Rip the flags down! A call for action!

Why though? My question was because I don't really understand - I'm Scottish. I live in Scotland. All a flag really signifies is the country you're in so I find it difficult to understand how it portrays racism/threats. I am trying to better understand this.

You'd have fun in my area. As well as the flags on lamp posts, people are spray painting roundabouts, the white strips on zebra crossings and even some of the little white blocks on give way lines. People are even joking that they should spray paint the St George's flag in pot holes, to force the council to do something about them.

@Valeriekati have no idea but I suspect any cohort of men will have similar proportions of offending and well adjusted lawful behavior. It’s being a man not the colour of skin or political affiliation which is the crucial marker. I wish people could understand that

the govts first job is to protect its borders… and successive ones have failed spectacularly in that.

I don't like the reason why they have all started appearing but I think most of those doing it will get bored with it soon and get back to their other hobbies.

True they might not be safe from those men. But do you remember the Southport riots and how a large percentage of those flag cloaked English knights had prior for domestic abuse or assault?

When I see the flag of St George flown on April 23 from our parish church and others I think ‘lovely’ and get a little patriotic tingle. When I see it hung at seeming half mast off random lamp posts and bridges I think ‘how grim’ and that it’s a sad looking sight.

when I see the flags - of both sides - in estates to intimidate I feel no pride. And I would contend that most right thinking people don’t either.

It’s not just England.

You are lucky in England to a degree. There would be a real active danger to life in other places if you took down flags.

It’s fucking sad that we’re seemingly the only country in the world where flying our flag is seen as racist and the ‘nice’ ppl are offended and ashamed by it. It used to be associations with football hooliganism, but we’re not the only country with twattish thugs. Ppl are still offended when they’re displayed during sporting events at pubs etc. Now it’s being used by racists to demonstrate the increasing surge in asylum seekers and illegal migrants - but other countries racists use theirs in the same way too.

Not EVERY St. George’s cross is a racist emblem though. Racists make up the minority of the country’s population, so why do they get to dictate how our flag is used and seen by ourselves and others?

Context is everything and it’s easy to associate the current wave of flags with the protests, I’m sure the majority are, but the same association persists regardless and not just in the present situation. The ppl who object to seeing the England flag (who are English) would not object to visiting another country and seeing their flags displayed - they’d read it as national pride.

It has been decided that due to acts of men that walked the earth hundreds of years before we were born modern multicultural England is not allowed to have national pride.
