I have a few. Can't say them out loud (except to DH).

MIL & FIL - multi millionaires. Spend loads of money on themselves, lavish holidays, sports cars, only the very best restaurants etc. Never ever do they give a penny to their adult children (and one is flat broke). This is despite them both having been given property and a thriving business by a parent themselves.

My Dad - Overbearing, alcoholic, violent outbursts etc, all through our childhood. He's now decrepit and I have to do so much for him. I resent it.

Brother - keeps saying he's broke, whilst living like a rockstar. Just spend £20k on a holiday, lives in a £600k house, drives top of the range car, but often claims poverty - stop lying!

And breathe......

Anyone else?

  • my ex husband - everything is always someone’s else’s fault, he’s a crap father and I just feel so sorry for my 2 eldest.
  • my PIL so hands on with the first 3 grandchildren (SIL’s), regularly dogs, horse and house sit for weeks at a time for BIL, sees GGD regularly, but only sees our son 4 times a year!
  • my brother - my poor mum does absolutely everything for him, I don’t understand how hard it is being a single father with 2 children (he has one 50/50 and the other EOW), but my mum does the pick ups, the dinners and everything in between. I feel bad if I ask to help with DS7. My DH work away all week and I’m on my own with 3 children?!?
  • my colleague is soo loud when he eats, I have to put my headphone in.
  • my garden, needs to much work doing to it and gardeners/landscapers never come back to me.
  • next doors blood dog that barks as soon as I enter my garden.
  • school mums - no I don’t want to join the bloody class WhatsApp group as your precious knobhead son has lost his water bottle for 78th time this week

Ooh another one! Don’t know how to describe this , but people who always offer an explanation - no matter how outlandish - for something that you are moaning about. For example, if I moan that someone has parked across two spaces, instead of saying “Yeah, what an inconsiderate git”, they say something like “ Maybe they had a medical emergency and had to pull up quickly” etc etc. My BF does this all the time and it makes me want to scream!

Sounds like a lot of mumsnetters. Maybe they had.. have… but maybe they needed too. 😂

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 26/08/2025 18:41

Oh, and this is strangely specific but -

everyone who admires my dog and then says 'I had a Jack Russell once' (or their mother did, or their friend, or there was one down the road...)

She's a fucking Patterdale. They aren't like Jack Russells - they are WORSE! A MILLION TIMES WORSE!

Phew. And also she's a bitch, not a 'lovely boy'. Thank you.

Seawolves · 26/08/2025 18:40

People who stare at my little boy because he's disabled and in a wheelchair. Yes, sometimes he screams because he's in pain, yes sometimes he has his dummy because it helps him cope with his pain. Yes, he makes random movements because of his disability. Yes sometimes he has a seizure and that makes him cry out too but you don't need to stare (and I do mean stare rather than just look).

Yes, this. I just can't afford it so I'll have to continue with the food noise and working out everyday 😩

OMG - picky bits! Cant believe I didn’t think of that. I even hate seeing it written down. Sounds so gross 🤢

Or bits of anything, come to that. Picking up a few bits, or packing a few bits - I don’t know why I hate it, but I do. What’s wrong with saying things?

I agree with you. Also, "nibbles". They both make me want to punch the person saying it.

My friend who continually rehomes animals that she's rehomed and has had more 'love of my life's than I've had hot dinners over the last 15 years.

Ex mil messaging me asking me what exh is doing, etc when I have nothing to do with him at all.

Katemax82 · 26/08/2025 18:37

My 12 year old daughter has an eating disorder she's having treatment for. If she needs a snack or anything she will just come and tell me she is hungry but won't say what she wants, I have to list everything we have in the house. Last night I had spent ages tidying the kitchen after my 5 month old finally fell asleep and she did it, I got slightly irritated with her not just saying what she wants so she stormed off to her room and wouldn't talk to me. Then my husband bollocked me because we have to get her to eat more. My 7 year old autistic son will constantly say "I want a snack" but not specifically what. It's like I spend my life thinking up snacks and stuff

LittleCarrot12 · 26/08/2025 18:34

My boss.
Micro manager, disorganised, passed the buck when it goes wrong, plays people off against one another, refuses to adhere to policies she doesn’t agree with.

Would have left years ago but due to mat leave couldn’t. The team are finally realising she’s the issue and are all coming together to speak up.

if you ask her she’s the best person

Thepeopleversuswork · 26/08/2025 18:33

People who are professionally “nice” and never offend anyone but don’t have anything about them: no personality or opinions on anything and won’t ever challenge or debate something or stand up for themselves.

You know the type: constant over-enthusiastic questions about you and your life, saying they “don’t mind” in response to any questions, laughing in the right places, bending over backwards to help and advise others when it’s not necessary but never saying or thinking anything in the slightest way different or surprising.

Invariably they irritate people with their lack of substance and then get huffy about being taken advantage of.

It probably sounds really unkind and I wouldn’t say it to somebody, but I find people like this incredibly draining to be around.

Do we have the same MIL? 😄

When I told mine I’d been diagnosed with breast cancer, she gave me a long blank stare, then turned to my husband and said “Well obviously, her having cancer is better than having hay fever like me. I’ll never be cured of my problem”

I didn’t expect any sympathy, so I wasn’t surprised!

OMG!!

I am completely BU and obviously can’t repeat this IRL but I’m currently next to a middle class Boden mum on the train who is driving me potty with her perfection.

Her son’s eating vegetables and nuts (tomatoes!!! Pistachios!!), he’s well behaved - adorable, in fact, they’re on their way to daddy who is cooking dinner for them (‘aren’t we lucky, Oscar!’) she’s got designer jeans on, pronounces her Ts, has a clean buggy, is pretty and slim. And I wish she’d just fuck right off and stop reminding me some people are just better at life!

🤣🤣🤣

PoliteSquid · 26/08/2025 18:32

An old friend I’ve had to stop contact with because they are adamant that having a heart transplant ruined their life!! Also convinced that transplant patients “these days” have it so much easier.
Every fucking conversation ever was about their dreadful life. I just couldn’t cope anymore… also couldn’t actually say that out loud!!

PIL who won’t sort out wills or POA. They are mid-80s both have health issues and they live abroad. Just fucking sort it out you idiots because death is a certainty and if you become incapacitated DH will have a hellish time with no POA. I’m not just pissed off I’m incandescent with rage at them.

My Dad did a POA a few years ago. He wasn't ill or anything, just felt it was time. Fast forward a few years, and a few illnesses later, and I can't tell you how many times we've relied on this. I have no clue what we would have done without it. So I agree, this really needs to get sorted!

My chicken Kiev leaked all the buttery juice all over the foil and I'm absolutely distraught 😳.

Apparently you should put a piece of bread underneath whilst cooking and make garlic bread.

I work with children and young people with disabilities.

There is nothing that I find more infuriating than parents who are exaggerating their children’s needs because they want more benefit money/respite care/to excuse their own crap parenting.

I regularly fantasise about telling them they’re talking shit and that everyone knows it. But, instead, I am limited to writing careful worded reports which are simply added to everyone else’s carefully written reports because there is absolutely no way that we have the time/energy to divert to fight their bullshit.

Is that not being complicit in benefit fraud though?

Cinaferna · 26/08/2025 18:29

Being the one who sorts out everything for my parents, for decades, despite not even living close because the other two are so ditsy. I have ADHD. I'm supposed to be the ditsy one Grin but in comparison, I'm the sensible, methodical plodder so get landed with literally months of unpaid skivvying and admin on behalf of my even more hopelessly ditsy parents. Just spent yet another entire day sorting out their paperwork when I should be at work, while one sibling is off her face at festivals and the other is swanning off to yet another long haul holiday. But... They are lovely and I love them, I wish they wouldn't just stare like bewildered kittens at me whenever any grown up grunt work needs to be done.

Fuck me, that's one of the worst things I've read on here.

Hope you're OK 💐

Thank you so much, that’s kind of you! I’m recovering very well 🌺

My DH is lovely and I’d never want to fall out with her, for his sake. It stung a bit when she said it! - but I have to accept her for how she is, she won’t change. She’s fallen out with absolutely every other family member over the years and now has no one left except us, but still can’t imagine her behaviour is the reason. It’s everyone else who’s the problem!

Distant family member has just been made a “nanny” at 34. Announced on FB.
The 16 year old daughter who is pregnant was removed from her care as a toddler, for a year or so. Did not attend school for the last two years despite school attendance officers visiting ect. So no social skills, no importance of education, just sat at home in a flat on benefits vaping and morbidly obese. No prospects, nothing.
To make it worse, this whole child’s life she has constantly demanded pets- hamsters, rabbits, g pigs, dogs, cats. She gets them, and they are either dead or rehomed within 3 months. So my hopes aren’t high for a baby tbh.

Anyway pregnancy is announced on FB, I’m going to be a nanny at 34 ect. Along come the swarms of comments “ahhh congratulations hun” ect ect ect

Pisses me off that nobody is saying what we’re all thinking.
You failed your kid.

Jeez. Nothing to boast about is it and saps lapping it up. Fucking grim.

I've been keeping a list of these for a while. I swear I'm not uptight. Buckle up, it's a long list.

  • specific requests for low value small ads items instead of just giving it away for free or asking for a euro, magnum mini ice creams, haribo, specific brands of coffee
  • people who bring children to saunas, even if they're quiet.
  • mumblers
  • knitted cardigans that look like jackets worn by muscle men, especially if they're polyester
  • people who make obvious suggestions about how to identify murder victims from Interpol posts, as if the police hadn't thought of doing that already, "check the serial number", "check the dental records".
  • people gifting voucher gifts like 1x Babysitting or 1x romantic cooked meal. What a lame idea.
  • Christmas dinner flavoured sandwiches/anything. Christmas panini, straight in the bin.
  • People who wear matching Christmas pyjamas.
  • people don't wash their clothes or bedding before using it.
  • people who say "you'll be speaking to my lawyer" about minor inconveniences. You know they don't have a lawyer and aren't intimidating anyone.
  • people who offer dodgy financial courses directed towards multiple audiences at once, advice like "stop living paycheck to paycheck" and then "buy rental property". Huh?
  • people who comment on social media about AI destroying the planet and then have photos of either meat or their short and long haul trips on their profile, or both.
  • old people who complain about the behaviour of "kids nowadays". We're one generation away from beating kids into submission at school and home, it might take time to adjust.
  • people who say they "dont watch TV" to sound superior but stream for hours. No one watches TV like its the 90s, you're better than no-one.
  • people who have feather pillows on their sofa with the feathers poking out and stabbing you in the arm. Get new ones or stop inviting me to your house.
  • people who sins"price point" instead of price.
  • people who post chatgpt answers to questions on social media, like they're doing a public service
  • people who comment on recipes and and about the weirdest substitutes, courgettes for sugar? NO, obviously not Janet.
  • people who say "picky bits" for food
  • people who suggest donating book hoards to local libraries, no one wants ancient dusty moldy books.
  • people who dont have a simple prepared answer to "what do you do?" and explain that it's complicated. I dont care what you do Marcus, it's small talk.
Edited

"knitted cardigans that look like jackets worn by muscle men, especially if they're polyester"
