Moving Furniture - AIBU to think everyone says this?

I was moving a small wardrobe earlier and it got me thinking - does any British person ever move a piece of furniture with someone else and not say “To me, to you”.

The Chuckle Brothers are truly ingrained in British culture.

If I recall correctly, you need to pop it in the freezer for the ultimate experience @OliveWah. Chocolate cracks, caramel can be peeled off, biscuity bit goes all frozen and somehow even more delicious.

Allllllllright, if you insist, I'll give it a go. Not because I want to, you understand, but purely in the interests of "science".

(Quick q. before I begin: How do you resist eating it before it's frozen?)

Beryls · 01/09/2025 16:46

This and if im asking if people want mash or chips for example with tea, ebery single time in my head it says 'Daddy or chips'

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 01/09/2025 12:49

Now I want a Boost bar, @ArtesianWater!

Tillow4ever · 01/09/2025 12:41

I’ve never, ever said this and I’m a 45 year old British woman. Mind you I’m normally swearing that it’s too heavy for me and I’m being forced to walk backwards with it at a faster pace than I feel comfortable with…

Oooh, I've thought of another one; whenever anyone says "boost", DH and I chime in with "Boost, Boost, Cadbury's Boost"! I had one the other day, it was very sickly and nowhere near as nice as I remembered. Sad

Thanks all for your responses.

This also got me thinking about the “wahay” when a member of bar staff drops a glass
in the pub. Extra points if someone comments “sack the juggler”.

I was in a pub recently when a glass was dropped and no-one did it and I felt a bit sad. Then I realised I hadn’t done it and that it was incumbent on us all to keep these things going.

Not to bring down the mood, but I worked as a bartender for years in various establishments and we always found it incredibly irritating when people did that. It's equivalent to a bunch of people standing round your computer in an office and pointing and laughing at you when you accidentally delete something important at a really busy time.

@TheOtherAgentJohnson yes! I do!

I also say Just the one, Mrs Wembley; and nobody knows what I'm on about but I can't stop saying it after so many years.

Ooh, me too. And my sisters.

BauhausOfEliott · 27/08/2025 09:57

In our house, someone usually starts singing the Bernard Cribbens song 'Right Said Fred'.

"I said I've got a feeling / If we remove the ceiling... and Charlie said let's have another cuppa tea and I said, right-o"

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 27/08/2025 09:55

I’m a Brit born and bred, and I never heard it!

My favourite ‘removals theme’ is Right Said Fred - there’s a cartoon version on YouTube somewhere.

I play a sport where the phrase 'just the one' comes up quite frequently- thank you 'On the Up'.

teamonkey345 · 27/08/2025 08:46

Also… ‘that’s handy Harry, stick it in the oven!’ 😂😂😂🤷🏼‍♀️

I'm also incapable of seeing a picture of an armadillo without saying Smooth on the inside, crunchy on the outside.

I am incapable of watching any cookery programme where they describe something as having a ‘crispy outside and smooth/soft inside’ without shouting ARMADILLOS

Me. Couldn't bear them. Sorry.

Both ‘to me - to you’ and ‘pivot’ get honourable mentions on the Cultural references the young uns don’t get thread, @RabbitintheHeadLamps.

I alway used to think “One each end and steady as she goes - tried to lift it, couldn’t even shift it” when moving furniture. .

I will now have this earworm for the rest of the day! (And so, we, had a cup of tea…)

birdling · 27/08/2025 07:17

Listen very carefully...

OliveWah · 27/08/2025 02:29

Yep, I'm pretty sure it's the law!

If anyone so much as mentions the moon in our house, they are met with a rousing chorus of "Full moon, 'alf moon, total eclipse"!

purpleme12 · 27/08/2025 00:56

Thank you I have not seen this before

Will try remember to watch this again tomorrow when I can hear it better

Love Chuckle Brothers
Can't believe he died ☹️

petergriffinsdeadfrog · 27/08/2025 00:33

”To me to you” and “PIVOT”. Makes things so much more light hearted and bloody funny Grin

OrangeFluff · 27/08/2025 00:30

Using “ah go on” when offering a cup of tea.

purpleme12 · 27/08/2025 00:27

I loved the Chuckle Brothers

And best thing was that when my child was younger I showed her the DVDs and she laughed her head off at them!

Timeless

I so would have taken her to see them if they'd still been performing
