Found this bloody weird note….

Bit of a strange one. I finally got around to emptying my son’s schoolbag and amongst the utter rubbish (including a Batman figurine he insists isn’t his!) there was an envelope tucked inside with just “For You” written on it.

Inside was a list of instructions. Things like:

  • “Don’t forget to lock the back door at night.”
  • “Children should never sit on cold floors.”
  • “The blue cup is for milk, not juice.”
  • “Be careful who you trust with secrets.”

I asked DC where it came from and he just shrugged and said, dunno. Asked on my parent friends WhatsApp and they had no idea.

DH says I’m being dramatic and it’s probably nothing, but I feel really weird about it

i don’t even know what I’m asking but, wtf!

That is terrifying! Take the note into the school immediately and report it to the headteacher and his class teacher. I would also post on the class WhatsApp group that a strange and inappropriate letter came home in your child's bag, encourage all parents to be vigilant, check for the same and report it to the school if they find anything. This might be some ones idea of a sick joke but its not funny and shouldn't be happening.

Jbd1 · 27/08/2025 22:04

Not true! Teachers have a duty of care and we’d investigate this thoroughly

Engagebrain · 26/08/2025 10:27

Reminds me of a trail of instructions I found in Sainsburys recently. Small pieces of paper were left around the isles with handwritten instructions on. Very intriguing but obviously some kids playing a game, some kind of treasure hunt?

PS why am I still engaging? Ans: I don't feel like working so am chatting shit on MN instead. Avoidance of reality...

You felt impassioned and fired up… work took a back seat. Fair enough!

Wow! I just said I didn't believe someone would make up that list! I didnt "have her back"! I first followed the thread because it was interesting, and then because it gave such a clear illustration of how people blithely and confidently reply on threads without having read them, which I found annoying and interesting in equal measure.

I wish I was young enough to have a 10 year old child! And it sounds like OP is in the UK, which I am not. Also, you can't namechange in the middle of a thread any more, which I understand the reasons for but which does cut out some amusing shenanigans!

I agree with you that the OP was probably telling the truth. The incident is odd enough to provoke a bit of thought but not dramatic enough to be worth inventing. And we now have a credible explanation (Roblox etc) which even mentions a blue cup for milk. So quite why people are doubting the OP, I don't know.

It's odd that the DC both denies knowledge of the note and seems totally incurious about how it got there. If it had happened to me aged 10 to find a mysterious cryptic note in my bag, I'd have gone full Sherlock. Children must be very blase these days. Perhaps PP up thread are right: he knows perfectly well what it is, but suspects Mum may not approve of whatever game he plays. Very likely.

I would be straight up the school. Its definitely not funny and needs to be stopped before someone gets really upset.

Teachers are invariably overjoyed to be confronted with shite like this.

You can guarantee when they get back to the staffroom they are saying, "Callum's mother is so extremely sensible to storm into the school demanding answers about this piece of paper with year 5 cryptic scribbles about a mobile phone game from last year's class. Thank God someone is thinking of the children."

Typical kids’ games.

Mind your own business, and stop worrying about nothing.

Leave the poor boy alone.

And put the Batman figure back.

I would be straight up the school. Its definitely not funny and needs to be stopped before someone gets really upset.

TLDR
Thedudesmummy = OP.
The end.

Oh come on, can't you tell a joke when you see one? The replies to the OP contained all kinds of odd stuff, some jokey and some serious. I'm just referencing that, that's all (still school holidays so a little extra time in bed to mess about before I started working!).

Or...do I really know her...?

So in that case it really is weird how much you have this OP’s back! You’ve really stuck by her through thick and thin 😆

Huh?

you’re protecting her reputation

You know this anonymous mumsnetter?

Given that she has now been abducted by aliens, someone has to.

Too late surely if she has been abducted by aliens

It's unlikely that the OP would have enough knowledge of Roblox or any reason to make up such a specific note surely? But anyway...now we will never know...

You’ve really got the OP’s back haven’t you @theDudesmummy ?! 😆

ImGoingUpstairsToTakeOffMyHat · 24/08/2025 19:35

In the reception and year 1 class of my DS’s school one of the kids (who TBH reminds me of Damien from the Omen and is a bully to boot) used to draw people being killed by clowns and put it in his classmates bag so as to blame the other kids in case his mum or teachers spotted it. But apparently it caused a lot of similarly unnerved parents to worry for a while and the kids were telling by the truth when they say they didn’t know what it was

Show the school OP. To me, it sounds like a bit of a creative writing exercise of some sort

Or maybe she saw a UFO and got distracted

Well, she HAS disappeared hasn't she? Wooooooooo! I think the LGM probably got her.

More likely than this “note” ever existing 😆

lotsofpatience · 24/08/2025 18:05

Bloody illuminati. Always messing about with our children.

theDudesmummy · 24/08/2025 17:57

Might well have been, if he is a Roblox player. How do you know he isn't? What do you mean by "grow up"?

Puckles · 24/08/2025 17:40

GROW UP. The note was obviously nit for you or your kid.
