I was thinking a classroom game as well, one where they take turns writing an instruction, probably nothing. 💐

Do kids not have any privacy anymore? If I did read a note like this I wouldn't even mention it. Also why aren't you getting the 10 year old to clean out his own school bag?

I just googled the phrase about the blue cup and the one about the cold floors, and the only thing that came up, in each case, was this Mumsnet thread. So it doesn't look as if it is an excerpt from an internet fanfiction or anything of that sort.

Obvious answer is paranoid female relative or carer who think she is helping.

Does either grandma do after school care? An older aunt or great aunt?

Does he attend after school club or go to a childminder?

It screams older lady to me (the sitting on a cold floor thing particularly), rather than predatory person trying to do harm

Sounds like a set of clues that could have been part of an English lesson. The paper then ended up in the scrap paper tray and your son took the paper out to draw/write on. He didn't have time, so he stuffed it into his own drawer and when they emptied their drawers at the end of term, he stuffed the whole lot into his bag without looking at any of it. That's what would have happened in my classroom anyway.

I think you should ask him if he's spoken to any strange adults lately or if there are any new adults working at the school. I also think you should tell the school about the note, in case other children are receiving weird notes, too. Clearly someone is trying to frighten him.

If he's saying he has never seen the figurine or the envelope with the list before, you don't recognise the handwriting, and he doesn't seem at all interested, I'd wonder if someone put them in his bag by accident.

Of course, it could be a secret code - no one to save Ali from evil!! - in which case of course he can't tell you.

I wouldn't worry too much. My DD and her mates all seem to be weirdos in their own way. Mad as a box of frogs! They always seem to be saying or drawing weird shit. But they are just mucking about being silly. I'm sure whoever wrote it was doing the same.

Some kids that age have lovely writing too not mine though who write like they are being electrocuted!

I really wouldn't think twice about this. 10 year olds have their own little things going on.

Probably something another child's older sibling has been doing. It reminds me of the secret messages in kids books. Basically you write out some random sounding phrases for your friend, but actually the code is the first letter of every word or something. Then your parents or annoying siblings can't read your secret plans!

Calm down OP. It’s an odd little note. Make a mental note of it, but it’s not something you need to get freaked out by.

Please don’t make too big a deal out of this. It might not be a bad thing.

He wanted the figurine but is embarrassed to admit it. Bless him, he’s only young still.

I used to write a lot as a child, with a friend. We’d write fanfiction before we even knew that’s what we were doing, and our own stories - plot storylines and characters - we’d give each other notes and jottings like this too and some of them would have looked very bizarre and weird to our parents, I’m sure. I would have been hideously embarrassed if my parents had asked me about it. He could be doing something similar, there could be no bad intent here, and nothing in the note sounds that sinister anyway.

Regardless of what it means, he’ll only clam up if you make an issue of it and you won’t get the truth out of him. It’ll only push him further away. Keep your eyes peeled for anything else you might find, but don’t ‘confront’ him as such would be my advice.

I think you need to go into the dark kitchen by yourself now, after midnight, take a deep breath, pour some juice in the blue cup, and see what happens.

Ah ok I was imagining younger. Possibility a game they’ve been playing at school? He might be scared to get into trouble

If it’s clearly an adult/older child I would be contacting the school.
