat. It happens if we go out for a meal too - which I find really rude.

They have 2 kids and they absolutely can’t do anything separate without the other. Every medical appointment, both of them have to attend. She made her husband come home early once to attend a routine hospital appointment with her. They took one of their kids to A&E with a stomach bug and got someone to babysit the other one. Lucky them that they have so many people who can help but then they will moan that X family member wouldn’t babysit so they could go out for a meal together. They have so much help, but don’t appreciate it

A friend texted to suggest coffee on a particular day. I agreed to the day, but I’m still waiting to find out where and what time. I know I'll be the one doing the chasing.

That’s really disrespectful.

That’s doubly annoying because they abdicate responsibility for the decision and might then feel free to blame and criticise if things turn out badly!

In my experience, usually those kind of people don’t blame or criticise. They are just flexible. I know it can be annoying but they don’t mean harm.

Why not just tell them I want you to make a call as I am tired of looking for options.

The meanings and usage of words change. I know that. I’ve been delighted by it all my life.
It’s what makes English such a vibrant, interesting language.

However….

Daughter: Where are my earrings? I’m so confused.

Me: No, you’re not. You’re puzzled. Or perplexed.

Daughter: What?

Me: Confusion implies too much information, insufficiently processed. Your problem is that you have too little information, and you know what information you’re short of. You’re not confused. You’re perplexed.

Daughter: Does it matter?

Me: Yes! For some reason, it really, really does.

Daughter: God - it’s not that deep.

Me: See? That one I can live with.

You both have a point ( or points?) 😁 Please correct me English is my second language and after all these years, I still get confused or perplexed. 🤔

KievLoverTwo · 27/08/2025 16:28

There are a lot of things that pee me off that I chose to remain quiet about.

KIEV IS NOT ONE OF THEM.

@Doingtheboxerbeat was right to be distraught. I'm so sorry for your unhappiness. I hope you feel better in a week or two.

@Aliflowers, @Myfridgeiscool, @Aliflowers. How very dare you suggest degrading perfection by placing it on a slice of bread, resulting in one tragically imperfect kiev and one even less perfect soggy piece of not even toasted garlic bread?! Go away and think about what you've said and come back to me when you're ready to repent please.

@Sharkpenis - given your username, I'm going to guess that you get up to all kinds of unorthodox tomfoolery. So, it's no surprise to me that you suggest cooking the kiev UPSIDE DOWN. Have you never heard of an upside down cake? It gets cooked upside down for a very good reason! The domed roof of a kiev is sculpted to perfection to allow the heat to rise, bringing the godlyjuice to the perfect temperature. What exactly d'ya think's going to happen when you put a FLAT roof on it, huh? I bet you're the kind of person who'd plain rip the roof off your own house and shove a flat roof in its place, just because you can.

Anarchy.

Disgraceful.

@DilkushaKitchen - you are a smart person.

@ChelseaDetective - excellent work.

@BCBird - as the kids like to say - KIEV R SRS BSNS, kindly contain your laughter.

@Kurokurosuke and @itsgettingweird - I hope you don't mind that I now class you as firm friends.

@Kilhopper27 - you're a genius.

And, last but not least, @JudgeJ - I have reserved my best side eye/lemon face scowl just for you.

I hope this clears the matter up for all involved.

The LA lying to us when they know that we know they are lying. They have no shame.
To be honest everything to do with the LA pisses me off.

Ooh, I've thought of a few more :

People that were born in the UK, talking with a Caribbean accent, so, for eg. instead of saying "ninety nine", they would say "nanty nan". I think it's like a street accent, that youngsters think makes them look cool. It doesn't, you just look young and dumb. Normally the men who do this, have trousers that sit below their bum cheeks with their underpants showing. Urgh.

People at T junctions, who are turning right, but have not pulled their car up to the front right part of the lane, meaning that even though I am turning left, I can't get past you to do so. Makes me want to keep my hand on the horn indefinitely.

I get why these things annoy you. I don't get why you 'can't really say so' though. Who do you think is going to be offended by you moaning about shit drivers at T-junctions?!

Summertimesun · 27/08/2025 16:13

I’d love to say “perhaps you are the problem” to several people. It sounds too spiteful so I wouldn’t say it but there are a few people in my life who seem to have absolutely zero self awareness and can’t take gentle hints. Also - focus your energy on bettering yourself rather than being jealous of everyone else and trying to take everyone else down a peg.
I wish I was one of those tactful, personable people who can say these things in a gentle way but I’m not!

Both deserve to be shot.

I saw a woman with her bare feet on the seat opposite her on the train yesterday yuck. She kept stretching her feet and legs out, had very dry skin. I was just thinking, take note of the carriage I'm on in case I get the same one back in the morning I wont sit there.

Haha DH’s car is like that. I refuse to drive it. It keeps doing emergency stops and it feels like you’ve hit someone / something but it just thinks you’re too close to a stationary object( when you’re not). It stops us with a massive jolt. It’s horrible. Have to turn it off every single journey. So it’s like being a pilot in the cockpit every single time we get in. Sooo annoying.

Edited

Yeah, I have experienced that twice. I still leave that option on, but I think I may have to turn that off in the future too.

I turn off lane-keeping assist, because it's rubbish and has at times tried to push me in another lane, because it got confused about the lines on the road. I have even had it trying to steer me into grass or into a car in the lane next to me.

I turn off max speed warnings, because they are wrong more than 50% of the time and it keeps beeping at me. It tries to read the speed signs, but often if will read a sign from another road and tells me I am speeding when I am not. Very distracting.

When it freezes I often get a sensor warning on the dash with a lot of text. Thing is, these warnings typically occur when I am of the freaking highway going over 80 kph. I am not going to read a bunch of text when I am busy driving. Ugh, who designed these systems?

landlordhell · 27/08/2025 15:48

GreyPearlSatin · 27/08/2025 15:43

I usually idle for a few minutes before leaving, because my stupid car has all this automation that I have to turn off which make it dangerous to drive otherwise. Sometimes I need some time to set up my navigation system.

People who sit with their car idling. Great for the environment. Great for people around it. Great for your wallet using up petrol.

Why do they do this? Genuingely why? Listening to the radio is a crap excuse. Most people can do that on their phone.

I live opposite a school. The amount of parents who sit there for 20 minutes with their car noisily humming is mind blowing.

Then in the winter when drivers decide that they cant possibly drive for a few minutes in a cold car so set it idling for 10 minutes before they leave, waking everyone up.

They are all twats. All of them I bet they park in disabled bays too even though they shouldn't.

When people say nail 'varnish' instead nail polish. Sorry OP. 😊I cannot stand it, I just want to stamp my feet and say it's POLISH you imbecile! I also hate when people say 'telly' for tv, as if they're in the 1960s. Even worse when they say the telly.

Also the sound of people crunching loudly. And the sound of typing on computer keyboards really loudly.
Loud clocks that sound like a ticking time bomb. I could go on and on.

What do you mean? It’s always been called nail varnish .

Tradespeople not turning up or coming to quote and then either not bothering to send it or purposely quoting too high.

  1. Stop wasting my time. When I ask you to quote I always make it very clear (with pictures!) of what I want. If you don't want to do it or can't, don't say you'll quote.
  1. Why outprice yourself? I dont understand! You dont want the job. Fine. Send me a text to say you are not doing it. Sending a crazy high quote just means that I think you are either a chancer or too expensive generally so I'll never ask you for a quote again.

If you're honest and say the job isnt for you, I might contact you again. Lie or be unreliable and there is not a chance you'll ever get work from me.

Hate this. Has happened twice this summer . If they don’t show then they don’t get a second chance .

This is so annoying! I always end up making the decision
